CraigHack for Mod??
I dont think so!!!
I think being a Mod would just about ruin my life.
I dont have the talent, energy, patience, time or inclination. Or votes for that matter
Being a Mod, IMHO, is probably the crappiest job on the planet. The pay sucks! You have to take sh!t from everyone who has had a bad day at work or their parents / friends / loved one has just treated them like a pile of steaming doggie doo. Their car quit running in the middle of a hot intersection maybe... they are waiting for a medical test that just possibly could be bad... They have been awake studying for that final exam that will decide their entire lifes future. They are gonna be here, and they are gonna be looking for trouble!!!!
When I say they... I mean we of course. We are the enemy.
I DO enjoy it more when I have a good day and I can just watch the antics of those who have not had a good day.
I just figure its my turn.
Wit, sarcasm, dry humor, pettyness, meanness, stupidity, role playing, noobyness, brilliance and room temperature IQ's all belong here just like anywhere else in the world.
The internet has brought us together for the first time in history!! I play games with real live people on all continents!!! (Uhhhhh Iceland? Maybe not). I have found that I like a lot of these people and I firmly believe that the internet may help to prevent future, major, world conflict. Much as I believe that a world currency would do the same.
But all those people are here and some of them have had a real p!sser of a day! Mods have to deal with that and I dont want to.
If you want to be a Mod and you want to do a good job....
Good for you. I hope it works out for you.
If you have had a couple of bad days a want to be a Mod for the power trip... I hope you will reconsider. It will not be good for you and more importantly... for us.
____________
The Gods have brought us together... I can't imagine why.

With the risk of becoming tiresome
I will allow myself to post something I wrote for another board. One of the kids was wondering what was going on in the mods' board. I couldn't help scratching my itch and this was my reply (note that I didn't change it, it's as I have posted it):
You don't really want to know [what goes on in the mod squad]. From all my experience on boards as a cop’s right hand and an admin, I can tell you it's the *most* boring stuff you can imagine. Discussing people's behaviour when it gets nasty, what to do when someone breaches the rules, how to counteract the new wave of spam, lots of IPs, new information for bugs and things to be fixed. Imagine it this way: you're a cop and you're having your monthly report to your boss. Enjoyable, huh?
And trust me, no reasonable man wants to be a mod. There are 3 types of mods: the cop, the janitor and the hostess.
The hostess is the most pleasant but unfortunately the rarest profession for a mod. You're just the ordinary poster who knows a lot about the board, directs, vivisects and circulates the board. Are nice to everyone get a lot of warm feelings in return. Newbies would ask them a lot of questions and will get replied. Bad thing is they can be underestimated and meek. The type to meet usually on closed and/or restricted boards. Best exaple is EZ that get up to 400 posters registered.
The janitor is the next step. With the occasional and not-so-occasional spam and the street fights they have to clean up, they are nice people who remind themselves now and then that the world is as nasty place as the people in it. Occasionally has to act as a judge and show the whip - without having to use it. Moderates middle boards with elders who have their elite circles and newbies trying to rebel and get in their way. (BBs with up to 5,000 members are best examples)
The cop is the professional moderator. No one with a little brain really wants to be the cop. I've been a cop's right hand and trust me, it's a LOT of stress. The cops would every day have to deal with spammers, trolls, tricks, pranks, offense, explicit violation of rules. If we imagine the janitor as a lawyer on minor offense cases, the cop is the the supreme judge for first degree murder. You have to *love* the board and be dedicated to it to death to agree to be a cop for longer than a month. The cops moderate huge, famous boards with thousands of posts per day.
You think being rised to the mod position is an honor? Think again. Apart from certain elders that respect you and from occasional newbies intimidated by you, no one gives you credit or understanding or help. You get no reward, no compassion, no salary. You think you have high powers? BS. You *can* see IPs, you *can* delete posts, you *can* ban but can you do it, use it on people you don't like? Well, NO. If you do that, you're going to lose the little reputation you have and be stripped of mod powers.
Are you sure you still want access to mod board? *grin*
