You know, one *could* run into trouble attacking under certain circumstances ...
Let's see. Siege combat, creatures standing clear of the walls. If someone didn't realise that they had to beat down the gate and walk through it, they'd be pretty confused.
Attempting to attack a town without a hero in the army. You can't take over the town under those circumstances. Hire a hero from the tavern and add it to your army, and you'll be fine.
Hero frozen in position. A few maps have this - the last Elwin map, and a few user-made standalones. No error message, so it can be quite confusing.
Army not selected. This is a novice mistake, almost on a par with the 'Just click on them' omission - the person making this mistake probably hasn't played through the tutorial!

Often serious, yes - :-) It's Ok, I do laugh sometimes!
Q) How do you attack?
A1) In force.
A2) I wait while enemy shooters deal half-damage, then send in the vampires to eat them for breakfast.
A3) I write down my opponent's address, pick up the phone book, go for a long drive, and hit them over the head.
A4) I don't. I'm a confirmed pacifist.

Levitate and kick them, or use a voodoo doll for a much less painful and fun (???) way? Watch out if you have nuts though.

(I know The Matrix did it first. There's at least one H4 hero that does that, though; I think it's the sorceress.)

:-) Now that'd be a cute thing to see in the expansion pack. A hero that attacks (or performs range attacks) by pulling out a doll and sticking pins into it.

why?
why do you do this to me?
before now, i was happily playing the elwin campaign,
and now i'm plagued by doubt as to what happens to elwin in the last scenario. So he can't be used? Is he stuck in one spot? What happens? PLEEEEEEEZ tell me what happens. Tell me that everything's going to be ok.

:-) Relax, everything's going to be OK.
It's not Elwin that is frozen, but another hero; and that only for either a day or two or til Elwin gets there, I forget which. It's fairly obvious when you release the hero, though I was confused on Day 1 of that scenario.
