If you have the Shadow Town to between Chaos and Death you just move the problem.
Death town should no longer have a Chaos Guild but a Shadow Guild. Chaso town should no longer have a Death guild but a shadow guild.

and as Xenophanes showed us in the 'alignment-star' shadow will be opposed to life!!! Anyways there will be no new town in the expansion only a silly number of four neutral creatures... can't wait yiha!

Actually the star is not how xenophanes' proposed it, if you read underneath the picture...he should have probably included a picture of how he wants it to be to clear things up some.
But yes, if it is this way, it no longer goes life-order-death, it goes life-order-shadow... life is still death's opposite, but Order is no longer balancing life and death and Order isnt allied with Death either...
Also, you will hafto change/add a couple of the ward spells and ward artys... which isnt too hard really...
I dont see how it would affect so many of the maps and gameplay as Djive says... After all, only 1 thing is changing.
To keep the whole life-order-death thing, I propose this -

Its the best of both worlds I think, and also is fair because Might needs some allies, even if it's only 2 to everyone else's 3.

Sure, you can fix it that way too, but you'd need to place an extra library in the towns. But then nature and shadow will be hampered since they only have two libraries. How do you expect to let them benefit from their might-allience?

The star appears just about everywhere and anywhere.
For instance, the Tavern recruitment screen will need to be redone for the new alignment.
You need to add two new Basic Hero classes for the Shadow Town, and of course you need to animate these two new classes (4 animations total). You need new Hero bios for heroes that belong to them.
This will change tactics. In the Order Tavern, you no longer get Necromancers and Death Knights but heroes who start with other skills (the new Shadow Heroes). This will change tactics for both Order and Death faction.
Order has for example not access to Combat or Scouting heroes, but now they will perhaps get it in the expansion but not the base product.
Death stands to lose access to Nobility Hero, and could gain access to Combat.

Well if you do it the way proposed in my pic, death and order don't lose their link. (which i think is the only flaw in xenophanes idea, which by the way i think is a pretty good one just needs some tweaking)
Djive, you are harping(yes, I love using HoMM puns) on the fact that this will require too much work to go into the current expansion. Of course. But remember, they promised 2 Expansions for HoMM4...

Yes, I might be harping but my general feeling on this matter is that a part of the reason they constructed it this way is that they wouldn't even need to bother consider a new town within the pentagram.
Because, it's too much work, changes game-play and so on.
Anyway, keep posting. There's a heroes 5 in progress and ideas are needed for it alo. My wish would be to make the towns more flexible and not so hardly tied to each other as is the case in Heroes 4.
More job:
12 new animations total (4 for heroes, 8 for creatures)
A bunch of new Hero portraits and bios for heroes.
A new magic school full of unique spells.
Playtesting the new town for balance.
Re-testing all towns for balance.
Please compare this with what the expansion pack contains. I'd say this includes a lot more work.

You keep saying that it would require a lot of work, yet you havent ever mentioned this "lot of work" all you've mentioned is the mage guilds and the taverns.

It seems that i have made a mistake with the Shadow Towm.
Although i wished for a Shadow Town as the opposite for Nature i made the mistake of trying to put Shadow in between Death and Chaos. This was wrong because of the alignment structure.
If i had went this way then in the Chaos Town the mage guilds would have been Nature, Chaos and Death. This is wrong because the opposite of Nature and Shadow.
Therefor it should be between Order and Death so the alignment of Shadow and Nature be far apart as shown below:
ORDER
LIFE SHADOW
MIGHT
NATURE DEATH
CHAOS
That way all the alignments are at their opposites.
Not what i envisioned, but it looks right.
It may cause a few hiccups in the system but at least the alignments is right.

You may be better off posting it to ThE_HyDrA's alignment thread in Lands of Axeoth.
I posted something similar there. Why have alignmetns at all, it seems impossible to make everyone happy using them? So I suggested just to have colours, one colour associated to each town type.
The colours then have a penalty to mixing.

You can assign them any way you like.
To take a Heroes 4 example. In heroes 4 "blue" spells are the spells that are native to the Academy town.

ie the blue spells would = Order
So were are back to square one about the alignments, unless you mean keep the colurs associated to the spells and the title and knock out the alignments altogether.
So each castle would have a colour to indicate the title of the spells being used
Right?

That's the point. You don't assign an alignment related name to the colour. You just make a connection between the name of the town and the colour.

Shadow Magic is the darker side of Nature Magic.
It would deal with the opposite of nature. All creatures that are mutated or genetically altered. That waould be classed as an abhorence to nature.
Magic that warps and twisted the fabric of Nature.
