Expansion Pack News
From today's GameSpot:
Heroes IV expansion unveiled
3DO will release an add-on for Heroes of Might and Magic IV, its popular turn-based strategy game, later this year.
The 3DO Company has confirmed that it will release an expansion pack for Heroes of Might and Magic IV, its popular turn-based strategy game, later this year. The expansion will be titled Heroes of Might and Magic IV: The Gathering Storm, and it will include new maps, campaigns, creatures, artifacts, and other new features.
The expansion, which is scheduled for release in the third quarter of 2002, will feature more than 20 new single-player maps, six new campaigns, and four new creatures. In addition, it will contain 18 new artifacts, new campaign editor features, new heroes, and a new music track. The expansion will also include the Heroes of Might and Magic IV multiplayer update.
Heroes of Might and Magic IV was developed by New World Computing, the studio that created the previous games in the series, and released in April. The game features a number of improvements on its predecessors, including better graphics, a new combat system, changes to the technology tree, and other new features. For more information, take a look at our full review of the game. We'll post more information about the upcoming expansion as it becomes available.

Argh!
It's what we feared... the multiplayer patch is really an expansion. Well, in case you need me I'll be hiding heroes4 somewhere dark and dusty until they release that damn expansion.

I refuse to PAY for the Multi when they promised it FREE!
When I spent my money for the GAME they promised that my 40$ would include a free multiplayer update. Now that they get my money they want to get MORE money from me just to have a full finished game that I was supposed to get with my initial purchace?????????? NOWAY!
I agree with Andi. Anyone who gives in to 3do's trickery and pays them more money is a FOOL!

well, if this is all they promise to put in the expansion, it looks to me that all this should have been in the original version. They just want to complete their original product and they also want us to give them our money... b a s t a r d s

Hmm ...
Including HOMM4 online play *only* in the expansion is a bit rich even for 3D0. In the event that they do not make online play available any earlier than the expansion's release (and we're already *in* the 3rd quarter of 2002!) I believe they would release a patch for the basic game that includes online play. They certainly have a habit of releasing patches for earlier versions of the game at the same time they release new versions of the game (or patches thereunto). (Remember combination artifacts turning up in RoE and AB patches!)

WTF it said that multiplayer would be patched into the game in a few weeks on my gamebox, now I have to pay for something that the game was promised to have??? snow that. Aren't they breaking some law?? Selling something without giving it to us?? I bought heroes4 to play online. I hardly ever play single player games anymore unless it says Final Fantasy *random number*...

4 new creatures
4 New creatures means no new towns, which I anticipated since it's hard to add new towns without breaking the balance of the alignment circle and it would also lead to a lot more new skills and advanced classes.
If I were to speculate where the new units fit in, they might not be buildable in town, like the crystal and fairy dragons in HOMM3 AB.
About multiplayer.. they can still release it free in a patch for people who don't buy the expansion.. I don't believe they said it would only be available in the upcoming expansion.
It doesn't bother me though, I've got a ton of other games to keep me busy already.

I paid 80 bucks for a goddam beta released half a year behind schedule with the promise of free "soon to be released" multiplayer and now those tight f***s at 3do expect us to fork out another load of cash for something we should have got when we bought the game. this is bullsh*t.

I might have believed that a year ago but now, i'm not so sure about trusting 3do. after all, they originally said that h4 was due to be released in the forth quarter of 2001 and that didn't happen.

And that's what they call "expansion"?
Oh, C'mon! This is turning ridiculous! Where the hell is the interest of this PATCH (I refuse to call it expansion)?
1.- Maps? Campaigns? Any amateur (or should I say "professional"?) map would be far better. I only hope any mapmakers will take the necessary effort to develop them for free and save the game lifetime.
2.- Multiplayer? A free multiplayer patch shouldn't be an option. We PAYED for it long time ago. Hotseat is enough for me, but I recognize a lot of fans like multiplayer and restricting it to the expansion is an act of robbery.
3.- New Heroes? Psst. A bunch a new faces (as ugly as the precedent ones. I can't believe what they have done to my dear Sandro) doesn't seem very attractive. Without the hero specialty, all heroes in the same class are the same.
4.- Four new creatures? FOUR? Four creatures that surely are right now in the game hidden with some internal flags?
Well, I was expecting this kind of expansion, but the deception has been even greater than expected. Even if the new creatures where NWC Commercials you could bash on with your dragons, the expansion will be worthless. Worthless to buy, and even worthless to burn.

I think 3do is pushing their luck, I mean in all fairness which ves wouldn't be willing to do no doubt =p is to move this whole community to age of wonders II which is btw a kick ass game But omg, if that stupid expansion is more than 20$ ain't no way i'm buying it, i'd also suggest that ves no put that patch in toh and all the other leagues etc... Because omg 3do!!! YOU BASTARDS!
They did promise multi, I wanted to play it online so bad too........ Just like my other disappointments (Black & White too much town business) and (AvP2, snowing god damn alien is too slow!) I always find myself staring that the cold battle.net of StarCraft Brood Wars, BLIZZARD HAS A PURPOSE , STARCRAFT SEQUEL!

Since you like homm I'm guessing you like fantasy creatures too, which war3 has tons of in gorgous 3d grapics.
I've never seen a rts look this good. War3 with all graphic options set to their highest is a sight to see...

pffft, sc totally owns wc3, you can't mine worth snow in that game, several heroes are far too powerfull, and what in gods name is with the supply? How does it expect me to kill somebody with 90 max supply , grunt units costing 2 supply?!?! I WANT AN ARMY OF snowIN HYDRAS!!! IS THAT SO HARD TO ASK!! AHHHHH ,
