nothing overpowering about it. in most cases theres no point in using it anyway
Using Town Gate from the battlefield allows a player to implement hit and run tactics against an opposing army with virtually no risk (especially if the hero has immortality potions).
In addition, if you create illusions and then use Town Gate, the illusions stay behind and continue fighting. I just do not think that was how Town Gate was intended to be used.
IMO the spell should only be used on the adventure map and then should only transport the army to the "nearest" town.

This thread was conceived about a year ago, so I have no idea what you're flaming at. Secondly, please do not post things about cracks and hacks. Consult the faq if you have questions about the code of conduct. Thanks!

Town Gate ...

Yeah, well guess what - it's NOT disallowed! So therefore it follows, that using Town Gate in a battle you cannot possibly win, was intended to be part of the strategy of the game. Don't forget the old adage - "All's fair in love & war." Especially during a Heroes battle.

Your logic would seem infallible; If it's allowed then it must be alright.
However the patches so far released have rectified many anomolous effects that were not forseen or intended by the developers.
Town Gate is a spell that is open to abuse. A "resourceful" player may actually choose which town the army gets transported to which is totally contrary to the spell description. If a hero is in combat they can create illusions and then Town Gate out and the illusions remain fighting.
All's fair in love and war but when playing games do the right thing.

Town Gate Strategy ...

In this case, the right thing is to do what is necessary to save as many lives (even if they are only Pixel Lives) as possible.

I completely DISAGREE!! If by chance, your hero/heroine has Diplomacy or Charm - go up to a stack of desirable creatures, have a percentage of them join your army, then Town Gate out of battle so you can later go up to them again & have some more of their members join your army.
I'll bet in your so called "hypocritical-purist" form of Heroes IV, this also would also be disallowed. Hey, why don't you do away, altogether, with all spells & artifacts. Make the game NO FUN AT ALL!
I am sooooooo tired of people, who think they are so great at playing, that they would forbid any & all forms of strategy which may make a player have any sort of advantage or FUN.
If you don't like Town Gate, well then, don't use it. For me and my armies, we like the option of using this great spell!

Town gate is good
Town gate is very useful in XL maps, when you can travel to the towns very fast and don't need to walk all week. The other good thing about town gate is that you can always create iliusions or phantom images and then town gate out of the combat. The iliusions still play in the game (and someteimes even win ). I misss the thing that was in homm3- you can't town gate to any town, just to the nearest one. Also, if you want to retreat or surrender, there's no need if you have town gate. You don't lose all your creatures or gold. And no shacles of war can stop you .
There is just a few facts why town gate is useful.

Loved your flame, it was a real beauty but I should point out that the words you have attributed to me actually came from a post by EmperorSly.

I stand corrected on who quoted the above quote, nonetheless, my post wasn't meant to "flame" anyone. I'm just really weary of people telling other players what should be or not be allowed & how they should or shouldn't play their own game. And how or what a "resourceful" player is, in your opinion.

Quote: And how or what a "resourceful" player is, in your opinion.
I was refering to the player who knows how to use the Town Gate spell to send any hero/army to ANY town of their choosing, at any time.
The spell description states that the hero/army is sent to the "nearest" town. However, it is possible for a "resourceful" player to "block" towns and in this way circumvent the proper workings of the spell.
IMO if my opponent intended using Town Gate in this way I would want to know about it before the match starts.
I'm not telling anyone else how to play but if you are playing against other people then it is only fair that both players agree on the rules of engagement.
