Bah its a toss, you never would be able to make any tactic calls in battle because the whole screen would be loaded with creatures lol.
Nah you play your toss "kill em all" some other place, heroes is a strategy game

I actually thought of something like this once. Just think about how the battles would look. LOL
I assume "Zog" is the hero?

With this view, there are quite a few problems:
1.Spells: Now, it's hard to see how stuff like Fireball or Chain Lightning will affect things.
2.Hex Grid: Will that just have to be dropped? It seems difficult to implement...
3.Attacking: How do the creatures attack? do they just keep taking turns, or what? And how do they die?

I can imagine it. It would look really cool. Ever played the Might and Magic series?
2.Hex Grid: Will that just have to be dropped? It seems difficult to implement...
That would be difficult. The creators would probably make a solution.
3.Attacking: How do the creatures attack? do they just keep taking turns, or what? And how do they die?
could still be turnbased. They would attack like they normally do. They would die as they normally would. But say you have 10 Archangels. The hero casts imposion and kill 5 Archangels. You watch 5 Archangels die and 5 are still standing.

Quote: 3.Attacking: How do the creatures attack? do they just keep taking turns, or what? And how do they die?
Actually, this is the strongest part of such a system. The attacks of the army would not be calculated, all of them will attack at once using a basic AI (attack, dodge, block) and each individual creature has life. When you tell two armies (like cyclopes vs. paladins) to fight, they do it in real time using their own AI's, but the overall battle is still turn based. Much more realistic.

Oddly enough, I like the old one better. Not out of nostalgia or whatever, but how do you fit the massive hordes you see in campaigns and custom maps? Fighting 5k nagas on there? Uh-uh!

I don't like it. It is starting to look like shogun or praetorians and that i certainly don't wanna see in a TBS that has a spell system working with stacks of creatures.
