Cool! I've been testing Vamps against Black Dragons once.
Turns out 5 vamps can kill 1 black dragon, 50 vamps always beat 10 black dragons, 500 vamps don't have the slightest difficulty beating 100 black dragons, and even suffer minor losses. Once their attack+retaliation becomes equal or greater than the amount of damage they receive from the dragons, the dragons lose. It's amazing to see. Vamps are especially strong in numbers, it's a cumulative figure. When you then take into account that it's so easy to get big numbers of vampires...

More info about vampires.
With 1 zombie (and it appears to happen with 1 sprite too) you can kill as many zombies (maybe skeletons, dwarves, mummies and even gold golems too!) you like to kill if they are in one stack, there is no one else and the got no movement bonuses on the terrain and it isn't a siege/bridge combat. It can also debend on the obstacles aswell. You just wait, attack, run, wait, attack, run... with the no retallion and high speed and movement you can kill for example 10,000 zombies with only 1 sprite.
P.S. I have tested this for vampire<->zombies in a accident where my vampire stack was attacked by a wandering army of zombies. I haven't tested the other creatures, but I think they work as well.

This is a technique that works quite well even against multiple stacks of slow creatures. If you keep all of your other creatures out of the way, you can just keep flying from side to side and the zombies will follow, but never reach you. If you get the zombies close enough to your other stacks, then they might start going for them instead of your flyer though.

yeah - I tested a month ago that hit & run strategy - it really works (of course with no retaliation)

But,hit & run can be risky! When enemy has good morale it's impossible to win like that!

Creature comparison
Your tests are really interesting, Klauts. I would, however, not put too much faith in them. They may give an indication of which unit is better, but I can easily think of 10 factors that make comparing creatures these way not very valid. I do think that you will find this thread very interesting (I did):

Letting creatures fight this way can show really interesting things, but I can think of better ways to compare them. Thanx anyway for the time you spent on it.

Sometimes you can indeed exploit the hydra's specialties and sometimes you can't. I think that (almost) all creature specialties are dependent on situational factors. For example: Phoenixes beat Black dragons with their fire resistance. Black dragons beat faeries with their magic resistance. Faeries beat Hydra's since they have time to cst spells. Hydra's beat....and so on (I guess...). I'd rather compare units differently.

Not bad!
I've recently tried combats of all 1st level creatures. so the centaurs and the bersercers were the strongest, and peasants and imps- the weakest

hello
I think Klauts that the test you did shows nothing it was the waste of time it's only my opinion but the time you spent on doing the test you would better spend with friends and beer and homm4 on hot seat )) and fairy dragon wins with phoenix which has protection from fire but it doesn't protect from lightning which is fire spell strange ?!?!

Just for the record Cabot .. Lightning is a CHAOS spell.. no longer "fire magic"..
So it makes perfect sense that the phoenix is affected..

Ummm wolfman..
Have you played H4 yet??
Any hero as far as I know can use any of the magics.. providing he has the required skills..
And here we were discussing Faerie Dragons I beleive which DO infact come from the Nature town, and DO infact cast the CHAOS spell lightning bolt, among others..
Try it, maybe you'll be surprised LOL
