Defeated Castles
I think that after a castle is defeated (or saved) that the castle would not automaticly be fixed (if it's damaged)and that the victor should have to fix the walls over time, maybe there would be a secondary skill for fixing castle walls. Meanwhile, that castle would be vonerable

I agree
Castles that are fixed instantly have always looked unrealistic to me (and yes, I know this is a fantasy game!), and I feel this feature would be rather easy to implement in the game. This would make secondary heroes more useful, since they could be used in kamizake demolition teams, and gameplay more intense.

Maybe you just should losse your caste, citadel or fort when you caste has been damaged...Then you could built it again...

Maybe......
That's an okay idea, but I still would rather have them fix it. Maybe if it got damaged enough the castle would get downgraded.

After I've seen the screenshots of Heroes 4...
Maybe it should be possible to also attack buildings (small defense points for less important/expensive buildings)inside the village/city/capitol, so the defending player has to build them again.

buildings
When catapult has nothing to shoot anymore it starts shooting buildings in town (like previously said). after conquering a castle you look in building list (ooh wats that?) oh its a castle wall picture (homm2 castle fortifications) oh theres another one (turret) you spend a couple of days repairing it and some money say 1000$ walls 2000$ turrets or whatever amout seems resonable (ore needed).
Well Think aout it

Agree (the damaging building idea.)
Then a new tactic may arise:
Yep, I would lose the castle anyway, but I would let the battle continue for more turns so that your stupid ballista will demolish everything and leave you a empty town. Or maybe I would cast earthquake myself.....hehehe..
(had Russian used this in WWII vs German ?)

My guess is that you can't destroy the walls at all anymore.
War Machines appears to gone and with them the Catapult.
Indications are that you have to climb the walls instead of destroying them. The arrow towers will not shoot at the enemy but will enhance the damage your archers do.
And it seems as if the defenders will now be standing on the battlements (=walls), where they get a bonus because they have an advantageous position.
This is probably a good thing. The notion that the attackers would be able to destroy the walls at all was anyway a bit unreasonable.
Another thing that speaks for this is that the Cyclops no longer has an "Attack Wall" special ability but an "shooter area attack" special.
So the only way to tear down the walls that remains is Eartquake. I wonder if this spell will remain and in that case what effect it will have.

I am in favor of damaging the walls... during siege the attacker always tried to breech them so he could pour in troops... you should be able in the game to fortify your walls against that. When a town (fort, let'say) is not upgraded it could have wodden walls that could be set on fire, while castles would have stone walls, and only the catapult could bring it down.

Thats a good Idea . This could bring up say undermining a wall as either a hero secondary skill, or a creature ability. Also I think that you should be able to buy extra defenses for your wall (more arrow towers, possibly a place that would allow you to buy more creatures during combat if you had them in your castle, other things) The strongest type of castle maybe could not be affected by catapults either.
