What creatures do you choose in Haven?
I choose balistae, monks and angels. I don't like champions or crusaders. Pikeman are also nice.

Giving this thread another life.
When I play Haven I usually build along this line up:
- Pikemen: The ballistae just slow my army down too much to be useful to me. Pikemen's first strike and long range pretty much works like no enemy retaliation, and their negate first strike also comes in handy sometimes. Overall, they're reasonably good creatures.
- Though I would rather take Crusaders (sending them forward after martyring another unit, hehehe) because of their vicious double strike, I tend to appreciate Monks a little bit more. One of the strengths of the Haven is their ranged potential, (Monks deal heavy damage and their Death ward is also a nice) it would be a shame to waste that. But this choice is dependant on the situation.
- Is there really a choice at level 4? Champions stink, I have no idea other than resource problems why anyone would ever want to go for champions. They're even no match for a number of level 3 creatures. Angels all the way here. They're fast, fly and raise units or heroes. This is one of the easiest choices in the game.

Ditto. Two heroes, squires, crossbowmen, pikemen, monks and angels. Squires are mostly for defensive purposes, unless of course I get nature magic and cast snake strike. But the ranged forces are incredible.

I normally choose these when I play Haven.
Level 2: Pikemen - because of their faster speed and that their long weapon makes them virtually a no-retalliation unit. Their negate first strike ability is also useful.
Level 3: Monks - a second shooter is nice. Plus Death Ward is good against undead.
Level 4: Champions - first strike and charge ability is useful, plus their big growth rate (4/week) compared to angels (2/week) means that you can get a big army pretty shortly.
There.

And if you have a lord with GM Nobility you'll get them even more than most (all?) level 3s! That first strike for a level 4 creature very good! And weren't them easier to get? What did they need again (buildings/resources)?
And I usually choose the pikemen and monks because the ballistas are so slow and a haven army need all the possible creatures (while as Death player, you can roam with vampires/heroes only and as Order player with genies/heroes only).

What's the problem with Haven? They have very good defensive spells. Defender, for example, is a killer.

I always choose fastmoving ones, so ballistae is down...
Then, crusader is just too slow. They often got stuck. so monk is better.
Then, I like angel better...champions sometimes get stuck in bushes, and became useless. And there isn't always space for them to use charge. (unless use speed or fly, but they are not life magic) So, flying angel is better.

As for crusader versus monk, I always chose crusader. But while doing the Lysander campaign, I was amazed at the damage that monks can deal. And they are ranged, so I think next time I play Haven, I'll take them.

I usuall pick Pikemen, Monks, and then Angels. Is it just me or does anyone else think that angels should have got Death Ward as one of there built ins. I mean those Devils have Teleport and Life Ward.

death ward on the angels would make the spell mass death ward almost obsolete. and if you take them away from the lvl 3's they won't last against death.
so i say, keep it the way it is, it makes death ward more powerfull anyway.

crossbowmen, ballistae, and crusaders. and probably champions.
angels are cool for scouting and taking out neutrals, but often there is not much neutrals left by the time angels become affordable. the only problem with champions is that unlike angels, they cannot get to the enemy side in one turn. but i wouldnt want that happening anyway -- the enemy side is not a comfy place to be in. with all this ranged support, i'd better wait for my opponent to come. and thats where champions start hitting hard, and crusaders start hitting twice.
monks should be left to praying. with crossbows and ballistics there is enough range (without longrange penalty!)already, and unlike monks, crusaders just cut though the enemy. especially so if you have the teleport to feed them with hostile rangers. with order being a friend of life, theres a fair chance of that happening.
