Found 2 Multiplayer crash bugs. Beware.

I've been playing a lot of H4 multiplayer with a friend of mine at my house over a LAN connection.  Consequently, I've found 2 reproduceable crash bugs which people should avoid until 3d0 can patch the game (ha ha!).

The first one involves the stealth skill.  If you use stealth with your hero to avoid and gain experience from the monsters that show up because of 'month of the X', it will cause the 'waiting for remote player' message to appear on your opponents screen (which never goes away).

The second bug happens when two humans face off in combat.  If anyone hits the 'auto combat' button, the game will lock up.

Just thought I would let people know.

stealth bug

i had it too. only not with monthly creatures only. whenever i ended in yellow area it would lock up in about week 3. the other players got the waiting for remote player message, and after they left i suddenly gained a lvl (even though it wasn't even my turn!!!).
so no thiefs for me yet...

Umm because a small scouting force met up with a larger army and was going to die anyway?

One more thing to add to the list, if two human controlled armies consisting only of berserkers meet up, it will cause the same crash because they're effectively in auto combat mode because you can't control them.  (Someone at 3d0's heroes board told me this one).

Bad programming and poor quality control?  It probably crashes because some aspect of the multiplayer code relies on the person whose turn it is entering a command for their army.  If you use autocombat or have a berserker, you can't enter a command and it crashes.

Thanks for clearing up what the reason for the "waiting for remote player" bug, it happened to me the other night and was most curious.

Another "bug" i've been noticing which is far from serious is where sometimes my movement arrows will become all yellow, even if i'm in the clear. It doesn't matter, but it is something i've only noticed in multiplayer, so something's going on. It happens occasionally, but I can't consistantly repeat it. I think I'll have a CH potd of it soon, it's quite odd...

There is some kind of problem involving Berserkers for sure.

Example:
Assume I have a lone Berserker as a scout near an enemies castle. If the human player sends out some kind of Barbarian type unaccompanied troops to kill him, it WILL crash the game.
(It MAY be connected with who has first turn and Berserkers auto combat.)

If the Human player sends out a hero with or without troops to attack him it WILL crash the game.

If the Berserkers' Human owner is asked, "You are in trouble. do you want to surrender"? (Or something)

If you say yes, (Holding Artifact maybe). It will message you that your envoy is discussing surrender. The sign remains on screen, you lock up....

(You can hear your opponent sending messages that you cant see or reply to and you know he is wondering what the hell is going on.)

I refer to it as the "Unaccompanied Berserker bug"

2 experiences that i have had...

1) in a multi game after winning a battle, my game disappeared from the screen (much like sod used to vanish)

2) in a game with rychen we lost connection, and both exited the game when the message appeared. when i attempted to reload my autosave it was fine from my position, but from rychen's it was as though he had actually dropped 3-4 days previous and the computer had played those turns for him.  when we attempted to load his autosave, it was the same situation but reverse, from his position was fine  - but from mine it was as though comp had played for 3-4 days for me.

I don't understand how this happened, as we had been chatting throughout those days - so it can't be that the disconnection occured earlier...

Anyways, i can't offer any insight as to what may have happened or why, but this happened, lol
