Ents
With the release of The Two Towers crawling forward. Why couldn't it be here for me to see now! I was wondering if anyone else was as anxious/nervous to see what Peter Jackson does with the ents. On one hand I can't wait to see what the ents look like as they are my absolute favorite creatures from the Lord of the Rings. On the other hand, I am almost certain that the movie version of them will not live up to my expectations or images that I have had floating around in my head since childhood.

I think they will look kinda like those dendroid guards (or whatever you call them) in the rampart of H3.

Well one thing I do know is whenever you have these great expectations for something, they always fail your wishes. The guy I'm sure will do his best, but remember every great fan of LOTR will have his idea of an ent and PJ cannot possibly manage to please us all

I understand that, which is one of the reasons I thought the first movie was so good (low expectations of meeting my images). It's one of those irrational moments where I managed to accept and enjoy the first one, but now that it comes to my favorite part of the story I can't help, but be nervous and feel protective of my image of the ents. And dag nabbit, why do I have to wait so long to find out. You'd think I would've outgrown this with all the times I've managed to patiently wait for long expected games or movies, but it's driving me nuts!

Well, yeah, I'm nervous. He'll probably leave them out all togheter to make more room for the succubus Liv Tyler and her ridiculously beefed up part.
I've even heard rumors that she will be leading her own army (yes, dad, I know, but Aragorn's there, and I'm practically the only girl in the world, puh-leeze let me go?? -Yeah, right!) in the battle of "oops-don't-know-what-it's-called-in-the-original-language". Can someone confirm or deny this?! If this is correct, that would be a nice opportunity for PJ and his infidel subjects to just replace the ent army with his new and improved elfgirl army! Yippi! (OK, for those of you who are about to reply angrily and say: How can you think it's good that the ents will be left out?!, this post has contained, yes, sarcasm *gasp*)
Think about it, it's not really that unlikely, I mean he already took out Tom Bombadil and Glorfindel, a couple of trees shouldn't present that much of a moral dilemma, we're earning money here, remember, not honoring the greatest writer who ever lived (no quote replies! Sarcasm again!).
Watch well

he probrably becomes mental or absolutely retard and next thing you know the whole movie over emphasizes on six legged insects that weren't supposed to be misinterpreted that way. No matter, i think Lord of the rings should feature the blue car in the background again (did any one catch that in the last one?) Don't expect tooo much... books are books. I didn't think Orcs look so...... nevermind. Disappointing indeed. Thot they looked more on the green side with axe and armor. (Been playing too much warcraft i suppose)

I agree with you that the replacement of Glorfindel with Liv Tyler was ridiculous. It left out the explanation of what is special about the older elves that came from over the sea, and the fear they caused in the wraiths. However, as much as I like Tom Bombadil, I believe PJ appropriately left him out. Tom Bombadil is important in the greater mythology of Middle Earth, but he doesn't play a significant role in furthering the story of the ring. It was already an extremely long movie and if one is to cut it down to size without jeapordizing the actual plot for those who are not familiar with the books, Tom Bombadil is the most logical part to cut.

have to agree with johnsone...
as much as I liked Tom, he is a bit ...out of the loop as far as the Rings of Power are concerned...
about Arwen's beefed up role however, I can't say I like it.. let's hope Fangorn stays and they don't keep the story too simple just to keep uninitiated viewers happy...

Lith I geuss this holds true for many people who are addicts to the book. I myself have only read the books once, and I didn't notice much wrong with the film, but my m8 who's read it like 8 or 9 times, he could quote chapter and verse about the mistakes! To the unaquainted the films will be a good portrayal, to the vetrans they kinda suck in some ways. PJ had to make it accesible to the non-readers and yet accurate given the time. If he leaves things out or alters them then I geuss it's down to balancing the 2

As far as I know, the ents are still remaining as an army in the movie. There was an interview at theonering.net about how the director shouted "Okay, now keep low (or something like that) because there will be hundreds of trees moving behind you"
So I believe that Arwen is not going to get to lead an army. And personally, I really don't care so much about "she's not in the book, she's not an elder elf, she's a horrible actor" and all that crap.... it worked fine in the first movie, and will work in the second and third. Because it has to, and I trust PJ enough to do that.

I disagree, Darion, it worked fine in the first movie because it was a part of the plot that was cut from the original book because it was not interesting enough or not relevant. It's still something that Tolkien wrote. Now if they put Arwen in the second movie that would just be wrong because they would have to change the plot.

Yeah, I know, I was just trying to make a point out of that she-devil Liv Tyler. Still, I would gladly have sat through another hour of film to see him. He's just so... swell.
And IYY, sorry to say, but Tolkien did not write
"Oh, and by the way, if there ever is to be made a motion picture out of my little trilogy, please have the makers replace that drunken sod Glorfindel with a completely talentless actress in the role of Arwen, and give her some knock-out lines like 'You want him? Then come and claim him!', and please make sure she speaks elven so poorly that my devoted fans will heave in their seats, and also include a mushy scene with Arwen and Aragorn, and make Arwen cry alot, even though elves don't cry. Who cares?"
So don't bet PJ won't go all crazy with Two Towers either.
Shoot well

ENTS?? WHERE???
Ents are cool.
Cuz they're like.....trees.
That walk and talk.
Well, just because u made me think of that beast, Merry, I am going to quote one of his lines about ents....because I basically memorized the two towers and no one can make me shut my trap.
Merry: Do you remember the old forest, at the borders of Buckland? Folks used to say there is something in the water that made the trees come alive.
Pippin: alive?
Merry: Trees that could whisper, talk to each other, even move.
Okay, I'm done with my little Lord of the Rings faze. I'll stop for humanity sakes.
(Ps. Ha ha ha......ha?)

I think that was one of the most annoying things in the film! While he battle in which all those elved, humans and orcs were fighting...we have some images of some ents that walk and talk so slowly...I was dispered... I wanted to see all that fine action in which legolas and his buddies were shooting arrows like sharpshooters...But nooooooooo! There comes the happy ent walking around asking himself: " Should I fight, should I not..."
