Are u allowed to run away in TOH Games

I was playing this guy and we fought his main army vs. mine, i was beating him and then he decides to run away because he had no chance of beating me,  he did this twice, even though he was winning in towns and resources obviously my army was better.  This tactic delayed the game for hours and if a battle could occur he would back out and run away.  this was very frustrating so i left, is there a rule on this because if not there should be.  This is absolutely ridicoulous because we could of played for weeks until a winner.  Would like your opinions thank you for your time

Hi, Ofcourse its allowed, maybe he/she didn't have their full army or a particular skill level they would have liked (Example: Advanced Earth Magic for True Ressurect) also theres many other different reasons.

Also u state that this person had many more castles than you, maybe he/she was wearing you down for his other army he/she build from another castle

The person he is referring to is me. I was winning everywhere on the map. I usually had 3-4 castles to his 1-2. (dog days) In addiaion I had almost all the gold mines. Given time I see this as a certain victory. Instead of him trying to force me into combat by taking something I could not allow he stayed basically in his start area.

To get me into combat he started calling me names. Called me a pussy and others. He tormented me with this for about 45 min until I could take it no longer. I gave him battle and lost (I kept my heros ). I thought this would shut him up but it did not, he only increased in his torment hoping that I would again foolishly give him another battle he could win.

I slowly again built up my forces. I had armies on every side of his. I would retreat in front of him and claim everything when he left the area. I was able to maintain 95% ownership of the map in this way. I believe anyone would be able to see that this is an easy victory for me. He kept playing and kept up the name calling.

Finally when I had assembled enough men to easly crush Him. he droped out of the game and called me a bad sport. I brought the discussion to the gamespy forum so everyone could see. He later said he would give me a win but I believe his only reason to do this would be to try to trash my honor.

full of u know what

What he fails to tell u that it was close when he first lost the battle, he wasnt overwhelming anybody he had 2 towns to my 1 i was in the process of getting another town, i came back and beat him, if he had not run away i would have won but he continued to do so, thus delaying the game, i am not trying to hurt his honor just wondering if u can run back to your castle with your hero even though your going to lose the battle thats it!  I only started swearing after he ran away!

Unfortunately that tactic is allowed.  One thing to keep in mind though no matter how overwhelming you think you army is you are never 100% guaranteed to win unless you do win.

The running tactic has it's good points, you certainly cant expect him to stand there and get killed if he has other `plans' that you are not aware of.

Running just to run and delay the end of the game, well that is just lame.  If that happens, simply do not play that player again, simple as that.

it's your job to go kill ur opponent, if he's running then go catch him! i don't believe you should expect players to conced the game just because you may have a stronger army or may have won an earlier battle, don't think this is the way to play.

i been caught out of position or had to flee my opponet and lost main town, but have ran round country side, hit as many topia's as i could, then returned and won!

running?

as ironmlh and others point out,you in the end ran from the actual game...whereas your opponent, whether or not this is the case, may have been strategically retreating...

anyways,my real reason for posting here is this:

if you have problems with opponent do not discuss them here, but with the honor council...

this is not the place for dirty laundry...

lets try and make zud's job easier and keep this stuff off the board, joel or paperhero, email chairman of h4 if you still have issues, that is who will really decide what is right or wrong...

but in my experience as an h3 player and now h3 honor council member, these things shouldnt be aired out here .

I have to say that yes sometimes running is cheap.  But in the game you were playing if he did have all those resources and Gold mines then it was because he was just regrouping, not just trying too drag out the game.  What you should have done is whenever you managed to take one of his towns get a hero to take all those mines for your side.  Then when he starts to come back for them you will know where he is and the basic size of his army.  You also should maybe have been building up another army to help out, either too reinforce your main or just a second to keep him on the run too corner him.  Then his running wouldn't matter that much.

You just need to think sometimes of appropriate counters to your opponents tactics.

joe made a wrong tactical choice by the sounds of it. if he used his superior army/hero in a more agressive way he could take over more of map and force his opponent into a battle to protect it. When both players r defensive it is a damn boring game that cursing aint gonna fix

I disagree with that..

As long as names are not mentioned, I think its ok. Otherwise the HC is just a quiet "bureau" that acts in the shadows without letting people know what´s ok and not. Ppl just "disappear" at night sometimes...

Thats not a HC, its possibly a C but the H has nothing to do there. Rules and prejudicates should be posted for the public players to see. This information doesnt mean the HC gives up any power, and contrary to the statement about more work, would probably reduce the workload by letting ppl know what will probably happen if taken to the HC.

Summary: The public needs information about what is and is not ok, and the enterpretation of rules. Quiting things down, putting a cap on things, is the way of evil, dictatorship and amateur governers. Just dont do it

Of course you can run. Sometimes a battle is only to feel you out or to weaken your army or maybe a free trip to the nearest town.

This "no running" theory would eventually lead to someone comparing stats at the end of week 2 and declaring a winner. Or... I killed your scout so you lose.

On retreating

I think 3DO should have built in experience for when a hero retreats from battle; for example, the number of HP already killed by the "victorious" hero, plus 250 for the retreat.

I think it's unfair to fight a battle, force an enemy retreat, and come away with nothing except battle wounds.

In time if anyone ruled a map he would be a fool to throw a game when he could eventually own the game.

People play this game with winning as the object usually, and thus whatever true game tactic is needed to do that would be acceptable (this is void of cheating tactics such as repeating turns, etc. of course).

Lastly, please don't bring personal complaints to the message board looking for solice.  If there is an Honor issue then take it to the Honor Council and have them look at your matter.  It really is a more honorable way of handling a frustration then ranting on the boards.
