Hi.
No joiners mean u can not under any circumstances accept wandering creatures to join yr army.
Its similar to no diplomacy rule, (no diplomacy rule mean u can not learn or use 2ndary skill diplomacy on any hero)
but creatures can sometimes join even without diplomacy, thats why some players clarify this by saying no joiners at all!
If u are not clear about everything, make sure u know what yr opponents mean when they state certain rules b4 starting game.
good luck
/Archie.

lol Hope i never have to choose between diplomacy and learning then.
I guess if anyone plays that rule i will just have to fill all the slots before they get to expert.

diplomacy has other uses besides joiners - it lowers significantly the cost of surrendering (good for hit and run ) and it allows you to visit libraries earlier (level 7 at expert instead of 10)

I know how usefull Diplomacy is cause i used to play nothing but.
My point is that how on earth is anyone supposed to play a strategy game when there are so many rules that prohibit using strategy.
Why cant people just use their imagination to counter a strategy with one of thier own instead of banning it.
Further more whats the difference between both players being allowed to use diplomacy and no players being allowed to use it. Its a pointless rule.

Reason for diplo rule: Some towns will have higher chances of getting heroes with diplo, and some heroes even starts with it.....so, since diplo is so powerful, if allowed, both players would want it, thus eliminating many towns from the game, and thus also the enjoyment.....My hint is: PLay with some rules, but not to many......I usually play with no diplo, necro, flux, carto, grail, dd/fly.....I play some very interesting games with those....
Anywayz.... happy gaming

I see. So if all spells are allowed Inc. DD and fly nobody would ever use fortress or stronghold.

Listen to Chubby051 young Skywalker
Don't let these people with no imagination scare you away from playing with no rules. They are all just point hungry bastages!!!
OK, now on a serious note....
There are a lot of people who like playing with no rules. And the same goes for people who do like playing with them. I myself enjoy playing without them. However, to each their own. Biggest thing is to just have fun.

Nah...not the problem.......one player gets it...the other not....(might come from a scroll or an artifact too) the one with the spell have a great tactical advantage...the one without not...the one with wins...the one without lose...simple as that.
So it's just a way to make the game as balanced as possible.

In other words i could still come accross a scroll or learn it from a scholar or pyramid but not be allowed to use it once i agree to that rule.
Sorry for all the questions but i am one of these who likes to get everything straight before diving into something.

Dodd don't let anyone coerce you into taking rules upon yourself. Play however you like to play and offer the same options to your opponents to have same opportunities as you have for yourself. That's as fair as anything. Most of all enjoy the game and take what troubles may befall you

Hiya, well in my opinion I think it silly for a noob to play with no rules against another more experienced player unless of course the noob is highly experienced, which in this case I doubt, "hence the questions he/she is asking", It would be so easy for an experienced player to take full advantage of a no rules game, as chubby mentioned the "point huggers" well they also in my opinion would do almost anything for a win, this I have experienced myself even with vets
Bottom Line: Make Rules Until You Are Comfortable And Feel You Have Learnt Enough To Play Without Rules, I Myself Play Any Rules My Opponents Wants, Watever They May Be, However, I Don't Play For Points I Play For Fun ONLY

The point is i am comfortable without rules.
I never even entertained the idea of playing with them until i came to toh from gamespy.
I have learned lessons from the beatings that i got on gamespy playing no rules that i could not have otherwise learned.
I am only a noob to toh not to online gaming.
