Creating Maps
One of the things that has kept Star Craft popular is how flexable the Map Editor is. I really wish Heroes of Might and Magic would have a more flexable map editor. Where you could set the health, strength, and maybe even the names of units. As well as other things. The "event" circle acts like a trigger, but even that is pretty restrictive. I can think of some very cool maps I would like to make with Heroes of Might and Magic IV.
What do you guys think?

YES YES YES!!!
NEW MAP EDITOR!!!
the map editor takes far to much effort to figure out and not enough stuff you can do like a land trigger that takes up a large radias ie. you place readious near a swamp so it takes up the whole thing and you make ennemies in it so you only fight em once
well i said it poorly but you probably know what im talking about

ummm, yep...
... a bit higher level of customizing would be more than welcome - still not too much - i´d leave the names the way they are, so the game wouldn´t lose on its originality

here are some other ideas of the types of things I would like to see in the map editor.
1. Be able to change the amount of resources each mine gives you each week. (ie. one particular resource area could produce 2 or 3 per day if it is in a central location)
2. More victory/loss conditions. (the more generic and user-definable the better)
3. Be able to modify the cost of units/structures/heroes. (i.e. you could give the Heroes a "starting level" and "starting skills" but the better ones are more expensive.)
4. Be able to define the requirements to pick up an attifact, instead of it only being random. (i.e. "you need to pay 10 ore, to pick up this axe" -or- "This helmet will always be free" )
5. Be able to create artifacts, units, castles, etc, in certain locations when certain criteria are met. (i.e. You sail around and using a partchment you found, you locate and bring Atlantis from the watery depths. Or... after 1 month, an ultimate artifact is created in the center of the map, for the strongest army to capture.)
Those are just some ideas I wished were in the HOMM III map editor.
Any other ideas?

In addition, the reandom map generator needs to be overhauled. The "no water" and "normal water" settings always crate a map with exactly one square of water, in the lower right corner. "Islands" isn't any better. The map makes weird-shaped peninsulae that are barely attached, and it makes a bunch of little islands covered entirely in obstacles. The map also doesn't place any random objects, and all the monsters it places are set to hostile with a preset starting number.
Okay. I'm done ranting.

I hear you. The random map generator is awful.
However, there will be no map generator for HMM4... even though HMM3 map generator was bad, there always is the option of not using it. Hopefully, some mapmakers will step up and make some good maps for HMM4.
