archiving maps
I would like to request that TOH use just one (winzip) type of archive for maps on the site. currently genesis is posted as an "ace" archive. It is not nearly as popular as winzip and most do not use it.

Zud, I think you been naked to long.... I checked the Maps page and Genesis is a Winzip file. I think being naked has gone to your head. lol =0)

Zud is right...i tried to download it two days ago and it was an "ace" file...today it was an winzip file so now i got it

Just checked to make sure
Not one .ace file in all the maps I was sent that I see I had ever added to the site.
I checked even though I was sure I had only .zip files the whole time doing updates for the maps pages.
No idea here where a .ace file came from if there was one.

which archive app you got for yer default ?
It doesn't matter what format ther actual file itself is in. If you have win ace set as your default archiver and it's set to handle winzip files a the winzip files would show up as ace files. I use win rar and all files i dl show up as win rar files. Hope this illuminates the situation for you.

yeah, but if you DONT have winace (which is the case with many people), then obviously you can't open an ace file

not sure what yer point is blue camel?
what does peeps having or not having win ace have to do with this subject? I just explained why a dlled win zip file would show up as an ace file. If a person doesn't have win ace installed no files would ever show up as an ace file on your comp.

This is all real simple
Jinxer had posted the 1.2 version of genesis on the TOH map page as an ace file.
when he saw this thread, he changed it to a zip file and played dumb.
now everone is goin in all directions.
Its just winzip is the most popular and a good standard to use. winrar and winace may be able to handle zip files. but winzip doesnt handle ace and rar extentions.
