Gold Golems or Magi
Well, this is big dilema I have when playing order.
I usually choose gold golems because they are mechanical, 50 HP, Magic resistance etc. I can create illusions when fighting neutral armies and lose little units, if any.
But, Magi's poison turned to be very effective even in multi. Their growth rate is high, especially if you have lord, and if you manage to save them, I bet many human players will try to kill them first.
Then, building mage tower leaves academy without real melee unit, providing you won't have many L4 units in multi, especially on poor map...
What do you think?

I have the same dilemma at times.
My decision to pursue with golems or magi really depends on the opponent that I am playing if I know. If I don't know which town I am playing against, I usually pick the magi.
I usually pick golems if I play a town which has much magic like Order, Chaos, Death. Golems are en excellent way to protect your shooters and heroes.

karim's going with gold golems cause he never gets level 4's so those are his only "melee-ers"

yeah like you can compare the poison a hero can do to a poison 80 mages can do ...

Gold Golems rocks
I always choose gold golems. Good for week 1 to stand in front of genies and halflings, very good to illusions. Also very good later in the game, because order cannot inflict much melle damage and with a good tactician can be very helpful near the DG or Titans (especially in great number). Also u don't need that poison very much, since the order can have many nasty spells including teleport or bersek, or blind or hypnotize. Also if u have problems with line of sight u can cast displacement. And u only a need a heal to get rid of poison (or a healing potion). U better just teleport his hero with your mage, dispel him with other mage and kill him with your Gold Golems (very good in melle with a tactician) then to poison him. Also the mages magic fist can be very well replaced by genies ice bolt (far more efficient) so i think gold golems are the best solution. But let's hear an oppinion from the Foolish Village clan, cause they love playing order.

This is an interesting topic, as I have this prob, too sometimes - I kinda agree to Azure, too
Well, dunno if I should create a new topic (I'm too lazy to search for this right now^^) - DG or Titan? - or does this decision depend on if u take mages or golems?

people who choose gold golems haven't played mod
and they have no idea
i had 250 magi once vs. arangar even tho he killed them in 3 rounds he still went for them first
they hit 1200 with magic fist and 600 with posion
not since 3.5 they could cast mass blur and mass curse so even better
gold golems can only walk and hit thats why you build nagas
like i said before mos tof people who posted on this cough azure acu cough haven't played mod ever before

Of course if you can amass really big number of level 2's (so many that it can play a role in late-game), Magi are much better. But it's not usual that they can get a place in an endfight army, I think :-)

Magi, nearly always. In small maps they can do good damage to heroes and are really helpful on adv map..cz I take usually nagas who support them.. i dont take them against chaos cz blacks are too tough.. and i dont think that ill take them against nature cz fenix /farie is a killer (cz of low hp)

on the only map i ever actually take level 2's to final battle(powerspot),i always choose mages.no matter what the opponent sticks in front of his heroes,that whopping great poison spell still hits.even with some magic resistance it is often still enough to put the hero down.

Every creature how has spells can do benefit spells on MASS. So in toh Mages and in hotseat Gold Golems. "

With teleport and pain mirror Gold golems is better againist mages and might heroes...
Againist chaos magi is almost uselles (exept his high morale allow to poison someone in 1 battle)
But if map is poor (or need to kill many slow monsters) magi is better
Illusion can be cast rtom neutral or opponents units at earling stages and from DG or tytans later.
If map not means that i can reach opponent while we have 5-7 level magi is good too if opponent not life or chaos.
