Poll Question:
Fog of War, Yes/No?

Out of the suggestion of one, would you guys like HoMM have a fog of war like aoe and otehr games. Fog of war is when you explored an area but can't see what is going until you have a unit or something else there to see. No fog of war is like the way the game is now. What do you think?

FOW should be added.  It adds greatly to realism without adversely affecting gameplay.

Fog of war is great but. castles should have farther radious
the lookout towers should be flagged or have units in them and heroes should be able to see farther

optional

Fog of war would add a greater strategic element to scouts and yes they should add such things as lookout towers, spells, and possibly different levels to the terrain(ie heroes on higher ground would be able to see heroes in a valley without being detected) which would accentuate this feature.

But I think since there will be such a split in opinions this should be a starting option.

-----------------------------------------------------------
Three good starting options would be: - fog of war
                                     - raze buildings
                                     - structure building
                                       on adventure map

I would be nice but of no major importance. It would make the "view earth" and "view air" spells more important, maybe the scouting skill as well, but I think all of us are used to the way it is now. So maybe as an option, why not?

I agree with TheLegend, because now I almost never use any of the 'View' spells.

fog of war

Opportunity to chose everything for any game is better than something fixed so I like fog of war turn off/on button in game options

here is the official FOW in homm4

I don't like it but it's true so deal with it!

There will be two levels of the "Fog of War" (as many other strategy games have). Black for completely unexplored ares, and light grey for areas with no line of sight to any active stacks (where enemy heroes could be lurking!).

I don't think I've ever seen a game that had a fog of war not have those two basic levels. Why wouldn't they have the area explored but you needed a unit to see what goes on in there. I don't know....but you're right.

...i´m looking forward to this new feature in homm4... a simple on/off button is also a good idea... it could be fixed to affect your score in the end as well...

What would the view radius be for mines/flagged dwellings.  This could make those more important, along with View spells and such.  They might have to add lookout towers on the map, and to some more towns.  I prefer the old way, but I am willing to give this way a chance.

Actually, since not all maps are about 6 newly built castles and heroes setting out on the same time to discover and conquer the world, I think it would make sense that you would have grey FOW in your own "land" and perhaps on some surroundings as well. (For centuries we lived in peace in our mileswide forests. Then they came...)
I mean theoretically, you would know the shape of your own land. Long sentence.

I think that the fog of war should be a feature in the game which can be turned on and off by the player, sorta like the mobile guards option in homm4. That way, you can play the game whatever ways you like.
