Crusader: Are you Oldtimer or Conn.... or maybe you're Ragning Titan ? Maybe you're Cat ? No ? Really ? So why you allways say "Mine threads" ?
And what right you have to tell about my forum and it's activity in it ? I stated my opinion, and you just attacked me directly. That all I need to know about your personality and manners. Thanks for revealing them !

Not, I'm not any of this guys, but you see oldtimer is disagree with the action and I talk about mine threads, because I have very active participation in it, I don't want to say, I'm the creator of this threads... I'm only consider my threads like I consider this my forum why??? because I have active participation in it, and I think the mods must ask first and after act... this forums is for a members not for the mods... and if you want apply a penalty, just do it, I don't insult anyone...
And if you want to think for the newbies ok, but you must think in the older ones too... I'm not saying I have many years here, I'm new here too, but I'm totall disagree in act before ask...

Ok, so then let me ask you a few things.
What is it that you actually want?
How will I go about doing this, and how if I don't know what that is?
Should you expect me to do that?
Are you acting in a way that would want me to do something even if I have come to agree with you?
Are you trying to get something done or do you just want to argue?

Welllll...
RMS has a point with the really long threads looking bad, but somehow I doubt that every thread on Page 1 would have 100 pages.
But eventually it would end up like that.
Maybe we could make a forum for extra-long threads with big spaces between the threads on Page 1 so that old threads don't lose their touch?
Or maybe just increase the spaces between the threads in all forums?
And while you're closing threads, how about deleting/closing threads in places like Page 65?!?
I'm not taking sides in this argument. I see both sides. RMS is right, but so is Crusader.

Ok...
first I want to say my points, and show that I'm disagree with in act before ask...
I don't know if this can be, but I want it back the threads... the original threads, because I think the top ten replies show the popularity of this threads and the people can see why this threads are popular...

Ok that I do apologize for. Indeed I should probably have consulted someone about it, but I really didn't foresee the need to as it seemed like a good decision at the time. Since I am inherantly lazy anyway, it took a few weeks from the time the idea popped into my head to when I actually did it, so as usual I had plenty time to think about it and it seemed ok.
Now, it I don't like it to look long but there is nothing wrong with being wrong. Other more modern software allows boards to simply trancate and summarize the numbers so that just a fraction of the numbers are displayed, and as testimony for the effectiveness of it, it still exists as an option for those who wish to run it that way...which is usually most people. I would rather see them as "1, 2, 3..." or "...98, 99, 100" or "1, 2...99, 100" or something. Since I knew that wasn't about to happen, I thought this solution would work. If you all disagree, then it can be reversed, though unfortunately I do not have the resources to do so.

So the logic is : "Long threads are ugly and should be locked."
Why aren't the following threads locked?
Please only weird people read this thread! No one else! I'm serious... (Oh yeah... because it's started by a mod)
More Fun than a Root Canal III (Oh yeah... because it's started by a mod)
Tell the truth, the whole truth, nothing but the truth – The Sequel (Oh yeah... because it's started by a mod)
RL photo's of HC members!@ (Oh yeah... because it's started by a mod)
I guess "Attack Iraq" gets mod wife protection.
But I suppose my eyes will feel better if they are protected from little numbers assaulting them. (As long as those little numbers are not in mod started threads)

Quote: Whether you believe it or not, I have your best interests in mind, whether or not it works out.
So it's in my best interest to have popular somewhat interesting threads closed? To have roleplaying threads closed. Why? So that fewer people will come here and post? To alienate active posters by calling everything they write spam so that fewer people will post so that mods don't have to read so much?
I am so sick and tired of people caalling everything spam. You guys clearly don't know what spam is. To you spam is any post that you don't like or understand. But some people put alot of effort into posting and writing their stuff while you casually dismiss their posts.
To all mods: STOP TRYING TO SOLVE PROBLEMS THAT DON"T EXIST!
I can't get over the fact that popular threads were closed because there were too many numbers (meaning alot of people liked and responded) under the threads.

I hope you're not insinuating that I hand picked out the threads that I didn't like to close them. I simply did not get to the others before my plan started to backfire. Even I can tell when something isn't quite right.
So now, I am not discriminating against just some threads.
What is not a problem now can potentially become one. Do you alawys wait for the point of no return to start trying to do something that will inevitably not work or take some chances and try to keep an eye out on something you can do to prevent that from happening?
I never called anything in here spam. Although I do rationally believe that some of it exists, I have made no mentino of that whatsoever, the reason being that it had nothing to do with my decision.

I wasn't insinuating anything. I was coming right out and saying it. Given the short time it must take to lock a thread, I find it hard to believe that massive protests began before the completion of lockfest '03. I am not insinuating that you hand picked threads, I am saying, in full view without hiding anything that I think you hand picked the threads with what appears to be a very clear criterion for not being locked.

Bah
i dun really know what to say really, at first i was going to have a quote reply post and basically say that i agreed with it all... then it struck me that both oldtimers posts and borts has such good points in them and with quotes everywhere my post maybe wouldnt be pleasing enough for RMS eyes so i decided not to have any
But its true though, just like Oldtimer says... when you add a sequel to a thread you basically kill its history. History of posts from many retired members now has written, history of posts that kept a thread together like "please only" who has been going for 2 years.
2 years.
Thats longer than ive been here, and its threads like that one who gives me an idea who for example shae was.
If not for those threads i wouldnt know who she was at all except for the fact that she was really popular.
And when a new member now checks out the sequel thread... off course he wont read it. he will think "well the first part cant be good since they decided to close it and make a new one"...
A thread like "please only..." isnt just a thread here, its a legacy from many posters. Its a great part of the HC history.
Personally i just cant buy the idea though...why?
So every thread that gets quite big will be closed now? That would be like saying "hey make a thread... but if it gets to popular we kill it by making a sequel out of it".
Now how supportive is that for members to put any time in making something good here?
And as for re opening threads from what ive heard only one person can do that, so its not as easy as you imply it. Because to do it he gotta go in the code of the msg board and open these threads again from there.
Off course it could be done, but will take time.
Anyways, hope you liked my post on this... and i made extra space and tried to keep my sentences short just for you and your eyes RMS..now aint i kind?
EDIT: typos

apologizes accepted RMS(by me), but this fact doesn't affect the main reason... the old threads are closed now, and if you don't re open that threads, you will kill all this history that Sir_Stiven and Oldtimer was talking, come on, this are good things for the HC, when I come here I glad to saw the old posts of the retired members... look into this threads and see how many new guys go to this threads and this are involved into their content...

I am against closing active threads too. I dont see any problem if they are long.
WE had a thread that reached the 7th post in Top 10(today, at those days it were the 4th or 5th one).
It was the New GAME: --> Make D&D characters for your handles! =). It was 29 pages long when it was closed. No player was asked about closing it or not. The MOD that closed that thread(I dont remember who did it anymore) had posted something like "This thread is getting too big... so I am closing it." He/She received some many IMs complaining about it(I was the first one to complain and ask to Unlock, but I wasnt possible they sad - I asked it to several MODs), that, ashamed, deleted his/her post. You can look at the thread now, but you wont see that post anymore. He/She created a new thread to keep that game, where he(writing he/she every time is too boring.. lets consider the MOD as he) put a link of the older thread. As the thread was a roleplay game, it wasnt possible to understand what was going without reading at least the 3 or 4 last pages of the older thread. The new thread was completely ignored by the members, and Bjorn190 created a new one to continue the game: New GAME 2 --> Make D&D characters for your handles! =) . But as you can see, the game died just a few pages after.
That thread was my favorite thread at that time in HC. When it "died", I just got discouraged to come to HC to post again. Unfortunately for you I am back .
But as I said to MODs that time, I just hated the idea of closing a active thread. Maybe because they post in so many threads, they dont have a favourite one.
A Question to MODs: why "Attack Iraq?" thread isnt closed. It is 61 pages long. Maybe because Nidhgrin notice what Sir_Stiven, Lord_Crusader and the others saying here.

If there's no server/page not found or some other technical problems with threads, and if they're active, they should've been kept open.
HC, luckily, doesn't have these problems.
So, let them live!
Inactive threads, lock them.
It would be nice of Val to make an Archive forum, read only, where all these good old threads will come.

The Round Table works with the following system. When a thread is 7 or more pages long, it starts to look like this:
1,...,23,24,25
Why can't we use that here?
