Need a little help
OK as most of y'all know Gan and I got cable on a networking connection.........Problem is it is giving 2 IPS and we can't seem to playu heroes right now. Does anyone know how we can get around this so I can play heroes again?!

Well, We got a prob sim. to that we have two sep. computers and two diff. placees(TIM is at work I'm at home) but we have the same IP..?????

if u have a router installed ? do u have a server now ? or internet conection sharing if so checkout the following site :

I have the same problem, but my problem is about two IPS, I have a LAN Network and a LAN MODEM, I have a External IP from the LAN modem and internal IP, from the PC, and I can't play HEROES online

That is what our problem is. The modem is a server with a built in router. It has an IP addy then this pc through wireless networking has a different IP. and Neither IP matches the ip that is displayed on the site that shows your ip LOL. So basically we got 3 different IP addy's. How do we get around that? Go back to Dial up

For most routers with dmz Demilitarized zone)
"Instead of having to open all those Ports, Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) allows one IP Address (computer) to be exposed to the Internet. Some applications require multiple TCP/IP ports to be open. DMZ allows just one computer to be exposed for that purpose. It is recommended that you set your computer with a static IP if you want to use DMZ. Use a local firewall when using DMZ though.
You may have to remove proxy settings, or remove the dial-up settings of the computer you configure for DMZ access. Those settings are in the Internet Explorer "Tools" / "Internet Options" menu under the "Connection" Tab / "Lan Settings". "

1. log on to the router
2. press dmz host if u have and enter the last digits of ur ip there : if u have 192.168.1.13 put 13 there an then press finished.
anyway what is the name of the router ?
if u don't have dmz check that site or call the routers manufacturer

It is a server router in one. It is called AB Orion 3000. I am so sick of this piece of crap I am about to go back to Dial up. At least then I could play online.

No one can and Roadrunner doesn't give support so I am about to go back to Dial up at 56k. Just like H4 Roadrunner SUCKS LOL.

I know i little bit about this but not much. But here is some info, and maybe it will help or maybe not.
"If you have a home network with a switch/router, it probably uses something called Network Address Translation to allow you to have more than one computer, but occupy only one IP address on the public Internet. The router separates your private network from the public network, and keeps track of connections through it, so that packets coming in get sent to the right computer.
When there is a connection request made by an outside computer to your IP address, the router doesn't know which of your computers to send the request to. Normally, this is good, because it keeps malicious people from finding ports that your computer might accept a connection. However, there are some times when it's needed, such as playing 42.
You need to tell the router to direct incoming connection requests to the “private” IP address of the computer you're playing on. Your router should have this described in the manual. You want to set ports 3632 through 3637 to go to your game PC's IP address.
If your router is set up to dynamically assign IP addresses (DHCP), then your game PC's address could change. You might want to set up your system with static IP addresses."

I believe this is referring to an online game called 42.
From what i understand, heroes data coming into your server doesnt know where to send the information. Consequently your server will discard the data, making heroes unplayable online.
I would suggest if u dont know how to set static ip addresses and the ports mentioned above, to contact the person u bought the server from and get them to walk u thru it.
I dont know if this will help or confuse u more, or if its totally irrelavent to your problem. If it helps good, if not oh well i tried
Also my brother works at roadrunner so i will see if i can get some information from him on this problem.
This is a common troubleshooting problem for roadrunner and if u are just paying for a residential cable hook-up, roadrunner tells u they do not support it. But at the same time if u get a business cable hook-up, i believe they will help u troubleshoot it. There thought process is, u could have a 100 pcs connecting to the internet thru your server/router. Thus getting way too many connections for the price of one.
Good luck and i will keep looking for a solution.

Not no server here, only 9 machines connected with a "concetrator" there you connect the 9 machines, the LAN MODEM is independient of the any machine

LC, i could be talking out of my hat and maybe coaie can verify or correct me, but a concentrator needs a network address translator (NAT) or a proxy server, or something similar to allow an internal lan to access the internet. You have one device accessing the internet (the modem u are referring to). But to route information to the appropriate computers, u need the proxy server, or NAT, or something. It can reside on one specific computer, but somehow the lan must distinguish were to send the data when it comes in. A concentrator allows a group of computers to be joined together, thus forming a lan. Typically one computer on this lan acts as a server( a regular computer can be a server), or has NAT on it. It really is hard to tell what a lan is using simply by looking at the hardware hookups. Maybe im wrong, maybe im right, i am just learning this stuff. Coaie seems to know what he is talking about, so i would like to know what his comments on this are.

I think he has router with NAT incorporated in the modem too.
It is very important what kind of modem u have , for Gangrail I couldn't find any information about his AB Orion 3000 .
But if u have a most common modem it is possible that it has a feature called DMZ (demilitarized zone ) which allows to a computer from your lan to receive packets it did not request which is needed in order to play on zone.
In this case it is very simple just activate the DMZ.
The second solution is to forward the ports used by zone and those are :
MsnZone: TCP Ports: 80, 443, 9999, 6667 (Trigger Port) for;
(Port Range) 28800 to 29100 TCP
DirectX 8 and 9: Initial (Trigger) Out Port: UDP 6073;
In/Outbound (Port Range): UDP 2300 to 2400
Unfortunately Port Forwarding also differs from one modem/router to another so a step by step tutorial it's impossible.
If u have problems trying one of the 2 solutions just post the name of the modem here and maybe will be able to help u.

Well, I can say how I install my LAN when I do format c:
First I have win98, and I install the drivers for the LAN card, after I install the program of the LAN MODEM "Intel Internet Station 56K" that is the name, after I only put my cable(UTP) to the concetrator, a simple concentrator... and this concentrator are connected to the LAN MODEM... the LAN MODEM is independient to any machine... I can have all the machines turn off, and just Turn on any machine, the only thing that I need turn on, is the concetrator and the LAN MODEM, I check my LAN CONFIGURATIONS in the internet Explorer, I don't have any proxy address, but when I connect to the zone or want to play IP via, this doesn't work... and in the zone and one time in gamespy when I try to connect to play heroes this said me, "you have two IP adresses" and this don't let me play

Luckily for u intel has a strong customer support so i am sure they will help u. Ask them about dmz or port forwarding .
I will try to find a manual of that modem but couldn't find anything yet.

I am about to have some friends of mine come in and remove the wireless connection and do a direct connect through a NIC. Maybe that will solve the problem.
