RMG templates help...

Hi I'm new here and I've decided to post because I'm very interested in the RMG templates. I use to play with friends and choosing a map is always a problem, we've played most of the original 3DO maps, choosing and downloading new maps from internet is a slow process (you hardly get what you want fast), and the RMG maps are not so good. That's why I think those RMG templates can help us so much, and help all the Heroes community as well. So before asking for help I would like to thank those who discovered the rmg.txt and it's info, and all those who work making new templates.

Now my problem is that after reading lots of posts about it I just can't make it work, (I must be too dumb or something). I've tried to erase all templates but one, (erasing only the names not all the info of the templates), and using the map editor to make the maps, and it just works sometimes. I just choose the size of the map, underground or not, and the rest is left random. Mys questions are:

1- When you are making the new random map, you have to select a proper size for the template you want to use right?.

2- You have to specify some more info to make it work?, just as number of players, etc..? Because even choosing the right size sometimes is just don't work, (an error message is displayed or it just hangs and never ends the process).

And also, I've donwloaded some templates from toh. How to make them work?. Just put it in your data folder with the name of rmg.txt?, or you have to copy the text and paste it in your original rmg.txt file?, anything else?, (the first methog didn't work at all for me).

Thank you in advance.

PD: I've spent nearly 10 minutes to register because most of the avatars were already chosen. Please change the method to register because it's a tedious process right now, (why not display only those avatars not chosen yet?).

For some reason, the templates dont work for me if I name them "rmg.txt" If I name them just "rmg" they work fine. Just make sure that small notepad file is in your heroes3/data folder (its usually 5-10kb) and named "rmg" and it should be fine.

Also, you must choose the right size and players, for example, extreme template choose XL no under and 2 players, if any other setting, it wont work.

The "rmg.txt" isnīt that hard to understand.
I spent many hours the last 2 months in learning
how to handle with all the numbers and facts.
Iīm playing random maps for my own and also the
Hotseat with a friend of mine.
I made about 10 different templates in my own "rmg.txt"
so feel free to send me a message about your favorite settings (number of players, size, easy, hard or expert, and all the other stuff that could be changed in the rmg.

Thank you...

So you must set the correct size and number of players. Ok now, but the page where you can download the templates in TOH should specify the number of players of each template.

Bye the way, any other site to download templates other than TOH?.

And I've tested some of the TOH templates and they seems to be 2 players only. Is there out any other templates with more players?. Because I use to play with 2 friends, and we like AI players to add some flavour .

Thank you very much.

Try this

I have a template that i made for a fun game for 2 players verses 2 comp but it is restricted to castle v rampart to work properly. Since i am never planning to release it due to no demand for this kind of template i dont care what happens to it. so just say the word and i will email you the zip.

Of course...

send it to me DoddTheSlayer. It's an allied map?. I use to play non allied maps, (playing against my friends and comp), but send it anyway, I'm sure I'll play it.

So people is just interested in two players templates?, just for tourneys?. I think this would be very interesting for all the heroes community not only those who play tourneys, but more different kind of templates should be made.

This summarises all u ever wanted to know about random map templates. I posted it at Celestial Heavens cuz they no nothing about it, and hopefully some of the H5 programmers might read it too, and make custom templates available in H5.

A small open template like b4h doesnt work with randoms because it is too easy to meet other player on day 2 or so. An open template like Roadrunner is XL for that reason. If u want a template with no relics, then try Panic.

For max # of towns, try Marathon, but it is a long game. u can end up with 10 or so towns and have time for double building. Your break to other player will require passing a stack as big as 80 black drags

sounds like u have ya files extensions hidden, thats all, so when u type in rmg.text it effectively becomes rmg.text.text.

ps. extreme is L and XL i think

It may be because your explorer hides the file extensions for widely know file types

when you name it rmg.txt windows reads is at rmg.txt.txt (second .txt is hidden)

when you name it rmg it becoms rmg.txt (.txt hidden again)

You can check it through "view/folder options/view/"hide file extensions for know file types""
when it is checked the .txt is hidden and your rmg must be named simply rmg

when it is not checked you must name it as rmg.txt

Thanks midnight

i thank you since, your the first one to even respond my threads! i understand why  a battle of honor wouldn't work, but i think road runner is to big....about marathon, yes, that's what i want, maybe controlling 10 towns....i love this game, did you ever play warlords or free for all? They give an map control idea.... Not only make your hero big...
