WOG bug - battle screen not showing up in mp
Hey, just installed the newest version - 3.57f - and whenever anyone attacks me, I don't get into the battle. The fight starts, but my guys just sit there. The other players are in the battle waiting for me to do something, but I still see the map screen. If I attack them, everything seems to work fine. Anyone know what the problem is?
Thanks.

HMM. Is your version of 3.57f the same as theirs? If they updated to 3.57f and you just downloaded the new allinon1 then that could be it there is a glitch in the new file to play the older version of 3.57f. Also did you install over a good unedited version of SoD or was the nocd crack installed? If the crack was installed before installing WoG then that could be it to. If neither then let me know and I will contact Slava to see what he thinks is wrong.

We all have the same version, 3.57f. The three of us each downloaded allinon1.zip. None of us has a no cd crack. I have stand alone versions of 1.4, AB and SOD. I even tried uninstalling AB, but that didn't work either. The bug only shows up for me. All 3 of us are running Windows XP if it matters.
I have tried everything I can think of, including reinstalling, running in Win 98 compatibility mode, etc.

I will look into this and have Gan see what he can figure out as well. I will also see if anyone else on the team has heard of this error.

So, any progress isolating this bug? I have had no luck. Ran MSconfig and turned everything off, but I still get it.
Not to rush you or anything, but I would REALLY like to play WOG.
Thanks for the help.

I have sent this link to the Rest of the team. They should be looking into it soon and will hopefully have an idea.

I assume you're playing a WoGified map of some sort, so here's a thought. Have you tried disabling any of the scripts in WoG options? It's quite possible that it could be a combat script problem.
My first suggestion would be to disable:
- Hero Specialization Boost
- Karmic Battles
- Battle Extender
If it works with those those three disabled, try enabling just one or two of them. I've recently seen a problem in single player in some circumstances with the combination of HSB and Karmic Battles; individually it works fine but together they cause a black screen and game crash.
It may be that there's some problems and that they're showing up even more in online multiplayer games.
If you disable these three and still experience the problems, try disabling other scripts and options (including Commanders), one or a few at a time. Or see if you can play with NO scripts or options enabled and then slowly add them back in.
If you do these tests, please post your results so we can try and correct the problems.
Thanks. :-)

Ok, I turned off EVERYTHING, but still set it to WOGIFY, and had the same problem. When I turn off everything and set it to wogify only wog maps while playing a 1.4 map, and my friend gets a "diff build error 2." While I get "EIP = 0x490b33, Access Violation
Attempt to write the inaccessible data at 0x4e28000" The number is different each time, but otherwise the same message.

Sorry about quoting all of that. This is what I meant to say:

Okay, so it's not a script problem then. I assume you were hosting the game or was someone else hosting?
Also, was this a two player game or three player?
In an earlier message you mentioned that three of you were playing but the problem only affected you. Does this mean that your two other friends, using Win XP and the same allinon1.zip of 3.57f, are able to play with no problems with a given map but when you try to play either of your friends you encounter the battle freeze?
If that's the case, it would that there's something different about your system. Either the hardware, software, or drivers must be causing some problem for you with online WoG games, but diagnosing exactly what it is sounds like it would be very difficult indeed. Perhaps Slava could figure out the problem, if he was sitting at your machine, but it seems unlikely otherwise.
The only other suggestion I can think of (short of getting new hardware) is to try installing a different operating system on your computer (such as Windows 98), but that would seem like a lot of trouble and hassle for just one game (even Heroes or WoG).
I assume that WoG is working correctly for you in single player mode. Is that right?

I have tried hosting and joining and the proplem persists both ways. My friends can play each other fine. Single player works fine. It works as long as I attack them and they don't attack me, although if I retreat, the game crashes. I appreciate your help. I am at my wits end. I'm about to try setting my video driver to Windows standard svga and see if that helps.

Ok, tried disabling the video but it still does the same thing. I am at my wits end. It's too bad. WOG is a really nice game, but single player is boring.
I guess I'll wait for the next version and try again.
Thank you very much for your help.
