Combined Towns Strategies
...I was just thinking that since others have opened up threads to discuss the strategies for other towns, I figured I might as well start one about playing multiple towns and how you deal with that...
...feel free to post your stragies...don't worry, nobody's even going to think about stealing them...

Well, if you can choose what towns you get, try to pick 2 that go together well, like Fortress and Stronghold. Then, ifn you have access to all the levels of creatures, your combined ary should look something like this:
Ancient Behemoths
Cyclops Kings
Mighty Gorgons
Chaos Hydras
Ogre Magi
Dragon Flies
Thunderbirds
This army can easily take out towns, while you use te rest of your troops to defend. Have the attacking army led by Barbarian, and put the defenders under the control of Witch.
Just an idea.

Yes, but I would also like to have some really weak creatures, like gnolls, to be bombardierd by towers and best enemy units.

Stronghold
The very best town to build up as a 2nd town is stronghold. So many games if I get stronghold week 1 I can get behemoth dwelling and castle along with my main town up to 6th level, then week 2 you got for gold, and week 3 you have ancients to add to main army, ancients are the best 7th level in my mind, 80% defense reduction, well- awesome.
After stronghold, I would probably make a Rampart my 2nd town with full armies, because it is cheap extra HP's you can fight your enemy with rampart army first, then in the same turn attack with your main town army.
Next would be between Castle and Fortress... Castle is easy to get angels, but high gold costs sometime tempts you to make mistake of buying upgrade before you should, fortress is nice, but normally to build straight to mighty requires lot of wood and ore when you might want mage guild instead because you own't get decent #'s of mighty till week 3 or 4 and that might be too late.
Last I would do Tower or Necro, necro is nice, but not good to mix with your main army, Tower can be beneficial with nagas and Magi and master genies great combo, but the problem is expense in precious minerals and also 3 good units, but can you get them in suffecient numbers to justify replacing your main town's units?

Whenever I am playing a huge map I always go for the Rampart first. That treasury is sweet. (I hope it is in HOMM4). Stronghold is good because it is cheap. Necros is good for army building, and if there is a Grail on the map always capture a Conflux!

I once tried a Necro/Dungeon combo and it worked great, but I had some morale boosters.
Evil Eyes
Medusas Queens
Minotaurs Kings
Black Dragons
Vampire Lords
Power Linchs
Dread Knights
All castle towers and shooters will shoot the VL most of the times and you can have them back easy, so you don't need some lower level units to receive the shooting. With this armie you have two great flying units (if you get expert haste the VL rocks), a great group of shooters (imagine if you get the golden bow or even the bow of the sharp shooter), and two of the best infantry units of the game (again with expert haste you will have a great efect).

It would probably be interesting to see castle and inferno together, 'cause they hate each other. It would look somth. like this:
archandel
arch devil
efreet sultan
champion
crusaders
cerberus
zealot(at least one archer) or pit lord

Wouldnt this cause terrible morale problems? I thought Black Dragons and Titans were arch enemies, like angels and devils? I am going to be in a situation like this shortly playing against a few friends and i need something that will go nicely with my dungeon, i was thinking rampart for the treasury, but then i wouldnt be able to combine the troops without morale boosters, any suggestions?

I don't think that you will have any problem because it seems combining armies who hate each other don't make any morale problems (at least that I know of and I play heroes 3 since he came out)

I would not go for all shooters army because I find shooters armies very underpowered in big battles (but they do wonders in minor skirmishes). I would go for:
1st-sprites(no retaleation and they have great growth rates, what is usefull because the castle towers usually shoot them)
2nd-wolf raiders(great offensive unit)
3rd-grand elves(great shooters)
4th-Vampire Lords(very usefull)
5th-Minotaur Kings(it's one of the units I use the most)
6th-Dread Knights(they have good HP and great offensive power)
7th-Titans(great shooters)

Shooters weak in end game...
haste, prayer, tactics- makes melee troops the best in the endgame. Even most shooters with no melee penalties don't do as much damage as equivalent level melee units. Excptinos, Liches and Titans... best shooters besides maybe sharpshooters, but those are hard to get usually without playing a special map.

( hi, newby here, nice to meet ya ^_^ )
interesting threat.
Actually, I've tried something like this before in HOMM3 ( without any expansions ), simply allying towns to create more powerfull armies. At first it were the 3 'good' towns which I allied, Tower, Rampart en Castle.
I've created more, but the best I got was an alliance I named "terror", which only consisted of Fortress and Necropolis towns, using their most powerfull creatures, all with great special abilities:
1 - Vampire Lord ( draining, no retaliation )
2 - Lich Lord ( actually, won't do much damage and will be attacked quite a lot. But this is not a problem since the army doesn't rely on their only shooter )
3 - Mighty Moo ( makes up for an extra level 7 creature with death stare )
4 - Dread Knight ( steady and possibility to do double damage )
5 - Wyven Monarch ( fast en poisonous )
6 - Ghost Dragon ( - 1 morale, aging )
7 - Chaos Hydra ( no retaliation, all hex attack )
Whats more, Hydras can be put in the transformer to create extra Ghost Dragons if thought to be nessesary.
Any thoughts about this?
