I need a rpg map..h3..wog...
I want it to have an extremely detailed storyline,if you've played hail to the king b4 you'll know what I mean.It has files for you to read. When you reach 1 part of the game it'll ask you to read this file, when you reach another part of the game it'll ask you to read that file.Because the long story cannot be added all into one event. Therefore I want someone who can write a very good story, extremely detailed-not overly done, extra large map and..probably with wog features-erm script.I don like commanders.
Just a request..a map like hail to the king would be really nice~..I don want it to extra large,it's too big.Large,maybe..and creating such a map would make other ppl play it too,not just me.
Anybody would create such a map for us to play?

why dont you create it? you seem to know everything about what you want. heroes 3 maps are laughably easy to create..nothing compared to the complexity of #4. i'm sure if you stopped talking on this community for awhile and put your mind to it you could pull it off.

that's the trouble with creating too many maps. You think it is easy?A goood map requires weeks and weeks of hard work and fine tuning to make it perfecct..it is never the easy.

Making maps can be easy or hard depending what you want the results to be. With WoG, I find that actually drawing the map is less than half the problem. Writing scripts and choosing what scripts to use is the other half of mapping. I just thank Skakik, in my case, for making maps and then sending them to me to script select. It really cuts down on his time and mine both. 2 minds in a map is very good!
I know some people like RPG type of WoG maps, and variety is good. But myself, I like maps where you are'nt limited as to where to go. But the map must also be decorative. Like the maps Skakik and I have done: Gelu vs Dracon, The World is Not Enough, and our newest Boloto.
These maps you can pretty much wander around, nothing linear. Most RPG maps I've found, were linear. (A set path)

I'm working with Timothy Duncan (aka Corribus) on a map. He's doing 99% of the map work and writing and I'm doing all the scripting.
It's an RPG map with a lot of story. If you're familiar with his maps from H2 and H3, he writes very detailed backgrounds and stories. We are including all the text in the map but there's certainly a lot of it!
The map is taking a long time to script because it's quite complicated and there's so much to do (and I'm also busy with WoG team work). Anyway, it's a remake of his THUNK map from H2 but greatly expanded and enhanced. In fact, he's remaking all the maps from the Last Hope H2 "campaign" (but releasing them individually for now). The first one (Last Hope) is already out and it's a small battle map with some scripting and story background as well. You can download it from Celestial Heavens or Map Haven. THUNK will hopefully be finished and tested in two to three months (possibly sooner).

And for those of you who like the RPG style of play, this map will be worth the wait. Last Hope is part one of the campaign these 2 guys are doing. It's available over at Celestial Heavens in the WoG map section. If none of you people to HOMM are aware of who Corribus is, his maps for HOMM2 are award winning. Both he and Fnord are converting the old THUNK campaign from HOMM2 into WOG format. The campaign was brilliant then, and shows a lot of potential for being something spectacular now.
So the wait will pay off is an understatement. One of the best mapmakers in the business hooking up with one of the best original scripters around. What more could you want from WoG?

THUNK? Now That's a Classic Map!
Funny thing is, I was just thinking of that map the other day! I'm glad to see somebody else was thinking of it too, and has more initiative than I.
lol
I can hardly wait to see what that turns into as the H2 version was a real experience.

I dont understand where scripting comes in with mapmaking.
I thought you just make a map from the editor.
Reguarding WoG maps, i would really like to be able to put some of the extra objects such as market of time and that object that lets you change troops, but they are not included in the editor.
Will there ever come a time when all objects can be placed on a map with the editor or does this have to be done through wogify process? I am only talking about the options for objects here and not the other options.

Not all objects in the map editor have wogify properties. But the objects you mentioned should work when you put them in a map. The only way they would'nt work, is if you have a customized ERM map that contains scripts in the timed events where the objects you mentioned do not exist anywhere on the map. You would have to locate the scripts in the s files for the market of time and the altar of transformation, where the s files are located in the data directory, copy and paste those scripts in the timed events, place the objects on the map, then they would work with the customized ERM map. To answer your question about non-workable objects, I believe the reason why not all objects are workable, is so that they can be scripted to work in a customized WoG map.

Most of those "blank" scriptable objects (including the Market of Time) can be found in the object section under the towns.
Also, make sure you run the WoG editor and not the SoD editor (after installing WoG, you still have the old SoD editor too).
Scripts are put into timed events with a code "ZVSE" as the first line of the message. Then following that is ERM code.

What I don't understand (just to join the ranks of the clueless ) is how do you make objects that are designed to be "scenery" and make em' an object you can go in eg. Statues in Choices and Wake of Gods campaign.

It's a bit complicated to sometimes, but basically, you have to use a TR command to change one of the "red" squares into a "yellow" trigger square. This is actually not too difficult in a standalone map script, but would be impossible in a generic WoGify script since you have to refer to the object by its exact x/y/level coordinates.
After changing the object's square to a yellow trigger square, you do the same sort of scripting you would do for any blank object (e.g., an object trigger set to the coordinates of the object, then a message display, and various other ERM commands to do whatever you want the object script to do). Usually you need to put in hint text for the object too, and sometimes it's necessary to change the object's type to mimick another object so that the AI can use it without difficulty. For example, in Choices, I changed the statues to Learning Stones for the AI.
