Slandering other Members

For those of you who do not remember the member Dar_Kraven. This is a member much like Soccerfeva. He made a number of threads in his first month or so of being here. He received huge amounts of criticism. After the flame wars between he and Andi, his reputation was ruined. There was no chance for any of his posts to be taken seriously. He stopped posting here. Even though I thought his posts were greatly improving and becoming more interesting. I doubt that others even tried to look. One more thing, I suspect that Dar_Kraven made a rebirth in HC shortly after leaving to clear his reputation. I will not say anything, but I noticed that this reincarnate was not flamed as before.

I was in the same boat when I first started posting here. I went on thread sprees. After I had reminders to stop making a new thread for everything I settled down. From time to time I still make new threads every so often. Some of them are boring, some do okay, but they don't spam the place. SF is making far fewer threads than he used to. And I think that if anyone else made some of the threads he made lately, they wouldn't have been criticized. Instead of bashing his spam threads, just don't post in them. He should learn that threads with Zero or like 2 replies are boring threads that way. This is how I learned what threads not to make, not from being attacked by other members. The mods asked me to settle down from making so many threads.

There is something that people should really think about.

If people complain about threads being boring then why do they post in them? All it does is bring the thread straight back to the top of the list. lol

If you really think it's that boring then ignore it and let it die all the sooner.

Another thing I learned. This is a tip for SF. If you think you have a good thread. Try to give it a name that attracts attention. This doesn't mean put !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! in the name or use Capitol letters.

Example: Does anyone know the thread More fun than a root canal...

Doesn't that attract attention? A more descriptive name name but much less boring name would be something like.

Find the picture game

Another thing I learned.

Ask yourself some questions?

1.) Does this thread leave room for conversation? (most important) Example: My thread about Current Thingies!@ that received a QP, but it didn't leave room for interesting conversation.

2.) Do you think this post is interesting? This is quite obvious, but I often found myself making threads that I can look back at now and think are really boring.

Really that's about it. Make sure there is room for good conversation or at least some conversation (a lot of times other people make the conversation interesting).

This goes to everyone else too. A lot of times people make conversations interesting like Cat, OT, Bort do so very often. They have taken many average to boring threads and made them quite interesting. So don't give up on those boring threads, try to make them into something.

Why don't we take a look at the first page of Tavern right now?

Let's see how many threads are there. 2. btw, I just posted in one that was back on page 2. So let's see, I think the guess the moderator thread is pretty cool. And his thread about the end of his posting frenzy was funny. Just make sure you aren't ignoring the thread/post because of the author behind the thread. Otherwise people get bad reputations that can't be broken, even if they are making good posts. Look at what happened to Dar_Kraven.

My personal QP for this

Well observed, members complain about spammers and tossers and yet reply to their threads. Every reply is an energy given to a particular cause. If a thread recieves enough energy, another similar one will appear, then another. If similar threads keep getting no energy, their creator will try something else.

As for posting, word is creative. Your word is the only way people know you at HC, so in creating threads and posts, you create yourself.
____________
You can wait for others to do it, but if they don't know how, you'll wait forever.
Be an example of what you want to see on HC and in the world.

People need to hear criticism so they can realise what they need to work on.
Some need to hear it otherwise they wont realise what they are doing.

SOme members make threads interesting because of popularity not the posters.
So many times I seen other members post or make a thread the exact same way, basically saying the same thang & they get no respect then if OT or Cat made that thread.
It's a fact.

ZHow many times have members took my original ideas or repeat what I say in the same thread or a dif one & they are looked at like heroes lol.

It's a members point of view on other members because of popularity of that member.

It's a known fact.

I think I'd like to add that some members have a great reputation from that fact that they are positive and friendly. This could be part of the reason members like OldTimer, Cat, and Bort get more attention than other people for their threads. I think that these reputations are certainly earned. However their being perpetuated was certainly not.

This applies for many people. Often times when people change from bad or good posting habits, people ignore that and either over-promote the coolness of someone's posting or bash them for being spammers when they have stopped spamming.

The point is that usually people earn gaining their reputation. Just be careful that you aren't spreading propaganda.

I read you rother reply before it got deleted Sox.
I think you totally missed my point.
I was trying to make the point that some members dont realise how bad of a spammer they really are until it is brought into thier detention.
Some like Extreme (Dar Kraven) needed to hear some of it so he can realise that he was annoying as heck.

Sucks that he had no choice but to change his name but yea he has gotten alot better.
It's like that in RL as well if you are doing somethang & you dont realise it is annoying or wrong or whatever the example is, then you make a point so they can realise & make thangs better, not trying to change them just letting them realise what they are doing.

I deleted it because I think I misread it originally. But I think I must have some type of brain damage now cause I understand your post and agree with it.

Oh wait now I remember what my original thinking was. I was still annoyed because I thought you were trying to justify your complaining. But yes sometimes people need to be addressed. However the unfair treatment of someone who is trying to improve is not okay. It was a real shame to see Soccerfeva really trying to improve only to continue to be bashed and slandered.

I guess once you make a reputation you also make a name for yourself as that kind of person.

Everyone is so used to the useless 20 threads a day with worthless topics that when he does make an attempt, commuters here are just used to the same ole Soccer Feva.

I seen his attempt but I have not seen him lately.

Just a small question here...

What would you think of having 2 thread categories....

one for information about the game (i.e. strategies, stats, calculations, etc..)
and another for memebers to have discusions on these subjects.... (if any important info arrises in these discusions they could be added to the info thread to compliment them)

this way, someone looking for info, how stuff works and so on, could check here for answers.....  and members who have questions and wish to discuss certain things could do so without reprimand.  The discussions could be closed when the subject is done.

nothing worse than being told to read the threads for answers and then having to read throug50 pages of opinions and off topic stuff to find them..

I would advise looking around because you will find many of those your are looking for BUDDY!

Plus why bother I mean if you have Questions about the thread then ask, if you want info, dont be lazy, scroll until you find what you are looking for.

Ok let me put it this way, it's a waste of space & it's unessary to have 2 threads in one topic.

Not that hard to skip a reply.
