Which Magic System did you like the best?

There was homm2, where every Hero could learn every spell if they had high enough Wisdom and a Spell Book.. then in homm3 you had to know either Earth, Fire, Air, or Water Magic in Beginner, Advanced, and Expert Skill levels to be able to cast the spells (which i hated btw ), and now there's a different set of Spells for every town-type... in homm2 and 3 the Mage Guilds worked the same, where the spells for each level were just random from every spell there was, and now every town type (except Might of course) can build up to 3 different types of Magic... i might be wrong about some of the stuff from homm2 and 3, i haven't played them in ages lol... well neway -

My personal favorite is homm4, since i reallly like the new Skill thing.. plus it's kool how every town can have spells from its closest-aligned towns.. cept for that Order is aligned with Death, but i guess there was no way to solve that lol - well, what about u? whats ur favorite?

I dont believe that this is entierly correct. I think that in H3 you only need high enough wisdom to learn a spell. beginner, Advanced and Expert skill only increase the damage or magic needed.

I agree with you with H4 being better. It is more complex and strategic when you can only use a select group of magic, depended on what skills you start with. It also gives you some incentive to go out and learn more magic skills or capture castles and buy heroes that are from their alignment.

Besides, having the ability to have all magic in H4 would be to powerful. Can you imagine Chaos, Order and Death magic all together!!! You could immediently cast a mass curse, then a DD spell like chain lightning and then cast a mass beneficial spell on all your units, you would be unstoppable

u forgot sumthin?waddabout KB and HoMM1?and how exactly is H3 system different from the H2 system?

in KB u had to buy every single spell and u could use as much of it as u bought, the only thing is that u had to know how to cast spell,no wisdom no nuthi, just locate a place where they sell the spell u want.
this system I didn't quite like!

in HoMM1,since there still were no secondary skills,no wisdom required.U get all the spells in the guild if u have a magic book, again it used a similar system:
u get knowledge x 10 of each spell in the guild.

in HoMM2,spellpoints were introduced, also secondary skills!you can learn any spell if u have a book and enuff wisdom, then u can cast any spell as long as u got enuff spellpoints.
this is a nice system, tho with this, even a barbarian can easily cast lvl5 spells!

the homm3 magic system is just like homm2,if u have enuff wisdom and a spellbook,u got the spell!the spells are 1st time divided into spell schools.U don't need to know any magic element skills to cast spells, only wisdom, element skills only enhance the effectiveness of ur spells!
I liked this system best, tho still, high lvl magic is very available for even barbarians!

in HoMM4 the system was slightly changed:now u need to learn the magic skill which spells u want to learn.
this is a nice system, since there will be no hero that can learn any spell.

well, hope this is a lil more accurate

Why ? That system made no sence to me. Everybody could learn everything. Even the barbarians could easily learn spells like Implosion and DD... That makes no sence

and thats why the new Classes are so great lol.. instead of it just being a Barbarian who can summon white tigers, he's a beastmaster... plus the mage guild idea with the neighboring alignments is kool, so spells arent so random and you wont learn Chaos Magic in an Academy

I like the Heroes IV method best, although there is one gripe I have about it: some spells ought to be universal. Why can only Order use Dispel, for instance? Or the various Ward spells, why are they Life spells? It'd be nice if there was a generic "Universal" school containing that kind of spells, that a character with any magic skill could learn.

Yeah!
Like in master of magic, where dispel and some other spells were general and were available even if u play without any other magic!

But no,in HoMM4,I kinda like it as it is,that will force you to learn either life, death or order, even if just for that spell...
or just recruit a magic hero from one alignement to for the final battle...

I think H4 is better than H3. They solved a lot of bad-balance issues from H3 in H4.

I don't think the ward-spells should be available to every spellcaster. Life spellcasters have not much to attack or curse with. All they have is some protection and healing, and if the others get it because it is such a basic need, then they have nothing special.

The potions replace those general spells, you can cast heal and exorcism on your hero, and some cursing things on the enemy with them.

The fact that genies can make too strong illusion stacks, make cancellation and dispel such basic needs. So limit the genies in some way.

You can also cancel spells by casting the opposite spell.
