Nice!
To change and cut a hero is not that hard, but the cut must be 82x82, you often lose quality, and so on...
Out of curiosity, did you intend to make an undead elven faction?
Also, I have proven that the magenta outside the circle is not important. The UI covers it anyways. Facetool takes the first pixel in the upper left as a reference for which color will be transparent though (which appears as white or tan), so in my portraits I place such a magenta square for reference.
(God, I hate magenta : P)
And here is my recently created collection!
[well, part of it anyways, I didn't export every single portrait... but most of the nicer ones are here anyways ; ) ]
It took me like a whole day but I hope it was worth it... for me and my mod at least : P

Well all of the compiled ones, are 82x82, so you should be able to just cut inside the Black lines and get the proper size, without loosing quality, at least with the ones I posted.
No not undead elves but I did add them as a Swamp Elven faction for my campaign, the Tale of Young Mudgeon. Most of the rest will also be featured in that campaign. They're a mix of Nature and Chaos (the swamp creatures). I would've loved to add new template ring to unite the creatures as well, but I already released it, so only the heroes have the darker green template ring.
You added some nice color changes to some of the template rings I must say.

Karmakeld, your link does not work correctly. Here it is fixed:
http://www.celestialheavens.com/forum/7/15973?p=362705#p362705
Neither that link for download or the one on the Russian forum actually work, though :/
both have been taken down...
And the image has an ugly watermark. Fortunately it doesn't cover all heroes, so it can still be used and appreaciated, if not in full.
As regards the "cutting up": Yes, I know they are the right size, but go one pixel over with your mouse and h4 facetool will no longer accept them. I can control it on Photoshop but it takes a lot of RAM
(Later, I will upload my .psd file with lots of portraits and configurations)
They looked empty without rings, so at the very least they should have ones that reflect their personality/probable faction, right? : P
To go with my portraits (and the rest), I have released a pack of over 70 Hero-Creature files, ready-to-use (actually they are 73 of 74 total original creatures, but I don't even know which ones I missed. Tell me ... plus there are other custom ones besides them). Find it on the Hero-Creature thread. The files themselves are only a few kilobytes, even much lighter than portraits.

I'm having issues with the FaceKit from your link Baronus. I get an error 'Name lenght is overflow!!'
Just wanted to try it out, if it allowed me to also change class and gender of the heroes.

You can easily change name and gender and class of the heroes in table.heroes.txt ... then build it to .h4r file (new.h4r, new_mod.h4r, or nim_mod.h4r depending on your version)
If for some reason someone doesn't know/can't extract it, an already extracted copy is included in my full heroes creatures download link (http://heroescommunity.com/viewthread.php3?TID=42915)

this one
Well the link itself work, but the FaceKit mentioned on the site, as a counterpart to the FaceTool, is what's causing issues.

NimoStar, you really need to upload your pictures to a more permanent place, a lot of the pictures you've posted here and in your modding tread are no longer showing.
Anyway, fooling around with extrator tools and the H4 files, revealed an unused portrait, named Hexis.

It was a permanent place... postimg.org
But they had financial difficulties with their cheaty business scheme so now they are destroying the images without a linkback... it was not my fault, it worked for years and this is unprecedented :/
* * *
That hero and others like it probably got cut after they decided "all gnolls and mudlanders died"

Hello there!
Any idea how to change a creature portrait?
I want to add some kind of lich portrait, but it isn't works anyway. It seems all the portraits in icons.creatures.xx.lay files are the same size but when I copy and paste in hex editor one icon data to another place, the result is an "abnormal program termination". What did i wrong?

Probably must be the same size point by point. Or you must know how change size. Or must be portrait for each creature. Two the same gives you error.
HIV defs are very hard to replace. We have only face def tool programmed only for faces def.

Well, this is the hex blah-blah of the mummy and the venom spawn icons in the .52.lay file:
I think this means these things share the same size in the file. But when I replace one with another, I get the error. I can't figure out why...?

You replaced both 1 for 2 and 2 for 1?
Maybe at begin or end is register? And dont fit? Or maybe you replaced only palette or only picture without palette? It must fit.

Youncan replace one portrait in hero def. Then you can compare and see what is another? Only one place or in some places are differences. Maybe you must replace more than one place. HIV is extremly hard to mod. No tools. Only faces.

This isn't likely linked to your issue, but you should note that all portrait are in fact in two sizes, 52x52 and 82x82. The same goes for heroes. My hope is that Namerutan and/or NimoStar will find a way to do so in a near future. I know you're not the only with a wish to be able to change creature portraits.
