"Saved i would call it.

Look how heroes4 has turned out now, there is no addictiveness in it at all. Looking at TOH i just saw that there were about 30 active players in heroes4 TOH now. And yet TOH is in on its first season. Compare that to heroes3 TOH who has about the same activity i guess, difference is this game is on its 5th season now...and it has had 2 inbetween seasons..."

this only shows the online portion, i personaly prefer h4 to h3 for single player. but online i find it takes to long much longer then h3.

i know a quite a few people that prefer h4 to h3 for single player but dont play online. (even hotseat for that matter)

H4 seems to be beter the more you play it, where H3 was just like H2 so there was no learning curve.

Indeed it only does show the online portion, but from what i know multiplayer is the next step for players who concider themselves to handle singleplayer enough to go out and test themselves against the best.

And when i see this few heroes4 players online yet only in first season it tells me that they didnt like the game enough to try and take it at a multiplayer level. Or simplier put, they got bored with it.

Which was my point in last post, heroes4 doesnt have the same level of addictiveness as heroes3 did.

Then if you believe that there are no learning curve from heroes2 then thats your opinion. IMO its a very naive opinion but you are still entitled to it. Though if you wanna test that no learning curve of yours id be more than happy to play you at a random map sometime. Maybe that will make you realise how big of a learning curve you have left to learn

Your call is your own opinion on this issue, however my opinion Homm5 wold be spoiled and dragged back to invulnerable hero and stupid magic system times.

You forget, that many players play single, not in ToH. I tried playing MP also, but I didn't like it, but for single player Homm4 is far more interesting, then Homm3.

Bring back alot of the qualities from heroes3 and spice it up with some ideas from heroes4 and bring up several new ones and im sure heroes V will turn out good. Just have heroes3 as the core to build from, not heroes4.

generally I agree with you, but my Homm5 is more Homm4, then homm3. I don't say, that Homm3 was bad, just I like hero more active, then it was before, spell sysem works better now. I like building choosing. I do expect something between those two series.
And better AI, better then Homm4 (definately) and better, then in Homm3. Also the map editor, homm4 had and even maybe something simmilar to WC3 editor. And of course random map generator with good templates...

oh, i must have misunderstood you

i think that homm3 was more or less ok, but homm2 was a lot better. homm2 has crappy graphics quality compared to homm3, but still i'm not the only one that thinks that homm2 is the best game of the series.

not only that the creatures look more appropriate in homm2, it also doesn't have the 'wait' option in combat. i am not sure if the the 'wait' option is evil in itself but the way it turned out in homm3 is pure evil imho. and the uprgrade system applied globally is evil too.

homm4 does have some ideas that look positive, but the downside is that creature graphics often look even less appropriate than in homm3, there are spells that correspond directly to some important creature abilities (emphasis is on 'directly'), global no-upgrade system,.....

oh, there are more, but what i wanted to say is just that imho homm2 would be a better starting point than homm3 or homm4, and that maybe it would also be a good idea to try kings bounty if troop upkeep was considered.

Playing single player Homm 2 can be very challenging. More so than Homm 3.

Some of the best concepts of the game are in Homm2 and lost in Homm3 / Homm4.

It's easier to predict what the combat AI is going to do in Heroes 2, so in that way it's easier to win, but not having the wait button favours the AI since players often use it in a better way than the AI.

Also the way flyers worked favoured the AI I think. When  you can move a flyer to any space then you can just select the optimal hex for the unit and attack.

I don't necessarily want these features back, but it's imperative that the combat AI is good in handling existing options.

For this reason I'm also a bit reluctant to add new flexibility to the combat options, since players will likely use them to exploit the poorer AI.

About H4 multiplayer

Consider this:

= H3 had multiplayer from start,
= H4 players had to wait ages until multiplayer was possible. Even then, it had buggy start (drag&drop townportal - very, very cheap and unstoppable).

Believe or not, but id does matter.

And if you ask me, H4 campaign is horrible. Sure it has good story, but when I play it I feel caged. You HAVE TO conquer THIS before THAT, often even without any explaination. It's so linear it's simply unbelievable. After finishing the campaign you're going to be average player at best, because it learns mostly searching map for keymasters' tents. Unlike H2 or H3 campaign, where you fight for suvival.

It's a proven fact that very linear game has very poor replay value. Deus Ex has very detailed story, too but because you can make major choices it has much better replay value.

What about multiplayer ? As far as I remember AI was always very dumb in games requiring intelligence rather than brute-force computing power. I think it will always be dumber in such games.

If you want to play against good AI, play mathematical game not requiring too much intelligence, like chess. Yes, research shows that chessmaster uses mainly brain parts responsible for memory (while playing). A chessmaster usually recalls similar situations that took place earlier, and he immediately chooses best move.
Unlike novice chess players, who actually think MUCH more, because they have to find good moves by themselves !

i am not saying that i havn't used wait with fast units myself, but i still think it's stupid-looking and annoying tactics.

if you are concerned about multiplayer, then i could add that it wastes time during battles. more or less as annoying as chaining imho.

my proposals 2 h5

My Proposals:
1. make good economic(i cant see good strategy game without good economic side), I could said that have back h3 economic model would be great idea.
2. graphic, hero portraits and their models in battles, units in h4 is so crappy, that even it pushes potential fans from h4 game, i even dont talk about newbies. Examples: look at phoenixes/behemoths/sorceres(hero)/towns.
This means i dont care how graphics will look - 2d or 3d, but it must look awesome, that u could even watch at one unit for hours
3. Bring back Profusion! this is main homm trump card, this is why im playing heroes3 till 1999 years and still dont think about stoping, this is because when u forgot something, to find out it again is a lot of fun

Graphics

I happen to agree with zhukaSS on that point, better with good-looking 2d creatures than bad-looking 3d creatures.

Given that the community has shown a good interest in Modding, I would like to suggest the ability to modify the game. I know that there is the danger of leaking the source code or whatever, but it extends the playing life of the game a lot.
I also want the Heroes 5 game to be original, something different. Heroes of Might and Magic had it going, with the hero acting as the "commander" who stayed out of battles... but then they ruined it with Heroes 4, which introduced the hero being on the battle field and separating creatures from the hero. Bad choice, because now it is just like Age of Wonders- which already has both feet up on its style.
Going 3d with a turn-based strategy game could be interesting though. Indeed, the camera will play a big role in its playability.

my wish for heroes 5 is to have 7 creature stages and an 8th grail stage and not having to choose one of 2 creatures that are on the same level, about the designs i would really prefer the look of the soliders in hearoes 3,the only soliders that i liked their lok in heroes 4 were the thunderbird and the hell horse(don't know the name, never played h4 cuz everybody told me it sucks)ummm,oh and bring back the upgrades

ToH will Sit Quietly And See What Happens...

Hoping for a good Homm5; if so, ToH will be there, in full force to support multiplayer, and be the core of online homm5 action.

Originally the automation was to support over 100,000 users and literally an unlimited number of ranked players, but unfortunately homm4 was not what we predicted. A waste of programming I hope will be useful for homm5.

I'll sit back and watch the progress of homm5; but this is to MuadDib: If you want some quality playtesters in the future, when the game is ready to be finished, try contacting some of our longtime players like Zud, who has played homm3/homm4 in over 2000 multiplayer games.  They will give you a view that no playtester in UBisoft ever will be able to concieve.
