Where is the world is Carmen " Map Council "?????

Once upon a time there was a GREAT idea.  A Map council to study and oversee maps before they were posted for game play in the tourny.  Now it appears that any and every map made is posted without a 2nd thought.

I realize a few of the original map council members have disappeared, but I dont think that we should just forget about it all together. I think we should re-appoint a new council.

I am all for new maps dont get me wrong, but I think the maps standards should be of the highest quality etc etc. And there are some maps that are on the maps list that shouldnt be there.

I think if we had 3 members to the council and each member looked and tested the map etc and then gave there personal rating. On a scale of 1-10.  And total all 3 council members ratings and the total number should have to be for example 20 outta 30 possible points to be posted.

I personally get tired of people saying there is 75 maps to choose from when infact there are maybe only 25 maps at the most that are honestly decent enough tournament maps. Ofcourse thats my personal opinion.  Which we all know dont count for much.    

Anyways thoughts on re-opening Map Council???

Just to make this clear, Jinx, my friend ... I recently submitted a map to the council that was not posted, nor will it be, I presume, though noone bothered to even send me a rejection notice.  Decisions are still made, however; have no fear of that.

Hmm  I stand Corrected... If what laelth says is true...then there is still a map council.  How ever I think that there needs to be more members and more than 5 mins a day invested

Any serious volunteers.

nooo, we will be stuck at 84 maps now and 2 more in 2 years if Jinxer joins map council ( and those 2 will be used as reference in his posts over that period ) made by him of course !

around 70% of maps are playable, even if some maybe good only for one time, under blindness excitement

even that 'fallen star' map or Veldrynus maps.. which all have 'junky' points, enough to recylce them instantly.. yet could be easily transformed to very good MP maps.. with few touches changed

You did get the map and so did Ves, but it wasn't really that recently, I suppose.  It was late September, in fact.  This thread might jog your memory:

As for the "Clans of Vandea" link, well, simple inertia keeps it on my sig.  There may be a groundswell of support for a second season under a different format, or there might not be.  We'll see.

I wouldnt mind being on Map Council.  Even if I put 4 times the energy and work into map council it would only take 20 mins a day Since Ves says they only put 5 mins a day now.

I just personly see the map styles falling into a stagnant path. Since we have 2 years before H5 and no random map generator, each and every map that is to come should be increasingly unique, in thought and preperation and play style.

For example.  As kewl as the it looks, I think its silly for people to make a map based totally on how good it looks in mini map.  Playability and strategies and unique things on map should be top conciderations. Also, the map should be filled up. Couple of maps I have tryed lately have 50% just empty grass land.  Kinda boring.

yes I agree & always have for numerous types of maps with more then breaking through the middle or breaking through the borderguards type maps.
I have many ideas which many took in heroes 3 maps but it sounds like your serious about taking the job, but it also sounds like you need a little more time on the com.
You say it takes 5-20 min a map review then go for it by all means lol.

I was being Sarcastic Aculias.  5-20 mins is no where near enough time.  Thats my point. Not enough time is being spent on judging the maps being submitted, they are just blindly being posted, and then when they NEVER get played, they just set there taking up space. I would MUCH rather have 10 High Quality great maps, then have 80 maps that are pretty to look at in mini map and are average quality.

Yers but we have to keep even the few players happy that may like some of those maps most never play & good to keep a good variety but look at the players rankings & see which map would never be played & take them off to the sides.

hmm.. (and i've said this before) i think this is a common trap that many of the maps fall into, and i think it's the main reason we have so many maps where you can get tons of big heroes.. mapmakers feel a need to fill the space with stuff to do, so they fill it with a bunch of powerups.  I think one thing that would help is if the equilibris guys would add a bunch of new adventure objects so that mapmakers don't end up putting 20 learning stones or 10 trees on a map

because of the lack of variety in adventure objects, it's pretty hard to make a big map filled with stuff to do, and prevent each player from having several huge heroes.  i dunno, but i think it's a pretty common sentiment that lots of ridiculously big heroes = old and worn out.

it's no coincedence then that most of the latest new maps have been smallish.

hey jinx..
you woke up saturday while thinking it was monday?

if we exclude bobntmar activity in early days, as councilier, things always been stagnant.

i wonder what triggers you NOW, that last maps posted have innovating points and are-at least-fine maps overall. maps like hot_minute, long journey, pwspot , tron..

However, things could be much better if we had a more active council, yes.
..not only for DISapproving maps, but being interactive with authors, giving suggestions of how they could be best for oline gaming.
Veldrynus maps, for example, i wont play them because of all those FIXed artifacts in them.. im sure most feel this way. He should be asked to transform maps for tournament use or allow someone else-like camel- to do it.

I agree with Insa.  What's needed is an active maps council that can make suggestions for improvements.  Quite a few maps on the list are beautiful and interesting (but not well-suited for MP, imho).  Someone just suggesting (or demanding) needed improvements would make for much better maps.

... but who's gonna do it?  Not me.  Nor would I ask anyone else to do it.  It would take a lot of energy from several dedicated people to have a working maps council.

And, as Bob can tell you, putting up with cranky, rejected, and dejected mapmakers (like me) is no fun.

yeah, that's the problem i think - most mapmakers have an ego (i'm guilty too i think ) and so tellin them that they need to change their map might piss em off and i guess people are scared of that  i'd be willing to do it, although i've been told i'm not very diplomatic, so.. i might not be the best person to send such an email to a mapmaker
