OOC: Sorry Motherdark had already given orders to kill on sight. Whoever that was would have killed you immediately, not taken you away as hostage.
Illyria plunged her sword into the angel's spine and watched him fall to the ground.
"Come with me, Tytan!" yelled Illyria. "Mother has been slain."
"Slain? What is slain?" asked the giant oaf.
"Motherdark is dead!" Tytan let out a roar of pure rage almost like that of Motherdark's deadly screech. He grabbed the nearest tree and pulled it out of the ground. He flailed it wildly knocking down other trees. The forest looked as though their was a hurricane. After more than a minute his temper cooled enough to once again be capable of speaking words.
"Gooooooooooooooooo! Pound! Goo-pound GOO!"
"Tytan we must see Motherdark's body. Come with me!" said Illyria for the last of countless times. For with Tytan's ability to utter words came the ability to acknowledge his surroundings or at least the screaming, impatient Illyria. And so the giant oaf ran after Illyria, flailing his tree trunk, causing all sorts of destruction in his path.
OOC: Next post will be the funeral of Motherdark.

Dervol
I felt a buzzing in my ears, like an insistent fly.
I'd been feeling it ever since MM did his crazy-man act.
Why were men such.....babies.
Obviously he needed some time to vent his anger, and I didn't feel like watching him blast trees into splinters.
There it was again, a buzzing in my ears, and the faint taste of magic on my teeth.
'You feel that?' I asked Kaylianna.
'What?' she asked, looking at the horizon over which MM disappeared. She was nearly as brainless as he was worrying about him.
'That buzz, taste the back of your teeth and tell me you don't feel it'.
'Yeah, I taste it. I just thought it was Mighty throwing the stray magic about'. Her eyes never left the horizon.
Fool woman!
'Kay, MM's way too far away for us to still feel what he's doing, there's something alot closer generating some kind of magical field'.
That got her attention, meeting my eyes she said 'Triangulation?' I nodded.
Closing our eyes we joined left hands. Then, licking my index finger I initiated the spell into Kaylianna. My index finger immediately began to tickle.
Meanwhile Kaylianna, as the focus of the spell felt her right arm raise of it's own accord and felt her finger point. Looking at what she was pointing at I was shocked.
'What's she pointing at me for?' asked Deimos.

'No it's not coming from the Magog, just.....around him it's strange....I'm not sure what it is but I know it's not Deimos....' said Kaylianna.
Suddenly Deimos yelped and dropped his bag.
'Ow that's sore, okay which one of you two put the electricity in my bag' he said glaring at the two mages.
They exchanged a blank look, 'Calm down Deimos' said Dervol. 'We didn't do a thing. Maybe you should just leave the bag on the ground for a whi-'
She stopped mid-sentence staring at the bag, they all did.
Pouring out of it was a white and black smoke that was cold to the skin and smelled of doom.
They all backed away when the white light began to shine out of, shielding their eyes when it became too bright to look at.
'Can you see what's going on Vadskye?' Kaylianna shouted. Vadskye had wrapped a black piece of cloth around his eyes to try and see.
'No! it's way too bright, it burns to look at it!' he shouted back, his words whipped away by a wind none of them could feel.
So none of them saw the light take on the shape of a dragon, then shrink to that of a man, nor did they see the smoke enter the figure, nor see it shimmer into the visage of someone they all knew....
When it was safe to look Deimos was the first to speak

Vadskye was still seeing spots from trying to look past the brightness... He was glad he had thought of the cloth. Even so, he was somewhat stunned. When he was just starting to see normally, he heard Dervol call out "DEAN!". Turning quickly, he looked in the direction of where the light had been. Although he couldn't see well yet, there could be no mistaking him.
Vadskye: o_O "Where did you come from!!!"
When he had gotten over his initial shock, he noticed something else...

Closer and closer the trio grew to the emerald they were to recover, and with each new step the spell the time mage had cast was wearing off. But he needed not worry yet, for there was still much time to come before the emerald would return from its lapse in time. RSF knew this, and continued down his path to meet up with the Supreme Magi. He hoped he could return with them in time to protect the emerald once it returned to this timeflow.
"We should set up camp for the night soon," Alivia spoke up to her mother, who had set herself intentionally between her and Shadowcaster as they walked, "it is growing late, and we want to be fresh should there be any surprises waiting near the emerald."
"No, we should press on, my daughter," Motherdark began in a slightly derisive tone, "we need only worry about the time mage waiting for us, and he will be no trouble should we find him there. Those insufferable supreme magi, they are who we need to avoid, and those crystals they hold are nowhere near here." Her face darkened, "I would know if they were."
Alivia's face had also darkened at the mention of her son's rival, and she fell into a deep contemplation, staring intently at the ground for a good while. The three continued on in silence, each locked in thought over the one thing they desired most. Motherdark wished for the deaths of the Supreme Magi sent here to destroy her and her offspring and the destruction of the prisons that could hold them, including the amulet that still hung around her neck and the emerald they now sought to obtain. Alivia wished only for freedom from her mother, the one who held her back from all she truly wanted to accomplish, instead carting the once mortal assassin as a go-to girl in her times of laziness. And Shadowcaster wanted his sweet revenge. Each desire had been mulled over, picked into until it consumed those whose gazes they bound to themselves.
It grew later still, and Shadowcaster spoke up for the first time since they had begun on their way. "I think we should stop, too. I need a rest."
"Certainly, my son," Motherdark pleasantly replied, "we shall stop here and camp for the night." Her gaze shifted to Alivia and she began in a more serious tone, "Go collect some wood for a fire. I need to talk with my son--alone."
Alivia begrudgingly complied, and sauntered off into the nearby wood to quickly collect her bounty and return, so not to give Motherdark too much time with the impressionable shadow mage. She wished that her son could have come along with her, but the assassin queen was still unable to defeat her mother alone. Motherdark knew this, and was trying to steal Shadowcaster away from her as best she knew how--through temptation and guile.
"Damn!" Alivia muttered to herself, for she knew the inconsistencies of the mortal mind. She herself had been subdued by such petty weights, and, in a way, she was still haunted by that lingering weakness. But Motherdark would not fool her, for Alivia knew the one she called mother all too well. The assassin queen knew that her mother's work on Shadowcaster was about to begin, and he would fall prey to it were she not able to reason him to her side again in time.
"My son..." she whispered regretfully as she left him alone with the one who would tear them apart. It scared her not that Motherdark was trying to drive them from each other, but that she was succeeding.

As I stood there alone in my smoldering wreakage I stopped to think about my actions. I took several deep breaths and looked around me. It was mostely silent except for the few scurying animals fleeing the sight. Even a few of the local Jub-Jubs peered in silent awe...or fear. The others, they probably wanted nothing to do with me after that display. I could just see their faces. Dervol was already critical of me and Kaylianna, I would never want to hurt her. I suppose it will take the eyes off of Gorman though. I decided not to even look back. I would have to redeem myself first. I would claim the Zypher's Emerald and than return to my friends. I just hoped they would manage.
As I continued forward to the edge of the forest I thought I saw light in the corner of my eye. Turning around I saw somthing flash brightly and than fade away. Probably Vadskye useing a locater spell of some sort. Not wanting to be found I ran faster past the trees and mushrooms nearing my destination. In my excitment I did not look where I was stepping, a mistake I would soon regret...
"That Cloud formation, I'm close..eh? What is..."
I had stepped on one of the larger mushrooms of which the forest was famed for. In a quick defensive responce it shot out a dusty powder making me sneeze several times before the air cleared.
"AhhhhHAhhuhCHOOO! Utchoooo! Ohhhh...what...No, can't dawdle. I must continue."
Surprisingly I felt fine. I thought the stories must have been exagerated tales and nothing more. Little did I know poison was slowly making it's way through my body.
I continued at the same pace, this time watching the forest floor in front of me. In only an hours time I reached the edge of the Shroomerish forest onto a road that bordered the once New Mahogany. In quite an unusual change of pace it began to rain which quickly turned into a downpour. In the back of my mind I knew what was responsible for that yet I couldn't figure how a crystal controling the wind could grow so powerful to create rain. Than I saw it. What I thought was simply a cloud formation swirled together twisting itself to the ground...

In the woods...
Ilyria wandered about aimlessly through the forest, brushing aside branches and stepping warily over mushrooms while looking peerlessly around her to make sure no one was around. No magi were anywhere nearby, though, and she had lost interest in the search long ago. Now that Motherdark was not there with each of her offspring to force them into compliance, she was sure each of her brothers and sisters were losing their drives as well, unless of course the magi had been found. She doubted it, for the lack of leads and clues as to where the magi had gone would lead them nowhere, but she could not return to the edge of the wood quite yet. Mother might be waiting.
At first, Ilyria had looked up to her mother, fearing her power and revering the control she held over her children, but that respect waned as her mother's control turned into tyranny and she drove each of her children to hate her. Motherdark's stubborn reign was, in fact, what had led to Ilyria's imprisonment in the first War between the Forsaken Ones and the Supreme Magi of old. It was why they had lost.
"Some winters never seem to end, do they?"
Ilyria was alone on the desolate plain, speaking to herself in the calm before the storm. The Forsaken Ones were making one last stand against those accursed magi who had studied them so extensively, those who would fight against the future rulers of the world, those who it now seemed would succeed. The magi had known nothing of the new assassin queen they had only recently recruited into their ranks when she first joined, but Alivia remained unwarned about the gems and had already fallen prey to the Master Emerald that now held three of her siblings as well. "Some team we've become," she continued to herself.
"You promised us immortality, mother! You said we were unstoppable, that we would rule the world. You had us all convinced that times like these would never come, but you were wrong," she fell to her knees and pounded the ground in frustration. "You were wrong!"
The wind whipped around her as she lay there, motionless, fretting over what could have been. The magi had been given too much time to prepare, and now it was over for the Forsaken Ones. Ilyria stood and shouted into the night, hoping that her mother would hear here but knowing she wouldn't. She would be alone until another night had passed.
A sleepless night followed, and Motherdark was soon by to pick up her remaining child in preparation for the battle ahead. The magi had already alerted the guardians, who stood at watch from the four towers of the elements that surrounded the Tower of the Supreme Magi, ready to steadily drain the strength from their attackers. Those four towers were the targets, the jewels were what needed to be lost for this battle to succeed, but that would not be easy. An army of Supreme Magi stood in their way, fodder, yes, but each Forsaken One would soon be captured if they were held off long enough.
"This cannot happen!" Motherdark shouted, almost in exasperation, as she explained what all her children already knew. "Four of us have already fallen, it is true, but there is a way to get them back. We need that emerald, but we must first destroy those who would destroy us. These magi must die!"
Ilyria shouted along with the remaining Forsakens, but her heart was not in this fight. She could only do so much against the new female recruits into the Royal Order, and her usefulness waned with each new woman that entered their ranks. She almost didn't want to go out and fight, but Mother would have no part in retreat, as she saw it. Instead, she chose to lead her daughter, and the rest of her kin, to defeat.
Just then, Ilyria heard a faint rustling in the brush nearby, and readied her weapon as her brother emerged from the trees. As she saw who it was, she lowered her defenses and greeted the elementalist.
"Ba'althinor! You're alright?! I thought..."
"No, I am not dead, but Mother is at my hand. Now we need not worry about her meddling in our business anymore, just like we all always wanted," he paused and looked behind him, motioning for Ilyria to travel in that direction. "Go back to the clearing where Mother's ashes now stand, I will gather the others and meet you there. We need to discuss what to do now that Motherdark isn't around to shove orders down our throats anymore."
Ilyria nodded slowly and began to stiffly follow her brother's orders, stifled by a mixed reaction to her mother's demise. Their ranks were now fewer, but the rest were also free. Looking down at her hands, which slowly clenched into fists, she twisted her face into a determined grin and struck out through the brush. Perhaps Mother's death would be exactly what they needed after all.
OOC: I think, to get this meeting started, all involved should do a post that leads their character to the clearing where we are planning to meet, then we can get started. Hopefully this adds a bit of direction and activity to the thread, now that people know where they should be headed.
(12/22)
Oh, and also, I took a few liberties with Ilyria's storyline, because her finding out about her mother's death was all part of the confusion. Perhaps if we defined some cut-off point for both the Forsaken Ones' and the Magi's storylines, people would have some idea of what to post. Are we all agreed?

"My son, may I call you that?" Motherdark asked the shadow mage, who nodded reluctantly. She continued, "Now listen carefully. I can help you in your quest to avenge your lost love, but you must first do something for me."
Shadowcaster tensed, as he knew what was about to be asked of him; he prayed he was wrong, but knew he wasn't.
"Your mother is a detriment to both you and me now, and she is not fit to live any longer than she has. If you are able to deceive her into powerlessness so that I may do away with her, then I will see you worthy of a Forsaken's power and you will join our ranks in her place. You will be immortal, and the time mage will have no choice but to bow to your superior power as you rend the life from his wretched heart."
Shadowcaster sat, wondering which meant more to him now. He had a chance to belong again, with Alivia. Those "weak mortal coils" that bound her to her distant son were the ties that caused the shadow mage to hesitate. Never before had he encountered such opposition to his pursuit of vengeance, but his love for Alivia, one that she returned, meant such a great deal to him. He would not be able to finish his friend if he remained with Alivia, and his chance at revenge would slip away if Shadowcaster allowed old friends to give way to new ones. He was unsure, for the first time in so long, he did not know which path he wanted to take. Motherdark cared not for the shadow mage, she only wanted another obedient slave to order against those who had revolted, but the offer of power was still tempting nonetheless.
"I-I'll have to sleep on it," he began unwarily, and it was clear that he had ruffled Motherdark's feathers.
"Fine, but this offer expires tomorrow night. Once the clock strikes midnight--no, let's make it eight, midnight is so cliché--your dreams will be gone, and I will rend both you and your mother useless."
Her infuriated tone died quickly, and she concluded in her kind, smarmy tone she had begun with. "Choose wisely," she said, and retreated into the trees.
Caught in the jaws of dilemma, Shadowcaster sat warily and thought hard about what Motherdark had said. Alivia had to know of the deal, but he knew that Motherdark was always watching from the darkness, waiting to see how the shadow mage would decide. There was no way to deceive or lie his way out of this one; Shadowcaster would have to wait.
After a while, Alivia returned with a large bundle of firewood, obviously angered at the assignment of menial labor. Her submission to Motherdark led Shadowcaster to believe that their "taskmaster" could easily defeat them both, if she so desired, as such was promised should Shadowcaster choose to ally against her. He watched as Alivia dropped the firewood and came over to sit near her son. After a long silence, she began:
"So, what did Motherdark say to you?"
Another dilemma. Should he tell Alivia the truth and get her side, exposing his uncertainty to the lurking Motherdark? Or should he lie to her, and remain likely to wade through this decision until time ran out on the deal. He decided to go for the input, and told her everything he had heard. All except for one detail.
"She gave me a deal. If we were to ally with Motherdark against her rebellious children, she would grant me the power of a Forsaken One and we would be united in power, you and I. But if we do not, she will kill us on the spot."
"She would try, but she could expect a fight from us, that's for sure. Maybe we could escape to the others and join with them to overthrow her. Surely all our powers combined could defeat her."
"But what about me, mother? Am I to just stand idly by while you fight all my battles? As I stand now, I'm nothing, as insignificant as the termites that will gather on that firewood as we sleep. You can't protect me forever."
"Yes I can, I'll protect you from that vile woman for as long as it takes, but if you crawl to her for power now, you'll be nothing more than a pawn. Don't you get it? She doesn't want allies, she wants slaves. We are not meant to be slaves. All of us may be forsaken, but that doesn't mean we cannot band together in freedom to fight the light of this world. Why do you think we all despise Mother so?"
Shadowcaster lowered his head, "I know, mother, I know." He glanced over to the trees nearby and saw Motherdark watching, but she soon faded into the trees. Shadowcaster now knew she was watching, and said not what he thought out of fear. "...but we cannot let hatred govern who we are."
"Nor can we let fear, my son." She placed her hand under the shadow mage's chin and pulled his gaze gently to hers. "Nor can we let fear."
Shadowcaster looked into Alivia's eyes. She genuinely cared for him, a rarity in this time. The only other person he had seen look at him like that was the very one he was trying to kill. The one he pursued cared enough to confront the shadow mage, even in danger to himself, in hopes that he might restore his friend to the person he had cherished so long ago.
But power still dangled in front of the shadow mage, and with it, he was convinced that all his problems would be solved, just so long as no one existed to stifle him, as Motherdark was doing now. He needed no friends so long as he stood at the top. At the top, where he had hoped to be for too long. This was his only chance. Could he let it go?
After a long while, Shadowcaster looked up at his mother and gave his answer.
"I'll have to sleep on it."

I looked down at myself and then at Vadskye.
'Clothes are easy....now'
Calling a little bit of power to me I was instantly clothed in soft green leather and white tiger skin, trimmed in silver. I watched the shock on their faces. This kind of power had been beyond the ol Dean.
But not now....
'The first thing we need to do is retrieve the weapons of Power. I know where they are. I can feel their pull on my soul.
They rise up from their hidden places as the sense the evil of the Forsaken Ones that they once fought.
The closest one is to the north.
We shall go there and collect it, and maybe Mighty Mage if we find him'.
Kaylianna's face brightened as I said that. In my new heightened sense of awareness I gathered that she was falling in love with him.
Little did she know that if I had him in front of me that I'd be hard pressed not to blister his hide where he stood.
Running off in an infantile rage, neglecting his duties.
Even in the void I hadn't neglected my duties.....but not yet.
I wasn't ready to face those memories yet. Some of them were too painful.
Waving a hand I summoned griffins enough for everyone but me to ride.
'Where's your mount?' asked Dervol. 'You're not leaving are you?'
'No' I said. 'But I have a better way to travel'.
Feeling the subtle twist in my mind that allowed me to change I became a Fairy Dragon. Much information had been given to me in the void, I would need it all to defeat these Forsaken spawn.
Beating my wings I rose into the air.
Follow me quickly I sent to the others, before wheeling around and heading north like an arrow, tuned to the Staff of the Clouds like an arrow

Vadskye mounted his steed and took off, followed closely by the others. When Deimos came close, riding with Kaylianna, he took the time to respond.
Vadskye: "Yes, but that was an accident... I don't doubt that something odd happened to him, but neither do I doubt that he remains on our side."
Inwardly, Vadskye was still reeling from the experience. The first thing he could think of after being dead was that we needed to find the jewels? No "I'm alive!" or any expression of emotion, but just a reminder of their duty? Vadskye would have to think about that. Maybe MM would know something about Dean when they found him... In the meantime they would just have to trust Dean.

I looked at the Magog.
I had forgotten how everyone had always shunted him off to the side and thought him unimportant. Looking at him with my new viewpoint I could see just how useful he was.
That's not a tale for telling now my little friend, not when we're flying and supposed to be on the lookout for signs that the Staff of the Clouds is near, and also for MM. It's a very long story, and would take more than one sitting to tell it all.
I said no more and continued to scan the horizon for signs of a storm, high winds, anything. I could feel it's energy ahead of me, diffused into the air like salt in water, but it was too widespread. I couldn't get a fix. Perhaps it was my dragon form interfering with my intuition but I couldn't help that now.
Suddenly I felt it...the....taste of the magic, the resonance in my body grew stronger and I let myself glide, orienting myself in the air like a needle of a compass until I knew that it was ahead.
This way I sent to everyone, and flew on....
