I really like the town look, archer is also very nice, but angel - no... They should have kept it male.

Longtime lurking now back with a whisper!
Well The artpieces are awesome, and as such the united apriciation of them is difficult to turn into constructive feedback!
What i find most important artwise is consistence!
And as it is here I can hardly imagine those 5 styles in the same game and certainly not on the same screen map levels. But this is as I understand not the important part now. So here is my comments on each
I would simply love a Land map with elements keept in style like the alkymist fabric.
Reasoable classick cartoon style. Very usefull when surviving a map for information.
If to detailed and flashy is taking a way the easy overlook and spoiling the experience of reading a military road map i like so much in turned based games!
Heroes 2 certainly had its most flashy beauty in the city map. And while detail level increased in next versions, artwise the experience didn't catch up! (though H3 was still quite enjoyable).
The ocean/bridge picture would be an interesting new direction for a city map. I don't really see the style fits on a battlemap, thoug it might work on the overland map!
The Angel! Now its nice if such flashy quality makes into a relevant area of the game! But wich one? To detailed and flashy for a battlemap, certainly not belonging on the overland map either. But not that far away from being ready for a battlemap
the lance Knight feels absolute right for a small animation on the overlandmap and on the battlemap as well
The Archer is perfect as big but as a small figure on a map or in a battle its detailed level and shades are simply making it to blury!

archangel
First off, aesthetically speaking, I like the picture a lot!
I also want to cast another vote for cartoonish / semi-cartoonish figures. IMO, well done artsy animation is more individual and stylish than realistic animation. Cartooned figures like the archangel and the archer in the other thread have more of a "look" than the half-baked H4 figures. Also, while I wouldn't care for an entirely anime approach, I don't see why elements of both anime and western cartooning can't be incorporated. Mixing styles could make a more unique look, right?
Random thoughts on the angel in particular:
According to traditional escatology, angels are sexless. I think making the angel figures androgynous would be a good thing. Maybe that was the attempt with this pic, although the skirt does give a feminine impression. (It's the folds at the waist, IMO; they resemble an 18th-19th century woman's dress.) The floating, feetless look is good, and those hanging things along the hem are cool. The heavy armor and overblown sword have already been remarked on (what's s/he gonna do with that thing, steer a ship? ). Hood over face: good in theory, as hiding the eyes eliminates some gender-cues and lends an unapproachable aura due to lack of eye contact. Bad in practice, though, because concealing one's face, particularly in that fashion, tends to be the sign of a shady character in fantasy. In H3 SoD, Sandro's got his hood over his eyes, as do the undead acolytes in Warcraft 3. Maybe a face of light, a la the zealots in H3, would give the same untouchable-ness without the conflict of conventions? Well-detailed clothing could override the lack of style for a light being -- the fur trim and Arabic looking calligraphy along the armor already go along those lines.
The halo is just gorgeous and could look truly spectacular in 3D. I like the multifaith approach, too, what with the cross brooch, star-of-David halo, and Arabic armor decor.
Just my 2 cents. Oh, and that's USA currency, BTW, 'cuz that's where I live.
