first of all ... I think Ubisoft needs a heads-up on what Heroes of might and magic series stood for ---- it's a STRATEGY game, not some comic book - look at those characters, they look silly on the battlefield (archangel doing her makeup)!
Don't get me wrong, pictures look nice and all, but they're not fit for heroes, it's more of a snow white and the 7 dwarves story ( archangel - snow white, cavalier - the prince, castle of evil stepmother, the 7 dwarves' cottage), I know you can do better than that !
Not here to criticize or blame anyone, but i think those pictures wouldn't even have fitted heroes 1 which was more "cartoon"-based with those big units.

Ok got to say I love that AA picture!

I mean I hope that is what you might be able to get your heroe to look like on the sidelines, but for an actual unit I think it's way to overboard.  I mean the scale for that picture is way to big, and it wouldn't look as good scaled down.

People try to remeber that it's only concept art. I'm 100% certain that when the archangel will be made a 3D model, she'd look perfect, much better than the ugly hommIV archangel. Change is a good thing you know...

on the other hand the adventure map building look great.

But the cavalier, it's too well drawn,it looks unique like a hero, in fact it should be tens like him in a fight.

Loyalty can sometimes cloud reality

Well almost every single loyal Heroes fan is going to notice right away that these pics lack a very roman catholic-goth influence. These pics resemble an artist obviously influenced by hints of disney and japanese anime. It is my humble opinion that the heroes genre was built on an enriched roman catholic style gothic art.It is important to also note: while that is what the heroes genre was built on, it does not detract from these other types of very popular styles of art.The question is: What will this kind of change bring to the heroes community?I would like to point out that there are other similar communities that might be brought into the heroes community if they keep this particular style of art. Some of these other communities might be Final Fantasy 7 fans, gothic disney fans, and gothic anime fans.Does this mean the loyal historically roman catholic style goth art fans might be tempted to abandon the heroes cause?Absolutely not.But it does suggest that ubisoft will be hearing from that loyal and faithful segment of the already in-place heroes gaming community that has come to love a thickly enriched gothic style of art that is heavily influenced by roman catholicism.I should also point out that I have never seen any company or artist that was able to blend roman catholic art with disney and anime.(i'm fully aware of disney's the hunchback of notre dame)The two distinguishing notable characteristics that seperate disney and anime from roman catholic goth art are the eyes of the characters and comic book like hair that seems to be unaffected by gravity or dominant and recessive genes.Whereas the true heroes fan will be accustomed to a very realistic face with realistic facial features the anime and disney fans will be accustomed to an enlarged pair of eyes that accentuate facial expressions and a variety of very colorful hairstyles that will defy gravity.Where do we go from here?Sometimes change is difficult but I for one shall not stop playing our historically familiar heroes games while trying to stay open to new options.

Not really. You are thinking of H3. The rest of the games were all done in a cartoonish style, and the only gothic parts of it were the undead towns (of which we are yet to see concept art).

considering those concept art pictures, i wonder what a dragon would have to look like.

i don't really know how many times i have heard this kind of statement. i could speculate that it might perhaps be about 50 times. i guess about 10 times for venom spawn and about 10 times for homm4 vampire 3d-rendered models (those statements were about vamp and spawn looking a lot better when scaled down, though), etc. i have never believed in such statements and imho practice has shown that i had every reason not to believe in them.

if this concept art model was used, i don't see any reasonable way to make it look like a traditional homm angel nor a gothic art style angel nor even any style mythologically correct angel. imho it's no use even to criticise the particular piece of concept art from that point of view. the developers are just thinking in a totally different direction.

to me it looks like they think that they can do better than all the other anime style games on the market or that they want to meet the present trends on the market that favour anime style.

total agreement, even disney style is better unmixed.

about final fantasy and homm fans joining into one community i would be a lot more skeptical, though. even homm4 was too much for the homm playing people i have played with or just met accidentally and found that they play homm and asked: 'do you also play homm4?'

to me the question is rather: will a turn based game with more or less homm rules attract final fantasy players? what do they expect to gain by calling the game homm?

Remember guys this is a 1st run of concept art and this is a new thing for them they have not did Heroes before.  None of these are set in stone and this is just an idea for the graphics artists to work with.  This is also why they want fans imput but please be nice about it.  Remeber they don't even have to ask they already owne heroes .

agreed.

pictures doesnt have to be super flashy but FFS its a strategy game we play... whats next, you cant kill your opponents because "blood is bad" and opponent only gets hurt and surrenders?

Please add some more fantasy concept and remove the disney one...

OK what is the big deal with an angel being a female?!?!

You guys need to realize they are trying to grab feamles attention to this game as well as making a refreshing game to bring players back, cause we all know H4 sucked bad.

Like Gan said this is nothing set in stone, and you know they do not have to ask us our opinion on this since they own Homm series not us. So please try and be a little optomistic and polite, I mean I know it ain't in y'alls nature but atleast try. Try and be polite about your responces even if they are against the photos. Just don't be so mean about it.

Also here is the archers preview

Hi all,

i must say that i really like theses pics. Very high quality, nice art and u can easily see the main theme.

The comic style is ok in my eyes. A thing that could be improved would be that it should little darker...more like the middle ages..were most of the mythologies that are behind heroes have their origin place.

Maybe im not modern enough, but a thing that heroes really shouldnt have is "manga style", although im a fan of some new manga cinema movies (not tv manga).

For example the female archangel looks very good, but the sword looks more like a manga elememt and therefore ruins the pic.

Dont get me wrong, i really like the new style.. i take every bet that it  was from a french artist, and i hope i will see even more of these thrilling eyecatchers.

You can really see that Ubisoft puts love in this game, and thats why im looking forward to H5 in 2005!!

Someone mentioned disciples graphics

Thats what I call artwork, Disciples II has some of the best creature art I've ever seen.  That would be a dream come true to see that kind of stuff for Homm5.  This to me, I agree, looks very much like the usual mainstream Japanese RPG look.
