The Saga of Glade River Valley
You wake up in the middle of the night during a thunder storm. Your brother has is gone and left a note saying that he has gone and will be back soon. You hear a scream. It's your brother. He stumbles out of the woods to the doorstep and collapses.
"Get out of here! They will kill you!" says your brother. "They'll be here in a few minutes. I managed to slip away only from the darkness and noisyness of the night. But they have been following me for only a couple minutes."
Several Goblins come sprinting out of the woods.
"RUN!" yells your brother.
Unable to take anything for the road, you flee into the woods and get shot by an arrow in the arm. You lose them in the storm and find yourself lost in the woods. By morning, you have found the Glade River and 2 days later have travelled upstream to the nearest town. Fortunately, you happened to leave your money in your pocket from the day before your brother's death.
In the town you meet some other familiar people who have experienced something similar to what happened to you. Apparently your brother was part of some righteous guild that was trying to fight a band of raiders. One of them was part of this guild and managed to escape. After they had slotared the group of rogues, a mage showed up. The mage killed half of the party with a few fireballs in a matter of seconds and proceeded to summon several monsters including some goblins. The mage cast hold spells on some other members of the guild. Your brother and the man giving you this information were the only ones to escape. However, your brother was hit in the back with an arrow mortally wounding him. That's when you saw him come out of the woods.
"What's your name?" you asked. "Did you know my brother well?"
"I am RedSoxFan3 and I had just joined the guild a week ago today. I barely knew your brother. I lost my sister that night as well. So I too am out for vengeance."
"Did this mage say anything?"
"He said something about some magical item. And that your brother had it."
You quickly realize what he is talking about. Your brother has had it buried in the backyard for safe keeping for over a year now. You never knew what it was, but you know that you shouldn't tell anyone of it. Unsure whether to trust RSF or not, you don't mention it. However, you decide to join up with him to find the mage that killed your brother.

OOC: I'll just place myself in the story as the main character since I signed up first.
I decided to stop by the local tavern and see if I could hear some rumors about the mage. While I slept I had a dream that told me the exact location and name of the object, the Golden Mana Emblem. When I awoke, I found I could heal myself with a spell. We set out the next day, based on some clues I found that he resided near the Gilded Forest to the east.

Talks to Vadskye. Don't you think we should stop off and get some equipment? I don't know about you but I'm going the Local Smithy before I go anywhere. The mage destroyed all of my armor in battle. Before we confront the mage, we should make sure that we are using magical equipment so he can't destroy it. Although we don't have the money at the moment to purchase such materials it would be a good idea in the future.
OOC: An example of Magical Equipment would be Short Sword +1. It gets the +1 bonus from a magical enchantment. This is the kind of equipment that is invulnerable to his equipment destroying spell.
Heads to the Local Smithy
OOC: There is a list of buildings in the area. This includes a Smithy and an Inn of the town where the main character flees to at the beginning of the thread.

Enters the shop with Vadskye and finds the shopkeep arguing with a customer over how much an item should cost. Both of them are quite angry so we decide to stay out of the way at the door. They don't notice us enter. The customer finally says that he will not buy it at that price and the shopkeep goes to put the item away. While his back is turned the customer pulls out a mace.
"LOOK OUT!" I yelled.
The shopkeep gets out of the way just in time. He would have been knocked out cold. I begin casting the sleep spell on the customer. Within seconds he falls to the floor.
"Get him quick he won't be asleep for long!" I shouted after casting the spell. With no weapons I stay out of the fight. The shopkeep has barely enough time to grab a weapon. After about a minute the shopkeep has been injured and the customer is dead. I cast Cure Light Wounds on the shopkeep.
"Thank you very much! If you weren't there to help I don't know if I'd still be alive right now. I'd like to repay you with something. You can take any items from this assassin and maybe we could work out something from my shop. It's hard times right now, so I won't be able to give much. Oh wait. If you give me a day I could improve some of this assassin's equipment. It won't cost me hardly anything and you'd get some excellent equipment."
Party gains 400 experience.

Half an hour later, Mordikai runs into the tavern and spots the dwarf at the bar. Approaching him, the ranger says, "Sorry I'm late. I was off purchasing some equipment for this little 'job' and some half-wit at the shop couldn't afford what he wanted and threw a tantrum, attacking the shopkeeper. I almost intervened, because no shopkeeper means no equipment for me, but an elf and a half-elf aided the shopkeep, so I went back to browsing the shelves. However, when I was ready to buy the equipment, the shopkeeper was still attending to those two who saved him. Can't really blame him, but it took a rather long while before his attentions turned to me. I came as quickly as I could."

"Thanks." *picks up the mace and looks at it* "Pretty good quality, but I don't really like maces. D'you want it?" *RSF shakes his head* "Okay, I guess we'll sell it. Ooh, nice dagger. That's mine." *sighs* "No more booty. Okay, let's see what you have to sell." *looks at the list* "Okay, I'll take a short sword, 60 arrows and how about some splint mail... What's this? No bows but you sell arrows? Confusing. All right, 111gp? Deal." *hands over the gold* "Okay, now I've got 69gp left. I'm ready." *heads out the door* "To the Gilded Forest!"

"Hey man! We are looking for some job by here. Just men stuff: killing. Could you tell us someone who wants to hire mercenaries?"
"There've been some trouble in the woods in these last few days. People say that some guys of a guild were killed. Apparently one of them survived. He was here until a few minutes ago. He was saying something about armor, maybe he is at the blacksmith."
"Thanks. I will have a lot there."

The shopkeep is confused. Suddenly, he realizes that he didn't show them his selection of bows.
"Wait I have bows!" yells the shopkeep. Vadskye comes back into the shop.
"You do? Where?" Shopkeep pulls out a short bow. Here you can have this unless you'd like a long bow which I could give you for half price. It's the least I can do.
RSF: I'll get a morning star and a Studded Leather Armor. And I guess I'll get a sling and 80 bullets.
Pays the 115 gold. (15 gold left)
A dwarf and a ranger walk into the Smithy. The ranger calls out asking who the member of the guild is that was attacked by goblins.
Suspicious of the two men, RSF gives a neutral response.
"As far as I know it was a powerful mage that attacked. The goblins were merely summoned. He cast a spell that disintegrated all non-magical weapons and armor. And killed half the party with fireballs. Why do you seek this man?"
OOC: Sorry about that. I didn't realize that I did put in bows. I'll update that now.
btw, Vadskye unless you bought hundreds of arrows, you should have only spent like 108 gold.

OOC: Thanks RSF, I redid the math and edited my post. BTW, I noticed on your list of items that Short Bows were listed as blunt. Also, shouldn't the Ranger be able to use bows?

OOC: I only have 1 proficiency point in missile, so it's more cost effective to get the morning star. Plus you wanted the bow more anyway. And yes Rangers can use the bow. In the weapons list Rangers and Paladins are considered Fighters. Bards are considered Thieves. Druids are considered Clerics. We should wait for Shadowcaster and Athimus to reply. If they don't soon, then they can catch up with us to talk. Tomorrow we're setting out for Gilded Forest. At this point in the game we can test out how combat will work. I will come up with an option for auto-combat which I will post in the OOC Thread.

"They were looking for something?" the human asked as he and the dwarf exchanged glances. "Any idea what it was?"
EDIT (OOC): Guess there is no charm. I'll change the last part.
Before either could answer, the ranger shot a glance over to the shopkeeper.
"What about you? You know anything about this mage that killed the guild members in the forest?"
The man denied he knew anything, so Mordikai turned back to Vadskye and waited for an answer to his question, trying to hold in his frustration.
Perhaps he was a bit too impatient for his own good.

"Blam!" As the tavern door slammed open, a tall human figure stepped into the doorway, his darkgreen cloak dripping with rain. With a taxing look in his tired bloodshot eyes he scanned the tavern for a long moment, then, fixing his eyes on a seat in the darkest most silent corner of the tavern he stepped over the porch, the door closing with a softer slam behind him. Walking slowly over to the side of the bar, Tajeleh threw back the hood of his thick cloak revealing a face with soft but tormented traits, a sadness in his eyes too big for words... Raising one finger towards the barkeeper, Tajeleh took off his cloak, lay down a quiver of arrows and a composite longbow of respectable quality on the table closest to him, quietly covering them with his cloak.
Brushing his few days old beard with the palm of his hand, Tajeleh took some time to have a better look at the humble tavern and its visitors. "A dwarf...", he muttered silently after a long slow look. What a rag tag bunch... and what a cheerful company as well, he thought sarcastically. At least he was dry now and the group that had been hunting him down for the last few days would certainly not come in here to kill him. Hmm that man over there, he realized frowning in a hostile way, the one with the elven looks... he looked as if he might be a wizard. "magic... if there's anything I hate it's magic...", Tajeleh whispered out loud slowly. Instinctively reaching out for his short sword, he discovered it was not longer there and growled softly "grrr..." shaking his head trying to get rid of the memories of the past few days. "No more deaths...", he thought, closing his eyes for a moment, his face twisted by inner pain.
Now where did the damn barman go? Dropping his fist on the bar, the sound drawing more unwanted attention than he'd wanted, Tajeleh split his broken lips in a painful grin, calling for the approaching barman in a rough, soft and tired voice "Ward! A cup of your most vicious wine please..."

Athimus: "The thing is gold. I don't accept anything else. I'm looking for a job with my partner. What we do, you may ask? We kill. I heard you're having problems with a few goblins."
RSF: "As I said before, the problem wasn't the goblins. They were summoned by a powerful mage."
Athimus: "Oh, boy. Not good." (turns to Mordikai) "You snow head! You havent said anything about mages. If I knew that I would bring more powerful weapons!"(Turns to RSF)"Anyway... looking for partners?"

I've noticed that you all are making "more beautiful" posts, in terms of vocabulary and description. I don't have a very good vocabulary, so it's kinda hard to me to write better posts. Or you could try to learn portuguese

I am certainly looking for partners. However I am not sure I can afford to buy new partners and neither can my partner. We emptied our pockets trying to restock. The mage is capable of destroying all non-magical weapons, so all of us will need to go pillaging for some better equipment before we even try to face the mage. I'd also recommend that we find some good protection from fire as well. Either that or we'd better get to him soon to disrupt his spell casting. I can only do so much healing. He cast several fireballs as well. Good thing I was standing next to a ditch...
Anyway I went off on a tangent...
Because of the fact that we currently have no money, I think it would be better that we negotiate payment after we have earned some gold from plundering. However I think that the first priority should be acquiring magical items. No gold will be divided until we all have at least a magical armor, weapon, and shield (if necessary).

Suggestion: For those who are playing RPG in a forum for the first time a request:
POST
We don't care if it is a bad idea, or even it doesn't have much sense. Post just to say: "Good morning!". The games/threads die if the people that should be playing just stops posting. We had another thread like this about a year ago, and it died because just two or three players were posting. The others just came by some times but were either shy or didn't know what to write. But in these cases the best thing to do is just say some words. It will keep your character in the history and show us that you (the real one) is "alive" and wants to keep playing.

The local smithy door is shoved open and a wiery ranger stumbles in. He is short of breath and is panting furiously. Suddenly he falls to the floor.
Shop keeper: Oh my, what happened to you young ranger?
Isildur: My name is Isildur. I was wandering in the forests when a fireball came zooming past my head. I turned to see a mage in a fancy robe. I pulled my composite long bow out and shot an arrow at him. It just deflected of him and then he broke my bow with a fireball. I tryed to run from him but he chased me through the forest.
The shop keeper then takes Isildur to a chair and gets him a drink.
Isildur: I am carrying with me my bow and 99 arrows. Can you fix my bow for me, i only have 15 gold though.
OOC: RSF who controls the shop keeper? I have 18 Charm so who works out how much discount and so forth?

OOC: Dragon Slayer, I am controlling the shopkeep and all non-member characters. I hope you don't mind if I make you say this one line.
Shopkeep: Oh I met some people who mentioned that everyone in their guild had died except for them. RedSoxFan3 and Erion Vadskye were their names.
Dragon Slayer: Really! Everyone died! This is horrible! I was just on my way to join them! Erion's older brother was a life-long friend of mine!
Shopkeep: Well if you're friends of those two then I'll just do it for free. Those two saved my life from some thief gone mad. He squabbled over prices and when I wouldn't give into his demands he tried to backstab me when I wasn't looking. I believe they left town about an hour ago. Why don't you just take this bow that's not broken and I'll repair yours later. Won't take me more than 20 minutes anyway by the looks of it. Looks like it just got some minor cracks and got bent from the heat.
And so the party of 6 sets off for the guilded forest...
After approxomately one hour outside of town, the party encounters 2 goblins.
First Round of Combat:
OOC: At this point I'm going to ask that everyone choose their primary weapon. If you want to use a ranged weapon, choose a melee weapon. If your character is low on HP, do you want to pull back and use a ranged weapon. I'm asking these questions, so I can possibly test out an auto-combat system that will make small tedious battles more fluid.
I was also wondering if I could have some help coming up with a monster list. I just need things like this:
Goblin:
Base Thac0: 19
HP: 10
Base Armor Class: 8
Equipment: Short Sword, Leather Armor
btw, this will be the discription for two encountered goblins.
