HoMM3 Creature Ratings
Well, probably everyone of us encountered at least ONCE a thread in which he\she was asked to say his\her opinions regarding which creatures are the best in Heroes 3 or which is the dream army for heroes 3.
Well anyone wondered what the game designers thought about these creature ratings? Better said, have you ever asked yourself how would the qualify certain creatures, which monsters they considered best etc, etc.???
If things go well, tomorrow I will bring you the game designer's creatures rating, which creatures they considered the best foir their level and which they considered the worst...
Till then I was wondering if any of you has his\her opinoin regarding this (what creature they consider stronger for every level).
Well utnil then farewell...
And don't ask me how do I know, I will tell you tomorrow. Although maybe some of you already know how I managed to find this info.

My opinions
==============
For the non-upgraded version:
1. Centaurs : AGREE - they are faster than pikemen and can be really sueful against
ranged opponents;
2. Pikeman: AGREE - they have the largest amount of HP among non-upgraded lvl 1
monsters and their attack\defense skill are among the best;
3. Skeletons: AGREE - I alwasy considered skeletons among the weakest lvl 1 creatures
but after reviewing their stats compared to the other's stats
I'd say they are not that weak. Only pikeman and centaurs are better;
4. Goblins: DISAGREE - IMO they should deserve to be under the trogs and the gnolls, but
but it seems that the game designers consider speed and cost more
important than attack\defense and hit points.
5. Troglodytes: DISAGREE - they should of been one level higher, just under skeletons;
Plus they have Blind immmunity.
6. Gnolls: AGREE;
7. Pixies: DISAGREE - I think THEY are the weakest creatures in the game (except the pessies);
8. Imps: AGREE;
9. Gremlins: DISAGREE - Pixies should be in their place.
For the upgraded versions:
1. Centaur Cpts: DISAGREE - look at their attack\defense stats and you will
notice that hlaberdiers are better in every field,except speed!
2. Halberdiers: DISAGREE - they should be the strongest upgraded creatures;
3. Sprites: DISAGREE - they may have that 'no-retaliation' ability, but they have the
smallest attack\defense among all lvl1 creatures;
4. Gnoll Marauders: AGREE - though THEY should be on the 3rd place;
5. Skeleton Warriors: AGREE - they have the best attack\defense among lvl 1 creatures
and the only down side is their damage...
6. Infernal Trogs: AGREE;
7. Hobgoblins: DISAGREE - IMO Master Gremlins should take this place, cause they have
the ranged attack;
8. Master Gremlins: DISAGREE;
9. Familiar: AGREE, definetly AGREE!
Other Notes:
- Best attack: Centaur Cpts, Halberdiers and Skeletons(6);
- Best Defense: Gnoll Marauders, Skeleton Warriors(6);
- Best Attack\Defense: Skeleton Warriors(6\6);
- Weakest Attack: Sprites(2);
- Weakest Defense: Sprites(2);
- Weakest Attack\Defense: Sprites(2\2);
- Largest amount of HP: Centaur Cpts & Halberdiers (10 HP);
- Smallest amount of HP: Sprites (3);
- The fastest creature: Sprites (9);
- The most expensive creature: Centaur Captains (90 gold);
- The cheapest: Sprites (30 gc);

My opinion
===========
The lists should look like this IMO:
1. Air El. 1. Storm El.
2. S. Gargoyles 2. O. Gargoyles
3. Lizardmen 3. Harpy Hags
4. Gogs 4. B. dwarves
5. Dwarves 5. Lizard Warriors
6. Harpies 6. Marksmen
7. Wolf Riders 7. Wolf Raiders
8. Walking dead 8. Magogs
9. Archers 9. Zombies
- I think the g. designers considered gogs and harpies waaay more valuable then they really are
and they underestimated Lizard Warriors and Battle Dwarves.

9. Orc Chieftains 8\4 20\5 14\165 2-5 -----> ranged (24)
Well what can you say about this lists? IMO Wraiths\Wights have nothing to do with the
first 7 monsters... Even Orcs are better than them, in my opinion.
And Dragon Flies are definetly, definetly, underestimated...
Other notes:
- The best attack: Cerberi and Evil Eyes (10);

9. Energy El. 12\8 35\8 10\400 4-6
Tsk, tsk. Magi on the first place in the no-upgraded version? That is weird.
And ogres on almost the LAST place, while the pathetic vampires rest on the
second place? Now that definetly sucks big time and it is weird nevertheless.
In the upgraded version Vampire Lords rule, which is perfectly normal. Greater
Basilisks come second... not bad. But Archamgi should be two positions
further down in the top, IMO.

9. Magma El. 11\11 40\6 8\500 6-10
Well, now what can YOU say about THIS??? I mean, who thought that the MIGHTY gorgons
would come only on place 5, outclassed by minotaur kings, or by power liches???
Hmm I dunno after what criteria the game designers judged the creatures, but I think
speed has something to do with it... And hey - Pit Lords as the best lvl 5 unit???
Not in my wildest dreams did I thought they'd get to be considered that powerful.
Although if we look at their stats carefully you can notice they are a little stronger
than others. But Minotaur Kings have a better Attack\defense and a better speed, HP and damage.
Why weren;t they elected as the best??? Was it becasue of havign no specialty, except positive
morale????
And if you look at the non-upgraded version, you can see genies as being in the top 3 strongest
creatures... Well they alos are kinda suspicious. Their damage is good , but they are
just too weak... in fighting. Whatever, this is what the game designers thought about them.
Maybe our opinions are wrong.

Ah finally! It seems that after going through all those levels, the game designers
finally managed to make a fair top 9... or at least 90% fair.
The only thing that bothers me is the fact that Wyvern Monarchs are considered
stronger than Cyclops Kings.. That does not sound like true to me.

Your judging creatures from thier stats are good, but you mustn't forget, that special abilities make them better, then others...

Once more - the ratings (the top 9 for each level) was not made by me!
They are the tops made by the NWC game designing team.
Where do I get that info from?
Well remember when you lok i the tavern and you see the best monster section??? Well I wanted to see which creatures are considered the best...
And that magma elemental is lt hunter... *lol* (ex-3DOer)
Although I don't see many of my kind around here

Comparing mighty moos and azures on 1vs1 is pointless. If you want a fair fight, compare them cost- or growthwise. (In which Moos trample azures ruthlessly)

I don't have any comments, i just did something related and didn't know where to put it.Here goes..
Critters sprecialities
Most of HoMM3 creatures have an unique feature called speciality.Some of those are widely known, but some still remain elusive even for more experienced players.I have made some tests to discover how the critters specialities really work.
Cavaliers/Champions-Jousting bonus=the basic ideea is that the further the unit, the greater the attack.for exemple when the attacker’s attack equals the defender’s defense, 1 champion will perform 20-25 dmg on another champion.But this is when they are face to face.With each hex the damage grows by +1.so on grass when attacking another champion at 10 hexes, my champ will deal 30-35 dmg.Also if hasted, the damage inceresses even more.
Archangels- ressurection=the resurection ability is widely known.Most people know that 1 AA can ressurect 100HP.So 1 AA can ressurect 10 pikemen.But when wearing the vial of lifeblood?or when aging comes into play?The AA ability relates strictly to the HP.So if for some reason the HP of a unit lowers or raises, the AA will rerssurect 100HP.(if a pikeman is aged he will have 5 HP, so the AA will ressurect 20 instead of 10)
Dwarves/Battle dwarves-magic resistance=they have 20/40 %magic resistance.Not much to say about that.
Dendroids-binding into place-the affected unit cannot move, but can attack adjacent units.Efect expires when the attacking dendroid stack dies or moves away.
Silver Pegasi-magic damper-increases spell cost with 2
Unicorn/war unicorns-blinding/aura of magic resistance-blinding lasts for 3 rounds(including the round in that was casted).About the aura of magic resistance you can find more from xarfax's oracle
Stone/Iron golems-reduced damage from spells=Spells make half damage on stone and a quarter damage on Iron golems.So 50/ 75% spell reduction.
magi/Arch magi-reduce spell cost by two.Arch magi attack deals full damage to enemies behind walls.No melee penalties
master genie-casts beneficial spells at spell power 6
Familiars-magic channel=After your opponet casts a spell, the familiars will drain an additional 1/5 from that spells cost and give it to you.This means for exemple that exp slow will cost him 6 sp and exp implosion 24.You’ll get 1 sp if he casts slow on you and 4 sp if he implodes.
Pit lords-demon summoning =demon hording was a hot subject for a long time.You can find all info here
Efreets Sultans-fire shield=I have made a lot of testing with this one and it lead me to one conclusion:The fireshield will deal aprox 1/4 from the damage performed by the attacker.here are some values;first number is the attacker's damage done to the efreeti and the second is the damage done by fire shield(12/3;89/18;37/9;62/16;73/18)
Basilkis/Greater basilkis-petrifying attack=the unit cannot move/attack for 3 rounds including the round in which the basilkis attack occurred,take 50% damage, unstoned when attacked.
Wivern monarch-poison=Lowers an attacked units HP by 1/10 per round and lasts for 3 rounds, so in the end it lowers the units life by 30%
Medusa queen-Stone gaze=Same effect as the basilkis attack
Scorpicore-Paralyze=same effect as medusa&basilkis
Zombies-disease=lowers the attack and defense to a unit by 2.Effect lasts for 3 rounds.
Wright-drain life=Each stack of wrights drains 2 sp from the opponent.7 stacks drain 14 sp/round
ogre magi-Can cast bloodlust spell on one ally per round at spell power 6, advanced level.
thunderbird-20% chance for thunderbolt spell which does 10 damage per each thunderbird to target.
ciclops king-can attack seige walls at advanced ballistics level.
behemoth/Ancient behemoth-target is able to use only 60%/20% of its defence when attacked by (ancient) behemoth.
hope this helps

This is my favourit creatures
Lvl will be sprites but mostly conflux not allowed so it will be Master greamlins. Master gremlins is stronger then u think u will have about 50-100 of them day 1-2 so they are very strong.
Lvl 2 creatures will be Archers from castle they are great
Lvl 3 creatures Grand elfes ofcaurse they are very strong
Lvl 4 will be Vimpires but they not allowed either so probably i will go for Rampard They are very fast and very usefull week 1 and 2
Lvl 5 will be Thunder birds or if it is long game i like dendroids about week 4-6 they are just killing everything Also i hate to fight against mighty gorgons so i think they are strongest.
Lvl 6 will be Nagas They can kill huge army with slow or haste.
Lvl 7 will be Archidewills even i dont play a lot for them but i love fact that enemy do not attack them back
This is what i love more but if u know how to work with creature anyone could be as powerfull as everyotherIt all depend who do u play most.
