Titan costs 5000 gold = 40 to 60 damage lets do the math.
5000 gold = 11 arch mage = 77 to 99 damage
5000 gold = 125 master gremlins = 125 to 250 damage
5000 gold = 4 cyclops king = 64 to 80 damage
5000 gold = 30 orc cheiftains = 60 to 150 damage
5000 gold = 22 grand elves = 66 to 110 damage
5000 gold = 8 power liches = 88 to 120 damage
5000 gold = 28 magogs = 56 to 112 damage
5000 gold = 38 lizard warriors = 76 to 114 damage
5000 gold = 15 medusa queens = 90 to 120 damage
5000 gold = 17 evileyes = 51 to 85 damage
5000 gold = 11 zealots = 110 to 132 damage
5000 gold = 33 marksmen = 66 to 99 damage
5000 gold = 18 storm elementals = 36 to 144 damage
5000 gold = 13 ice elementals = 39 to 91 damage
5000 gold = 6 enchanters = 84 damage
5000 gold = 12 sharpshooters = 96 to 120 damage
Not only does this prove what I have long suspected, that master gremlins are in fact the best shooter, but that titans give you the least bang for the buck in the game.
Other aspects of creatures besides cost might be midigating factors when choosing your best. But for me hordes of gremlins with timely haste seem to always do the job.

The Master Gremlins are one of my favorites, but Titans are able to withstand a lot of punishment. The Master Gremlins will vanish before your eyes!

yep not only damage done is important, extra's r also important. I made a rather extended list of best units per lvl and came up wif this:
Best 3 lvl 1: skels, pixies, centaurs (masta grems 4th)
Best 3 lvl 2: Strom-els, wolf riders, archers (Lizards 5th, gogs 6th)
Best 3 lvl 3: elves, golems, orcs (water-els & evil eyes combined 7th)
Best 3 lvl 4: vamps, medusa, pegasi (magi 6th)
Best 3 lvl 5: gorgons, liches, genies (zealots 4th)
Best 3 lvl 6: mind-els, nagas, unicorns (cyclops 7th)
Best 3 lvl 7: Phoenix, blacks, golds (Titans 7th)
I made 4 catagories: costs dived by damage, specials, speed and Health & Att+Def
e.g. Ogre mage: cst/dam 44, specials -5 (cast bloodlust), speed +8 (they r slow), Health & Att+Def -14 (they r above the average 4th lvl units) makes 37, a 7th place.

Mmm, accually I don't agree with any of you
My absolute favourite creatures are Zealots and Archangels, that's why I always choose that town. Zealots are godd both at range and handtohand attacks
But hey, that's my opinion

Where is the Crusador on that list? It should at least be behing the Vampire Lords. Well, to each their own...
Don't say Titans are the best! It's easy to choose them because they are the strongest. And for that list that puts Gremlins at the top: You forgot Attack and Defense power. Attack increases your units damage 5% for every number it is higher than your enemies unit's defense. Defense works the same way but is only 2.5% Master Gremlins have what? 1 Attack and Titans have about 20 Defense? That would reduce the Damage by just under 50%!!!
I say the most useful are the Great Elves and Cyclopses. You need the Cyclopses in Stronghold because the Orcs suck, and Elves are the only shooter in the entire Rampart, besides being good.
On a side note, even though Rampart is awesome, anyone else notice it sucks at siege attacks? Those elves fall like flies to the Parapets!!!!!

Yeah, the lists need to incorporate four dif things to me; Damage done, Attack/Defense, and #'s of production per week x HP's. Other things important also, but depend on too many variables, for instance Black's magic resistance could be good in some situation, extremely bad in another, etc...
From my experience I have to say Titan's best shooter, followed by Power Liches, then Grand Elves, then Storm Elementals, then probably Cyclops or Master Gremlins. Sharpshooters sure, would be on that list, but rare game where they are enabled.
HP's enable Titans to outlast most other shooters so they win. Power Liches damage compared to growth is very good and also the Death Cloud- better than Grand Elves if you think about it. Death Cloud can hit 6 enemy creatures maximum. Hardly ever gets that many, but very often gets 2 or 3 creatures. Compared Grand Elf gets only two attacks.
MG's have high number's and high damage, but HP's per # and very low Attack/Defense lower their value.

so you would buy 125 master grems or 11 magi before you buy that titan huh...master grems dont do 125-250, they do maybe 50 damage cuz they got no attack skill, and the titan doesnt do 40-60, it does 70 or 80...

Best shooter in the game ? Isn¡¦t it obvious that the mighty titan has already claimed the trophy ?
Ppl use various grounds in their arguments. They talk about damage, cost effectiveness, att/def, etc etc, but it seems one key element has been overlooked :SPEED !
In h2, shooters rule (I won¡¦t say dragons drool  ). Why? Speed is one key factor.
Titan, archmage, power lich, grand elf, greater druid (in h2) all are with the speed ¡§very fast¡¨ i.e. only phoenix and champion will always go before them ! So they usually have the first strike, considering most of them doing decent damage and no range penalty? in h2. And how many fliers are there in h2 ? How many are with very fast speed ? As I can remember, only blackie and gargoyle besides phoenix with ultra fast rating. Therefore, shooters are in huge advantage in h2.
However, things go completely different in h3. Shooters lose their advantage mainly because of the following reasons:-
1). Range penalty + wall penalty for most shooters
2). Introduction of ¡§wait¡¨ button
3). The most important change: greater SPEED differentiation
In h3, except titan (11), sharpshooter (9), enchanter (9) Storm elemental (8 or 9 ?) and CK (8), most decent shooters are with the speed 7 e.g. grand elf, power lich, evil eye, zealot or even lower. 7 is the key speed coz with 7+ speed, the un-hasted creature can cross the field in 2 turns ! How many units, be it walkers or fliers, are with 7+ speed ? I won¡¦t count but I guess you all know it, a "horde" of them 
Therefore, in h3, you got many units that can cross the field in one turn, most of them are top creatures like dragons. There are also many units with 7+ speed and can wait, take the half damage and kill your pathetic shooters¡K¡K in the next turn.
In h4, maybe shooters will regain their glory due to larger battle field and the use of terrain, but who knows¡K.
Taking speed into account, I would definitely pick titan as the best shooter and this mighty thunder creature is also a respectful melee unit !

Yeah. Titan people just pick them because they are the strongest. Pick your favorite shooter on the coolest/most useful. If I come by with Liches or Elves before you buy your very expensive Titan upgrade, your tower is toast. And with those creatures I would take your lands first before you could save up the Resources.
By the time you do have Titans, assuming I haven't already waisted you, I would have my level 7, too. And you better believe he'd be heading for your Titan! The my shooters would just pound on him after my level 7 attacks and neutralizes them. Well, unless I'm playing Fortress with no Teleport!
