Install Problem
Hi,
When I try to install HOMM 4 it crash just after I accept the license agreement. So I try a couple of things to see what was the problem. I try to install it on another computer and it works, so this is not the CD. After, I try to copy the CD on my computer and install the game but it crash again.
Do you have any ideas what could be the problem. I have a P4 2.4, 520 megs ram, LiteOnIt CD-ROM, GeForce 4 MX.
Thanks for your help.

I think you have to check:
1) the version of the game (eng, rus, ???, patched, cracked, original)
2) cd-rom driver
3) chech whether your CPU's box's inside isn't full of garbage
4) be sure that you have good cd-rom, because I have 64x26X64X26 CD-RW and it cannot read any CD. can u imagine?
5) for more, view Codex of Axeoth or other thread in this forum
Glad to help if I helped.

I have the same problem... I don't know how to fix it, but it seams that when the installshield program open the sysinfo.exe it crashes, so it's probobly some hardware conflict...

I also have that problem. I have found a way to bypass it, i hope.
Get someone to install Heroes. Then get them to burn the Heroes folder eg. C:/Program Files/3DO/Heroes or whatever. Then copy that folder to your computer and if the problem was with install shield it should work. Beware i have not tested this yet!

Yes, that could work... but the installshield also adds data to the Windows register. That could be a problem, but I don't know. We'll find out.

So... I try some other stuff.
1- I try to download and install the lastest InstallShield driver but that didn't work again.
2- I try to install it while I was on safe mode, didn't work either.
Well... That's it! So if you find any other idea post them please. (P.S. : To install it on a other computer and copy the directory won't work because of the register key)

Sorry I don't remember but just search in google for: (+"Installshield" +error), that's what I wrote and there's a site where they give the link for the lastest InstallShield drivers.

I found something but it's for HOMM3: http://www.savageforums.com/showthread.php?t=26025.
I tried what they say but it's not the same file (see the link) and I don't find the one who replace it. Maybe this won't work for HOMM4 but maybe so.....

Problem solved yet?
Else be sure 2 tell..
What OS (operation system, eg. Windows, lynux) do you have?
My guess would be, windows XP
In order to solve these kinds of problems on needs to eliminate a bunch of options. Luckily you already did a couple of things
I also read good (& nonsense.. or well: less good) advice
- Can u install other programs? (from cd-rom)
- What os has the other compu? (on which you installed to check CD-rom)
- Is it the original cd?? (or a copy)
- did you previously install Homm?
The advice given :
Quote:
Get someone to install Heroes. Then get them to burn the Heroes folder eg. C:/Program Files/3DO/Heroes or whatever. Then copy that folder to your computer and if the problem was with install shield it should work. Beware i have not tested this yet!
does work but .. there needs to be done a little more than just the things mentioned above .. (registry settings & must be copied some other things aswell & on needs a special file)
Leme know & I 'll help you out

Try to install under Windows' Safe Mode. It's a proven solution to some cases.

I got HoMM IV with all the games that come with it. (Original,TGS and WoW)
It seems that there is no such thing as a stable fan made Add-On for this game, as I have tried everyone of them to see how things work.
1. Equilibrus used to work. The Key words here being 'Used To.' The game exe works just fine. I love the balance. The C E Map Editor crashes and you can't bring it up again.
2. The H4 Map Objects Package. In it, are good add ons, but they also include 'Hidden Objects' and 'Modded Objects.' Both of these make the C E Map Editor crash, and again, you cannot bring up the C E campaign editor app.
3. Equilibrus 3.55. An easy installation to be sure. Just a few files. But there are errors on the maps I play, ("DELETE ME NOW!!!) comes to mind and the C E Campaign editor is totally screwy. (No stability)
4. Ultimate Mod by Nimostar. This shows a lot of promise. Again, the C E Campaign editor, like the rest of the other programs mentioned above, crashes, or refuses to come up again. When I got to peek at the C E editor, one time only, I was really impressed with it. It's just what I was looking for in mapmaking. And also, on the downside, Extra Large maps are showing as not being proper files, or something like that. I make only Extra Large Maps (My Empire series, for example).
So, for now it's vanilla HoMM4 for me. At least I know I can use this campaign editor without selecting something and having it crash.
I will wait for NimoStar to finish his Mod and see what happens. I would rather see an EXE for his mod rather that putting in separate files at a time (Such as New Bug Fixes patches and newer versions of the Mod itself. Too many to keep track of for the common gamer. And their coming in too fast to keep up with, which makes it confusing to see what you're keeping up to date with.)
Within the last week or so, I must've reinstalled the Vanilla H4 25 times to get one of these things working the way it should. The games play the way the authors say they do, but it always comes back to the C E Campaign Editor and the AOP file being unable to sync together properly.
This is one of the reasons I never look forward to newer Windows updates. Heaven help us all with Win !!.

Hi Bytebandit!
Are you the author of the famous extra large map called: Rise of Empire Heroes 2.32? https://www.maps4heroes.com/forum/opinions.php?map_id=689&game=4
This is probably my favourite map so far, I did it at least two times, with both sides. Order+Life!
I would be great,If you can rework it for the Ultimate mod, because it is sadly not working with equi objects and some equi scripts.
If you can help the mod development with your mapmaking knowledge, it would be greatly appreciated!

That IS a great map, but I am not the author of that one. I've done the Ancient, Atlantic, Artic and Asiatic Empires maps. They are picture maps of various lands in Europe, Asia And North America. All done using the H4util by Slava.
I am running the Equil 3.51 exe as well to play H4.. Only because it's the most stable, so far, of all that's out there. The Ultimate H4 project is still in it's infancy but shows great promise, for sure. I'm looking forward to the final release when it's all said and done.
And all the projects I mentioned in my last post are very good IMO, but it all comes down to how the c_e_Mod reacts when I select it. It has to be a no brainer to select the Mod without crashes. It seems like once it crashes, you can't bring up the c_e_Mod again. At least, that's what happens to me.
I hope none of the authors of these programs think I'm dissing their work. Just the opposite. I've been out of programming and have become just a gamer now. But game players really like simplicity and stability when it comes to Add Ons. Just select the .exe, install it, and all should work fine. No matter what version of Windows you have after Win '98. Case in point: HotA, which has an exe and plays well, and the Map Editor works too. FHeroes2 plays extremely well and the Map Editor works good.
I give all the Modders out there lots of thanks for what they are/have done for this busted game. Keep up the good work and let's make this the best game in the series. It definitely has the potential to be the best.

The object package does not cause the campaign editor to crash.
Having objects in a map from the object package and then not having those objects in the resource files in the Data folder is what causes the editor to crash, as the editor will look for those objects in the resource files and not be able to find them.
So you can't add objects to a map from the object package, and then move the h4r file that actually contains all of the additional objects.
Maybe what you're running into is a case of needing to delete the aop file to let the editor generate a new one.
Issues with the object package are pretty straightforward to fix, so if neither of these things was the issue just let me know and I'd be more than happy to help you troubleshoot.

There are certainly some things in the works, but doing it right takes time unfortunately.
