Yet another Necropolis town
I wasn't doing anything for a while, exept getting annoyed that i don't know what the creatures in the necro town will be like in Homm 5. So i thuoght baaaaah, i'll make my own list of creatures i'd like in the necropolis. And since i dont know what kind of setup the dwellings will have(annoying 2), i'll use the two dwelling per level from homm 4, which i thought worked pretty well. But i like upgrades as well, so i'll even try to make a dwelling set up based on upgrades.
soooooo here it goes................BLAH!!
ok:
level 1.
dwelling 1. Skeleton
dwelling 2. Revenant
level 2.
dwelling 1. Ghoul
dwelling 2. Banshee
level 3.
dwelling 1. Undead warrior
dwelling 2. Wright
Level 4:
dwelling 1. Flesh monstrosity
dwelling 2. Vampire
level 5.
dwelling 1. lich
dwelling 2. death knight
Level 6:
dwelling 1. Undead dragon
dwelling 2. Reaper of souls (grim reaper)
Ok, and now i'll try to describe some of these creatures:
The skellie is a skellie, nothing more to it really.
The Revenant is what i picture as a faulty vampire. It didn't make the tranition to a vampire, so now its a mindless zombie thing with only one thing in mind, TO KILL! Im not sure what abilities to give it. But im thinking in the lines of the berserker thing, and chance of plague.
The Ghoul is one of my favourites. It is basically a zombie, only more powerful and he can regenerate by eating the dead, friend of foe.
The Banshee is also a favourite. A female ghost, with the unholy shriek/scream ability, that inflict damage like the cerberus attack.
The Undead warrior is the rotting corpse of someone that had good ability with both sword and bow. Its skills aren't so good anymore cuz its dead, but still he/she/it is a crack shot with the bow and has a good sword arm.
And i put the Wright back, of course.
The Flesh monstrosity is a huge and slow hulk of bodyparts of various creatures that has beed stiched together and brought to life. Slow, but strong, it is a true might creature. Im not sure what ability to give it, exept that is scares the living daylight out of anyone who sees it. maybe it could regenerate by adding bodyparts to it self.(but the ghoul has that ability 2, so im not sure)
And we all know Vampire. I would like to mix the homm 3 and Homm 4 looks. Normally he looks like he did in homm 4, but when he attacks he turns in to something like the one from homm 3. And this vamp don't turn into a bat when he moves. Instead he hovers over the ground when he move(much cooler).
And the lich and Death knight we all know. I want them like in Homm 3. Only that the Lich cast spells also.
And the Undead Dragon is a favourite of mine. It is the corpse of a dragon brought back to life, and embalmed to make it last longer. It can fly longer than a bone dragon, because its wings are more intact. He has the fear ability, and his attck is what i would like to call Decay breath. Once a living or undead target is hit with the breath, the targer rots away at an instant. The attack also has a chance of a plague of decay that remains in the attacked stack for a few turns, causing even more damage. But with elemental and mechanical creatures the breath don't work. So on these creatures the dragon has a normal bonedragon attack. this is a kick a** dragon i would say.
And now to my absolute favuorite creature the Reaper of souls. I think of this creature as a undead version of devil, only much stroger and cooler, because it has the powers of the Grim Reaper to some exstend. The Reaper of souls look very much like the Grim Reaper, with its scythe and black hooded clothes. The Reaper of souls uses its scythe for attacking, and when he attacks he takes the souls of the killed. When he takes the souls from his killed he gains strength(melee) and this strenght buils up to letting him use the ability of Hand of death. After he has used the Hand of death, the strenght he has gained is all used up, and he has to start collecting souls again. If he don't use the Hand of death during the battle, his built up strenght last until he uses it. (maybe he must use the hand of death within let's say 6 days. After that he must start all over. ideas?) But i would like the most that he can keep it until he uses it. Oh, and he teleports.
And the zombies ans mummies etc that isn't in the town. Should be in the game also. just not in the town. Of course the Ghoul is a zombie u could say.
Now on to my attemt to make a creature setup with upgrades. I'll use the upgrade system from homm 2 as inspiration:
level 1.
Skeleton, upg skeleton archer.
level 2.
Ghost, upg Banshee
level 3.
Wright
level 4.
Flesh golem, upg Flesh monstrosity
level 5.
Vampire
level 6.
Skeleton mage, upg Lich
level 7.
Undead dragon
Bah, i couldnt use all my creatures here. i dont like this setup =/ So just ignore this idea =) There are a lot of ways to make a setup with upgrades, usin the creatures from my first idea. And i wont be happy with any of the possible setups. And i could add more levels to use some of the creatures, but that would just be too much.
Anyways, upgrades are stupid cuz unupgraded creatures are utterly useless, u just bare with them until u can upgrade them.
But did u like my first idea?

btw the altar table of contents is a "sticky" thread at page 3 atm (unless someone has brought it back it to page 1 already). there are several nice necro threads there. i don't feel like discussing here for a while and then copying my posts to a suitable thread later.
========
and if you choose to copy your post, maybe you could also answer those questions:

if it's a 'mindless zombie thing', why not call it a zombie?

Quote: A ghoul
Occasionally “post-Romero” zombies are referred to as “ghouls”, a name suggested by their cannibalistic tendencies. This is a common mistake as Ghouls are monsters or evil spirits that haunt cemetaries, robbing graves as they prey on the flesh of the deads. Ghouls are neither dead bodies, nor deprived of consciousness.
the page where this text was found was titled 'what is not a zombie', so i would be a bit doubtful about zombies and ghouls being the same.
Quote: And the lich and Death knight we all know.
btw what is a litch? i know it's a mage in many fantasies, but it would be interesting to know how the concept originated.

Well its not a real zombie because it, when it was living, was attacked by a vampire. But somthing went wrong, so it didn't turn in to a true vampire. Instead it became something else. With terrible hunger and a mind set to kill and get revenge. When i said mindless zombie thing, it was to describe how its appearance and mind is. A stipid corpse. Have you seen the movie Blade? they had something locked up in a dungeon, that didn't turn in to a vamp as it should.

I was wrong, sorry. They are still cool!

Offtopic:
I understand you may feel that your ideas are best suited in your own topic, but that does not warrant that short outburst. In future, you may want to review they way in which you conduct your manner towards moderators. That comment was baltantly rude.
I feel as though your ideas have merit, so I shall let them stay for the time being. Djive may definitely like to override this decision, due to the sheer number of necropolis threads.
It is true that there are many other threads about the Necropolis, but if you can prove that yours is something special and unique, it would heighten its chances of staying. On further occassions where you may want to create a topic, check the first few pages to see if there is already a similar one. This does apply for every member, not just you, The-Filth.
Ontopic:
I do admit that your first post is laudable, and most of your suggestions appear to be well founded. I am not sure why you commended yourself on the second post, though.
"dwelling 2. Revenant"
If the revenant is somewhat of a defunct Vampire, a zombie, as you refer to it, why don't you name it a zombie? It has more classical links to the
"level 2.
dwelling 1. Ghoul
dwelling 2. Banshee"
The ghoul and the banshee are very similar spirits. While there is a slight difference, not enough in my opinion to warrant them being two different creatures in the game. An upgrade of one could be feasible, but that is still teetering on redundancy, which is a bad thing.
"level 3.
dwelling 1. Undead warrior"
Not to sound obvious here, but, aren't all Necropolis troops undead warriors? The skeleton would fit this 'undead warrior' mould nicely, but yet it is 2 levels down. What is it that makes this generic 'undead warrior' so much more powerful and unique?
"dwelling 1. Flesh monstrosity"
I like the idea of a 'Flesh Monstrosity', it sounds unique and this theory really hasn't been explored, aside from shades of it in the Venom Spawn. It would be interesting to see how the artists would draw such an intricate creature if it were to be imported into the game.
"Level 6:
dwelling 1. Undead dragon
dwelling 2. Reaper of souls (grim reaper)"
It would be much simpler and more nostalgic if you were to call the Undead Dragon the Bone Dragon. The Grim Reaper is a common choice for the last level of a town, but I'm not convinced it should be there. I think a swap with the Dark Champion from level 5 and it would seem better to me.
This is my own proposed Necropolis Lineup:
Level 1: Skeleton -> Skeleton Warrior, Zombie
Level 2: Ghost, Mummy -> Royal Mummy
Level 3: Wight -> Wraith, Banshee
Level 4: Flesh Monstrosity, Lich -> Power Lich
Level 5: Black Knights (Crusaders, not Champions) Vampire -> Vampire Lord
Level 6: Dark Champion, Bone Dragon -> Ghost Dragon
I agree with Gerdash on the zombie issue, the revenant and the zombie are much of a muchness.

what does grim reaper have the scythe for?
what happens if the grim reaper swinged the scythe?
or is it some symbol of fertility?
the guy who took people's souls to the world of the dead (while had nothing to do with their death) was some boatman, as far as i remember, is it sure there isn't a confusion here?
i am somewhat incompetent in this matter, i have always thought that the grim reaper will bring forth my death by swinging his scythe.
why do you think that i manage to die on my own without the aid of grim reaper and grim reaper will just guide my soul to the world of the dead with his scythe after i am already dead?
