yah Tigris,
Just open it in MS paint and then do "Save As" and save it as a GIF file. the size will be alot less.
And when you do screen shots, try to create them in GIF, it will save you having to do this.

What Is Bandwidth?
I understand the concept. Linking your pic to many different sites does something bad. It has something to do with the amount of megabytes/kilobytes that a website gives you. People refer to the amount of megabytes as your "space"?
Does bandwidth = people accessing your pic?
So if you have a pic that you post and 1,000 people download the image to view it then this is bandwidth? So bandwidth = number of people you are allowed to have view your picture? I am confused.
When people say: "don't steal bandwidth," I don't understand what that means.

Basically what happens when you link to an image from another website, is that you are downloading that image from the site. When you link this way to an image and post it here for example, every time anyone hits a page with that graphic, they are downloading it from the host site - not from here. A webmaster can look at their site's stas and see that in one month 'smiley1.gif' was downloaded 15000 times, and pushed their limit on allowed bandwidth.
Most websites will have an allowable bandwidth limit measured in KB, and anything over that you need to pay them more money. In the case of free websites, they will allow so much bandwidth to be used per month before they stop displaying your web page. When it is upsetting to most, is that
A) they have paid for the webspace they are using - and you are stealing their content
B) they have designed their website, and chosen the size of their space / details of their terms according to their usage - and someone else is pushing them over their limit.
C) (in some cases) it is original content you are taking - with no credit to the creator, and you haven't asked for permission
It becomes a rather large problem in the case of webforums, because the image is displayed repeatedly - and must be downloaded to successfully view the web page over and over again.
The best solution if you really want to display that image you saw on someone else's site, is to download the image - and then upload it to your own space. ( or a free server that allows this )

Why is it that when I update an image (the points ranking for the noob tourney in this case), I try to upload the updated image, but it does not show up as updated, just the same old one?
Where is it kept in memory for me to go erase it?
Thanks

Try emptying your cookies, cache, and/or temporary internet files. It depends on what OS you've got and what browser you typically use. You can also tack version numbers to the updated files' names, although that would involve editing posts as well.

If you use Internet Explorer in the top navigation menu click on Tools>Internet Options. In the Internet options window click on "Delete Files". In the "Delete files" popup window check the "Delete offline content" checkbox and click Ok button. This will delete all offline web content on your computer. If you just want to get rid of cookies click on the "Delete Cookies" button in the Internet Options window.

uploading zip files
Recently the issue of uploading material in other formats than jpg, mpeg, gif etc. occured both in the tavern and in the map heaven forums. The best solution IMHO is uploading files in the zip format.Still searching for hosts that provides such an option of upload proved harder than i thought.
Does anyone has the time to search for such a site, or already has knoledge of one? It would be much apreciated.
@Valeriy:There are at least 3 threads in the map heaven guild(only on the first page) with people submitting maps for testing(both for heroes 3 and heroes 4).I was wondering if it wouldn't be possible to facilitate this in any way.I'm not a computer wizz, that's why my first reaction was to direct one of those guys here, to the upload center, but the links posted here don't support zip format, not to speak of *.h3m files. If you(or anyone reading this) can think of a more elegant way to solve this it would be wellcomed.
IMHO supporting people to create/submit their own maps, maybe organizing a map-making competition once in a while, would make the map heaven guild forum much more dinamic and attractive and why not say it, maybe it will bring fixed maps back to online games(which are dominated nowdays by randoms).RSF had a great ideea about this in ToH forum.
Hope this finds an answer soon!
@Edit:Speaking of maps, the link towards Map Heaven shows a strange message(never seen that one yet). The main ideea is that it's not functional.
wonders
has any1 seen this?

The link works fine for me.
Oh, and don't mention map contests anymore! Judging the maps for the last one has been going on for six months now! As a mapmaker, I must say I have completely lost interest in that site and its forum here. I use it just to upload my new maps... but I guess that was the main idea anyway.
Back on topic, I support your idea. It would be nice to have that option as well.

Hi, All,
In the past few months, I've found another message board which suits my interests more than this one. Due to limited internet time, I am phasing out of HC. I soon won't be available to provide the Upload Center password. Is there someone else who can volunteer to do this? It's not terribly onerous.
Thanks.

There's not much involved. When people IM or e-mail or post asking for the password, you tell them.

Sorry for the late reply Vlaad, unfortunately it's the ASP policy to allow only gif, .jpg, .swf, and .bmp formats for upload. That's only pictures and animations.

But it does not support .tif files, as I've just found out. Bah. What's the difference between this and any other upload center then?

basicaly there is no difference between the asphost site and other sites like phtotobucket or such.
the thing about it is that a HC member(Khaeloo) took the time to create a username to suit the needs of this community.this was meant to save time for members that didn't have the time to create one of their own and or that needed some pics uploaded for HC best interess.
in the end it's a small facility provied by the community for the ones interested.
@edit:btw. vlaad, if you're looking to upload some *tif files then you might want to visit photobucket
