Yes, nu-metal isn't the only thing: if it's too noisy, you can always choose something from "light" rock, punk, pop-rock, ska or whatever. Noone is pushing you to listen to nu-metal, but don't say it should go away, because many ppl in the world listen to that. Well I personally like punk rock better, but I won't push LP from me

The thing that bothers me is that people put KoRn, SOAD, LP and LB in one bag labelled "nu metal". I mean, to put several bands into one genre, they should have something in common, no?

This thread was meant as a discussion on rock, and the two bands. You shouldn't go to other generes. On the other hand, new metal hardly qualifies as rock.
I say death to all 'nu metal' bands! Bring back the real one, heavy metal!

If SOAD are new-metal, then I'm a washmachine.
ANyway, if they are, then I love new metal.
You always have to be open-minded about new winds in the musical art. Sometimes the still air has to be refreshed with new one. The bad goes away, the good stays and adds to the tradition that our children will call antology and have the same respect we today have for good ol heavy metal.
Imagine if people had been narrow-minded about heavy metal in the time of its emergance as a new branch in popular music. Do you think it would be as popular as it is today if it hadn't been for those open-minded people?
Don't just throw away and negate all that is new. It could be as good as the old, and even better.

You read my mind, Svarog Nothing can last forever, and as the years pass, the bands find new sounds and combinations, and that is really great. We cannot stand freezed in time all our life. Of course, it would be hard to make a person, addicted to the old music, to throw everything away, and just listen to the new. But as I said before, it is worth trying.

Ok, but there are things which you have to agree are absurd. For example, The White Stripes are considered the music revelation of the last year and what not. What bothers me is the fact that Jack White appears in the top 20 guitar players of all times in Rolling Stone magazine, whaen his hit song has 4 notes on the guitar. This would not be so bad if guitar legends such as Satriani, Steve Vai and Slash are left out of the top. Now I can understand that The White Stripes may be good, but you can't put them above older bands just because they bring something 'new'. Inovation in music does not necesarily mean better quality.

Jack White in top 20?! Nah!
I mean he's good! I went through their album and one "best of" collection and they are fantastic, and the guitar is fantastic. BUT, that's only recorded version. I can't say about live performance.
However, you know, commercial magazines are always in the mood to mingle legends and young perspective, but unfortunately unestablished artists. Well, they have to say something new and sell their stuff.
But, if we're talking best guitarists, our impressions are again modelled by those magazine rankings which again leave out the best ones, such as many blues and jazz musicians. So even if you say "oh come on, what about those fossilic rock groups!", I still think that it's not the objective rank. And White Stripes, compared to many of the old school stuff, are a decent match. Or more...

No, I get what frostwolf is on about.
'Guitar Hero' means someone that, after playing a few notes - you just KNOW who it is. Whether it's Slash (the ultimate), Clapton, Brian May.
There are very few new guitar heroes these days. I think the closest would be Justin from the Darkness.
But it's more about bands these days, rather than just guitarists,
Even so:
To me, very few bands these days have that instinctive - I know who that is -after just a few notes, without hearing the singer.
To me Linkin Park have it. You just know - brakebeat on the vinyl, starts of with a few picked notes on the guitar then WHAM into the main thing. Classic Linkin Park.
A few others do as well - Marilyn Manson, Evanescence, Lost Prophets, Radiohead.
But music these days has lost it's distinctive touch.
Someones gonna say 'The White Stripes are distinctive'. But I get them mixed up all the time with the likes of the Vines, Franz Ferdinand, those kind of artists.
I prefer the more distinctive music, but that's just my opinion.

neither nirvana nor guns n roses can compare to SOAD.
I just got their new demo cd "Serart" with Arto Tunkboyachian. It's pretty crazy.

sorry i couldnt find SOAD but i found bad music named seart.
Their official website "looks" okay but its organized in the inferior way that theres only 1 link no matter what page your on. http://serart.net/ demo is somewhere in there.
They are trying to sound brilliant and use african and middle eastern sounds for some reason. I suport music thats good and their music is not going to make it.

Actually, I found a top which was pretty good, and had may on 5 or 6, after Hendrix, Clapton, Paige, Slash and maybe Van Helen.

That's because Serart is done more in the style of Arto than System of a Down. And Serj's voice is haunting in "Black Melon".
btw Serart is translated into English as Art of Love.

Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit are Metal, they're known as nu-metal, whereas SOAD and such are more like heavy metal similar to RATM and Metallica and such.
That said, I don't like metal music, although I used to like Nirvana and Guns'n'Roses when I was much younger.

That is nu-metal. And not only LP or LB are in this genre. Some ppl say, that Deftones, Godsmack, Incubus, Korn, LostProphets, Papa Roach, Slipknot, Staind or System Of A Down are nu-metal, though I would say, only a minority of those really are.
