Ubi released the Nature Town!
Here's a snap shot of the concept art of the nature/rampart town posted on CH by Fabrice. So how do you all like it?
As far as I can tell from this, buildings are not yet in place. I can see the big tree in the middle, most probably the "City Hall" (or Tree hall).
Overall, it's well-designed, although I'm not sure if they should've gone with this cartoony style in the first place, but what's done is done. There are some beautiful light effects here, but we'll see how that will be implemented in the actual game. And the overall feel of the town is impressive. One thing that made me extremely happy is that there's no more the ugly "museum exhibition" look of town screens present in homm4, but the town is now a completeness and has a soul. I'm sure it will be the case with the other towns also.
I'd rate it 7 out of 10. (and that is a SUCCESS on my scale!)

I like it!!
It seems very Endor-ish to me, but that's not a bad thing.
And it's a welcome change to see a break from the blocky towns of H4.
I like this new art style, and would rate it 8 out of 10.
Now what do you think that glowing golden bowl structure is to the right of the big tree?

Hmmm, it seems to me like a magical fire or something. I suppose it will be the place where the mage guild will be.
Right now we need Mr Holmes to take a look at this and tell us what can he tell form these rudimentary clues. (btw, wasnt PH's RL name Holmes ) Oh well, i'll give it a try.
Don't you think there's too much water for a nature town?
I'm afaid some of the typical nature creatures might not find their place in this watery ambient. eg. unicorn, cantaur, dendroid...
Maybe it will be a mix of nature and fortress. Somewhat possible, since homm3's fortress creatures basically disappeared in homm4. (except the hydra)
My wild assumptions for creatures:
Fairies
Elfs
Nymphs
Phoenix
A dragon maybe?
From fortress some mutant reptile-like creatures would fit (gnolls, srpents, basilisk, wyvern..)
In fact, I have no idea.

Wow. I like it. The town just seems large IMO, but I like it.
Edit: I just noticed it's on water. 7

Looking at the town I'd guess sprites are back.
Probably some other flying creature - maybe the pegasi.
Elves are almost certain I'd say.
Dendriods?
The golden bowl isn't fiery enough to be a phoenix dwelling, maybe you're right about the mage guilds, but now I look there seems to be more than one of them.
Did they actually officially name it the Nature town? That could give us an insight into the magic system if they did.

Nope. No official name. The members who asked for this thing to be posted were smart enough to vaguely refer to it as "nature/preserve/rampart town".
Speaking of which, why is our Question to Ubi thread still empty? I know that the crash messed everything but that's no excuse not to start refilling it, esp. because Fabrice promised he'll answer some questions here too.

Pfeh,,,
I really do enjoy a good watercolor painting now and then. I really do. It works great for children's books. It stimulates their imagination and let's them fill in parts of the picture that aren't so detailed. This sort of art has its place. I strongly feel it does not belong in our next modernized Heroes game.
This art they've chosen to follow through with is laughable. On the box for Heroes V they should place an age limit directly related to the new "concept art". What a loss. Just look at the lack of detail. It's lackluster. Looks as if it was all done with water colors. Well, since the age category for the next heroes game is going to attract more 10 year olds then people like myself I'd have to say that my kids will love it. I see art like this several times a day while reading to my children from the many pop-up books they have. This is so disappointing. It's practically a step in reverse. Who do they think will be playing this game? 3rd graders?
If you look at some of the pics I've posted in my Dragons, Fairies, and new avatar pics you'll see the type of quality I'm talking about. We should expect nothing less from modern games for the Personal computer. These guys are really behind the times.

Consic, what the heck are you taliking about. Aren't you the one who said that like fairies...well how much fairish could it get?
Anyway isnt this just a concept art? The game should look diffrent, but i deffinitly wouldn't mind if it remain like this.
The fact that you see water colours as something chilish, makes me think that you are not much into arts...

Everybody, keep in mind that at this stage, they cannot allow the publication of detailed pictures, as that would give away too much of the game. Releasing watercolour pictures with a nice texture, but without any details or specifics is just a marketing technique.

1. concept art is meant to give an idea what the game art will look like. i think consis has every reason to expect the game to look like the concept art and almost no reason to expect that the game will look different than the concept art. it would imho be extremely illogical to think that 'no matter what the concept art looks like, the game will look like i see it in my dreams.'
2. my own opinion is that, although i prefer medieval style, a also believe that the game can be done with reasonable cartoony style. what bothers me is if the elves will have hands and feet like an elephant while they have body and head like a mosquito. the demonic creature sketch makes me pessimistic about the art style, though.
3. i don't see any reason why dendroids should be afraid of water. i don't expect to see nymphs. i suspect that if they are including phoenix in the town then this would be the lonely mountain on the background. as far as i understand, elves should be almost certain, so i wonder if they will go tolkienish or not. if they will not go tolkenish, maybe we will see some trolls like in kings bounty.
4. maybe their magic tower isn't built in this town or maybe they just want to show the general style of the game so individual buildings are not so important? or maybe the magic system will be different and there will be no mage guild as we are used to?
5. there are more 10 year olds than there are grown-ups, because, let's face it, people get killed in wars and all kinds of accidents (e.g. ridden over by a train), etc. someone also has to make games for the younger. maybe they can pull it off and manage to attract the attention of the young with a turn-based game this time? or maybe not, sad story then. if the game will not be a sucess, i wonder who will be responsible for choosing unsuitable style for the game?

Looks like a scene taken out of LoTR, but very impressive i must say
And anyway, this is just a concept art - no way in hell would watercolour be used in the real game.

taking a second look at the picture, which i am almost certain is the town of elves because of the huge tree in the middle, the town seems somewhat naked to me. i mean, it seems a bit too open. the elves and sprites are somewhat secret tings that live in forests, this one looks way too open imho. bare side of a cliff rather than a forest.
========
btw there is a game that looks like pencil drawings and it looked quite good imho. a matter of textures, i think.
i agree that water color appearance of the real game is somewhat unlikely, though. on the other hand, i don't see any reason to suspect that it will be too much different than the concept art, otherways i doubt they would have chosen water color to draw it. and with water color you can also draw in different ways. what's the point of concept art if it doesn't resemble the desired way the final game should look like?
personally, i am not concerned about the level of detail at all, but the general atmosphere.

Guys, dont try to decipher too much from one concept image. Obviously its not a screenshot from the town screen itself, just a drawing for the theme.

I agree with Gerdash here..
Hopefully the town itself will be a bit more mystical a bit more 'hidden'
But its nice.. I like the manga style
I hope we will be able to play it soon
