Well i must admit that the concept is a giant leap foreward from HoMM IV but i must say i also would prefer a more realistic look. I mean i dont have a state of the art graphics card so i can play cartoons. But over all its good.

Well, I like it, but as Marelt said, it is sure that it is not the fully detailed one.
I'd like to have more elven town though. That wouldn't be so strange then.
I think that this town is good, though I'd like to have some dwellings released.
That's all I have to say.

Orange
Why is orange more pravailing than green?
It is certainly a big difference from before.
And is it possible that this is only one "background"? I mean like it was in homm4; there were backgrounds for all kind of terrain for every town.
Because you can see that the background is more or less universal. Imo it can go for all towns without altering their true nature. It's not excessively barren nor lush.

Pretty! It's so pretty!
And by the way, when there's a little more light on the screen it won't look orange... it'll look really gold and even prettier!

Taking another look @ the picture, I don't think that's actually a lake. Around it you can make out gates, with bridges running towards those golden round structures like little islands. I think these is the town's village structures, and the actual fortress is the big tree. Therefore the 'lake' might actually be a moat.
There are also gates all around the moat, and remembering that H5 will be in 3D - will a town have more than one point of defense/attack? ie - Will there be multiple siege points?
I do think it's better than a big blocky castle sitting on the grass like a lump. It definetly gives you an atmosphere to the town that we haven't seen since HOMM3.

the orange color is probably just because it's dawn. after a few moments, the phoenix is going to rise from behind the mountain, maybe.
the glowing island with the bridges looks like it has the stonehenge on it. if it's true.. ouch.

i think it is pretty cool actually
I like the look, but i have to agree with Vesuvius, u really cant take too much away by looking at the picture. Its been drawn up not to show the creature dwellings obviously, so anything could change. Who knows, they could make substansial changes to it before the game is released. I think that the 'water colour' style drawing is more to cloud the image, i think it is going to sharpen quite a bit, and the graphics will get better.
Also i like the idea about the moat, the 3d idea will be a huge change in the way you play h4 if it happens like that. Imagine if you could surround the town with a few armies and attack at once!! a combined attack against a town garrison, could work

Maybe it's not the nature town at all?
Maybe it's a swamp town?
Admittedly it's not very swampy, but it could be.
@ Gerdash. I see what you mean about Stonhenge. Maybe the druids from HOMM 2 are back?

ok, let's say it out clear *cough* if it really is stonehenge, then it looks awkward. who would build stonehenge on a swamp island?
i would hate the explanation that this stonehenge stays there for ever "magically". if they want to have druids and a stonehenge, i hope they will put the stonehenge on solid ground and, even better, out of town.
i sincerely hope that the thing on the small island is not stonehenge (unless someone proves that stonehenges were typically built on such islands that were connected to a town by a drawbridge. or on any small islands -- maybe it's a solid rock island).
enough about stonehenges right now from me, i guess. i hope i have explained the exclamation in my previous post.

My opinion from the picture is that these folks are either desperately looking for a "game feeling" that they can't grasp or that simply anything will go.
First of all, I was expecting something even more cartoonish (after the horrible drawings that were released months ago). In fact, it's not really cartoonish, if you check again the picture it's quite a 5 year old Carravagio. The passion for darkness and crepuscule can be awsome in classical painting but it realy spoils a game. This picture can't be used for a town screen because it has no perspective. You can't cram dozens of buildings into that... what it is?...lake, pond, moat... (any other ideas?)... The big tree in the middle left is perfectly set by painting technique, but it completely blocks a developing pattern for an inhabitable area.
And i hope you don't expect me to believe that stuff with the tree being the fortress? it's hilarious...
So my mark would be a....4 out of 10. That means completely rejected. I wonder where are the huys who designed the H3? They should be payed double.

1. Demographics show that the largest group of PC gamers are between 22-35 (ca.) years old, so I think it would be a mistake aiming for 10-year olds, who are more prone to console gaming.
2. I think Ubisoft needs to get a whole new crew of artists and designers. They seem completely stuck in a naïve/manga-rut, and in my opinion, it's going nowhere.

Because this is concept art this isn't meant to be the final town look. its just made to give us some ideas about how the town will be like.
Its stupid to start ranting and raving about watercolors can't be used for the town. And u cant start whining about that creature dwellings cant fit in the town and blah blah blah, cus its just a preliminary consept art, and the final product will have the dwellings it needs. And if they actually will use watercolors for the real in-game town, the detail will of course be much better. Using watercolors doesn't mean that u cant have very detailed pictures. So for concept art that is very beautiful and gives me many ideas and hopes on how the final town will be like, i give it 10 out of 10.

whatever the problem with this concept art is, imho it's tiny compared to the problem with the inferno creature concept art.
imho the inferno creature is the clearest indication of the attitude problem released so far.
the nature town concept art could be somewhat different in the final game, but i guess that the direction of change will be the general attitude problem of the game graphics.

It Isn't Even Close To The Tree Of IcewindDale
That tree is nowhere near as detailed. It doesn't even compare. Not only is the IcewindDale tree far more detailed but they don't even look like each other.
This watercolor tree is growing in the middle of a lake with luscious green....I can't tell. Maybe those green smudges are supposed to be....ugh...I can't even tell.
The city of Kuldahar that exists at the base of the Icewind Dale tree is located in a frozen mountainous region of a fictional world/planet called Aber Toril/Forgotten Realms. The mountain range is refered to as the "Spine of the World Mountains".
Here's a link to the city map at its base:
http://www.planetbaldursgate.com/iwd/info/maps/areas/map.asp?map=ar2100.jpg&caption=AR2100_-_Kuldahar
This tree is somewhere in lala land. I'm half expecting to see little smurfs jump out and start singing.
Kids will love it, I gaurantee it
**mumbles to myself**
(the mere thought that someone could even think about comparing these children's graphics to Forgotten Realms art is deplorable and insulting)

world tree is a common thing in pagan mythology. you don't have to copy ideas of another computer game to come up with an idea of a great tree.

Proof For The Fans
In a world like today we should expect no less than the best quality for the fans. Here is the proof I was looking for. Look upon this picture with a renewed sense of hope. Know that as a fan you have the right to expect more from your game developers. Look and see.....for yourself:
Now tell me.....what you think about that nondescript watercolor tree. This is the work of Tracey J. Butler, a true master. We should always expect our game developers to enlist such high quality talent.

Well, it's a nice picture of late roman / early gothic small country manor house. It really looks nice and I might hang it on the wall of my summer cottage. But what's it got to do with heroes? Is it from some game?
Anyway, it wouldnt suit for Nature to live in -- the castle is as human as can be and no elves or wolves would agree to inhabit it. I'd much prefer the tree.
I don't believe the watercolor will reach the final game. Many of Ubisoft's concept art pieces have used watercolor, but so far none have yet made it to the game unchanged. Especially when we consider, that HOMM5 is supposed to be full 3D, and i'd like to see a watercolor 3D rendering...
