my worst defeat... well that can only be described as my LEAST VICTORIOUS BATTLE.
I suppose i only had 1 guy left when i won a match against a Impossible ranked castle team... no cheats

I remember this game about 4 years ago.
I was necro with thant and my opponent was dungeon with mace.
I was controlling the game, had a bigger army, and better stats than my opponent.
Then in the battle i see that he has way higher stats than me and needless to say, even with twice the army strength he had, i got killed  .
Later i found out that he visited one maxed out utopia and got sword of judgment, heavenly helm, titan curias and tome of air :\.

My worst defeat was a few months ago when I played one game in my local network against some person. Random medium-sized map with underground on 200% difficulty. Random starting towns and heroes. I got Necropolis, he got Stronghold. Somehow I managed to get out of my starting place and start to develop quickly. It was week 4 and I had some pretty decent force. I met his main hero and attacked him in a neutral town which he has captured. I would easily win, but he cheated - he claimed that it was my turn while in fact it was his turn. I thought that it might be a bug and allowed him to reload. He ran away, avoiding the fight. Later on, this "bug" repeated, and then I accused him in cheating, and he agreed. But that's only part of the story. The worst part is that I got Grail in that game, I dug it up after visiting only about a half of the obelisks - and it took me only one try to find the right place! And I lost. I used this relic improperly; I tried to rush the enemy, but unsuccessfully; he got stronger and I got weaker, and finally I gave up. This was a very bitter defeat - two chances to win easily were lost so badly. Since that very game I hate cheaters...
EDIT: And throughout the game he laughed at me and called me a n00b... ******* cheaters!

Divine Intervation was the weapon!
" I was chaos and i had everything rigth on the battlefield, i was winning. I killed all of t.t`s
heroes. Then when he was a life his angels ressucted his priest and then the priest used divine intervation and every hero wich i had killed came back, and then i lost! He playded so well.. What could have i done? "

I had one of my worst experience on saturday in my tribe finals game against "nevermindspy".
We played random XL no under, template "True random".
160% difficulty. Random hero.
I created some random maps on that template the days before to get a clue what this template is about. I saw many areas (about 17-20), all with boarder guards. Rather poor starting area. Only wood and ore mines in the starting area. All other 4 mines were splitted in other areas (only 1 mine in every area!). And the main annoying thing were the tons of 2-way teleporters on that map. I hate it when u never know where you will come out and when u donīt get a right strategy, coz u donīt know where those 2-ways will lead you...
I thought about playing with castle or fortress (both are our tribe town choices), but due to the fact i had a starting bonus out of the regular season (5 thunderbirds) i decided to play with castle coz of the movement penalty i would get with these birds on swamp terrain.
On 160% i have chosen wood/ore as starting bonus, coz on my play-tests i got in wood trouble very fast, and wood and ore is what u need most in first week.
OK...how the game did happen:
As starting hero i got Sylvia (), opponent got Orrin.
Archer dwelling was not pre-built.
Second hero in tavern was Rion, 3rd Gerwulf, 4th Gundula ( ).
So it looked right well, an offense special hero with a ballista (from Gerwulf) and a first aid tent (from Rion) and 5 thunderbirds to fight.
Second day my road was "blocked" by lots of maggogs, which were no problem to fight with my birds (without them, would have been hard though...). Problem on this template now is, u donīt use "scouts" the way u could do normally, coz every now and then, the area is finished and a guard is placed to the "entrance" of the next area.
Gundula got expert offense, basic air and basic tactics already to the end of week one, when i took a look in tavern and saw TAZAR to buy there (), i was able to build horses and castle until day 7, so i decided to buy him (also to prevent my opponent to get him perhaps next week in tavern....).
I had 3 or 4 towns soon, but only 2 artifacts up to the end of week 2 (+3 sword, +4 shield).
I was not able to build angels in week 2 (call me noob.. ), coz i found only 1 more mine and no trading post and i lacked bad in wood (to build more marketplaces..)
Ok...to make it a bit shorter...
Built angels week 3, archangels day 1 week 4.
Gundula got armorer and logistics in the meanwhile.
But still NO other good arties to see.
Found Sword of judgement, guarded by throng of dreadknights. Without earthmagic and only 3 Archangels a bit too hard, so i broke through a throng of energy-elementals to follow my last road. I found a tope there (were only 3 goldies), which gave me tome of air and dragon scale armor and finally earth magic. Was week 5 now and the throng of ogres guarding the next 2way tele were killed and gave me expert earth though. This 2way was leading into HIS area (could see one of his towns) and was guarded by throng of magi on the other side. Decided to let them magi stay, so he wouldnīt notice i broke to his area already.
Made the "poormanīs townportal" now and chained all my troops the whole map down to the town near the Sword of judgement. Killed the 140 dreadknights next day, got the sword and 8 giants out of a box.
My stats now were something like 20-20-15-17 (still had only 4 stats arties though, Sword +5 all, shield +4, breastplate +4att/def and necklace +3pow/know).
I thought that should be enough now to go for him and his Orrin. (At that point, i had 7 towns and he had still 3)
When i looked in the tavern, i saw Orrin with stats like 33-20-25-20. Could be hard i guessed () (He told me afterwards, he killed a horde of archdevils, which guarded Helm +6 all, titans gladius, necklace +3 all and sandals +2 all.....now that is what i call lucky..)
OK....i saw my only chance in being the only one with tactics skill, casting expert air at the start and crush him with my offense speciality.
When i faced him, i was lucky, only me with tactics.
I had 2 more AAīs, (8/6),10 more champs (24/14), zealots, griffins, crusaders were the same, he had 40 more marksmen (80/120) and instead of my 8 giants he had 209 pikemen.
So i thought i could have a good chance by casting expert slow, so 3 of my units would "walk" before his AAīs could.
So i placed AAīs, griffins and champs in the front row, let zealots and marksmen in a corner each, and crusaders and giants in about the middle, to have 2 units which could walk "back" when he attacks my shooters.
When i pressed "ready" after tactics formation, i lost all the smile in my face after pressing the "cast a spell" button......RED ORB...
So i had placed all my big armies in front to crush him, now i knew he could reach them all with his army...and he had 33 attack, and me 20 defense.......and the wait button wouldnīt help me while staying in front of his army..
So i had no chance in that fight....main reason was, i had no good arties....he got 3 good relics with 1 fight and found red orb afterwards....
Sad....coz this loss could be the reason our tribe (ended on first place after regular season!) could lose in first round of the play-offs though....

Indeed good story .. well the only fact that was kinda bad is that I belive you rushed in getting him .. I say in most cases I try to find many artifacts.. Attack/Defense make the game in most of the times. Indeed the red orb was quite a surprise and I see that you would have surely got the game, but 2 angels and 10 champs can't do the job.. I guess if it wasn't for the so many pikemen you would have won.. Damn it's get on my nerves the fact that i don't have the time to play Heroes anymore.. Would surely like to get a game with you somethime..
Do you have the save game?.. I would surely like to repeat the battle couple of times.. I had some of this moments when at the first battle I failed, but then I got a load game and did excellent..

I tried to do the fight again on next day some times, but always failed.
For sure i placed my army always in same formation due to tactics placement, coz i "donīt know" opponent has Red Orb.
Even when i fly back with my angels, my champs will all die (zealots alone kill 7 champs with one shot...and got moral as well). I tried to get back with the champs as well, but then the battle only takes longer, but still ends the same coz of his 13 points att/def difference.
When i would stay on my side instead of placing some units in front, he protects his both shooters (120 marksmen with Orrin do a LOT of damage though.. ) and same result....
And btw....i really donīt think i rushed him, coz it was already end of week 6....iīm not used to play 160% on XL maps, but i think the good players would have rushed him perhaps week 5....with expert slow i could have gone for him with 3 AAīs, 12 or 14 champs and my shooters...no problem......but without...and attack skill of about 10.....hard to do...
I had 4(5) useless skills in final battle though....wisdom, air, earth, resistance (was last choice) and logistics (not useless at all, but in endfight u canīt travel further with your units coz of Log..).
So only offense, armorer and tactics helped in battle.
But what i learned from this fight was, to take a scout with me into the endfight to check out if he has red orb...

I want to tell about a game i had last night with a juniour colleague from the Academy(as my internet conection didn't work ).It was a hot seat game, but i tried to make sure there was no peeking from either side.The game i'm talking about was the result of another game we played earlier when i simply crushed that guy(endfight week 3 day 7 with me sieging with fortress, defeated him with wiverns&drag flies and lizzards), but afterwards i heard him speak to some of his friends saying that he had a lot of bad luck and that if i would have given him 1 more day he would have defeated me for sure(i cannot understand how that is possible as he had a 6/6/3/2 lvl 5 whereas my lvl21 tazar was something like 19/34/11/14).Also, wiithout my knoledge, one of my friends made a bet with that guy concearning the winner, a money bet.Not knowing about this i played it cool & relaxed and cleared the map prety well, especially cos i'm not such a fortress fan(we started random).
Anyway, when i heard that guy saying sh** like that to his buddies i got kinda upset especially cos he kept bragging that he would beat me anyday when playing for "real money".
So i acepted playing for cash, not much, the equivalent of 2.5 euro (5 beers here).
We played jebus l no under, and i ended up with castle(got mephala week 1).
The thing is i've been very crispated& scared the entire time of the game, i checked my pulse once in a while and had constantly over 80 pulse.I made tons of mistakes(didn't build angels first week,lost 2 AA, broke into the treasure area month 2 week1 day 1).In that time(the first month) he constanly had superior skills(at one time he reached a stagering 22 attack{he had lion's shield of courage,sandals of tyhe saint&the bat with +% atrtack in his area}) so i jumped the conclusion that he broke into the middle first.So i freaked out even more, but cooled down cos i saw he didn't.So i expected things to go my way from that point(i entered 2 topias), but useless, cos after exploring the whole middle area(lost 1 week there) i couldn't find any stats inprouving arts except titan's cuiras, just mabic res&speed&archery arts + tome of earth+orb of silt& most important orb of vulnerability.I attacked him week 3 day 1( one month late). I win easily cos i could cast tons of spells on him whereas his berserk&blind didn't work(badge of courage).Even if i knew before entering the battle that i would win, even after the first turn (killed all his BD.blocked all archers,halved the harpies&mino0taurs) i kept shaking and felt cold chills down my spine.This was the worse feeling i ever got when playing a game(worse than losing)+it was one of my crapiest games yet.
I can't explain why, maybe it was the cash involved, maybe the fear of losing(my established status), maybe the fury i felt when i heard that guy saying he would have beaten me the first time , i don't know! the fact is it was one of the most horrible games i've played

What you felt was a combination of it all, the money was probably the factor that did the least, but the first few times you play for money or if the stakes are high it's often thrilling. The main thing is the fury you feel because of something he has done that is dishonorable and you feel you just must win. A heroes game takes too long to keep your anger fueled all the time and your body reacts poorly to it.
The two times that I can recall I've felt such anger over being wronged I won, one was a magic the gathering game and the other was in everquest. Won't describe those since this is a heroes board after all and this is about defeats.
I've never really had any defeat here that hurt much, the worst is probably a single player XL map that I wanted to play as a no-load game with as few bad plays as possible and when it's almost finished I transfer some troops and artifacts between my heroes and then attack lots of titans with my main hero who happens to have a single harpy hag after the transfer and after that I jump up and shout 'Stupid, stupid, stupid!'.

Bac kin the days of 2002 when I played heroes I had plenty of shamefull defeats,but I can't remember a single one of them.I do remember one victory though,I was with a castle hero who had artillery speciality and could control the towers from a defending castle.A necro hero was about to attack me.....think it was month 2 cause the strongest army when I visited the den of thieves was his,and he wanted to recapture a inferno town I just caught.He had about 11 wraiths,13wights,2 liches,8 vampires,20 walking dead,60 skeleton warriors,and 80 skeletons.I just had 4 pikemen!Now,pikemen really didn't been so helpfull to me in all my experience of heroes until that faithfull day..also I could build the efreet dwelling but costed me some recources I had to spare.In the end i built it.To make a Brave and long lasting defence,I splited my 4 pikemen in stacks of 1 each.Next day he attacked me!first I killed his liches and remember attacking his wights,wraiths,didn't have spells.....Didn't advance with his vampires untill he had no more wights,and wraiths.By now only two of my pikemen were dead and my efreet were untouched.They were my tank unit so I killed the wights,,morale hit my efreets and killed the wraiths..
Now all I can remember is that at one point he destroyed my bridge and advanced with his entire army,to kill my efreets,but they were not as fast as him,who was advantaged by the lava terrain as well.So,I ended up beating his hero,(Vokial)and having just one the most thrilling victory of mine by then in about 14 months.I had battles with 70 titans,190 wyverns,some 39 black dragons,and a lot of other battles like this but none of them just reset my mind in the basics of thdefence and the game like that one.

Back when I and my opponent knew nothing about the game, I found Armageddon in my Dungeon town and wanted to try that lame thing with some Blackies. He was surprised when I attacked his super force with only a few dragons and shocked when all but his efreet(d'oh, forgot about them) died to mighty Ingham's first move. Then the fun started, I overvalued the stupid wyrms and instead of retreating I lost Ingham. Bad. Worse: His EAGLE EYE captured my arma. Then I got killed by my own lame trick, months later, when I just rebought Ingham, only to find out, that my backup main had become better in the mean time.

funniest ever
this happened in a hot seat game 2 vs 2 allied. I hunted one our oponents hero down, and was about to make him cry for mercy ) almost killed his whole army while mine was about halved - but then he started to summon earth elementals... tons of mother f**kers!!! I couldn't keep up with them all and in the end I lost the fight... he raised his levels, but his hero disappeared, just like mine... sad thing was - he was able to buy his hero on the first day next week... mine was lost forever...
hate those summoned creatures since... always in fear of them since then
