Education Articles: A discussion thread
This thread is for discussions and constructive suggestions about the education articles index, and the articles in general. Here you can comment on the index, make suggestions about new categories, talk about proposed articles, propose existing threads to become articles, and just generally chat about how they are coming along with their work. Generally speaking, anything goes here (within forum rules of course!), but discussion about the topic of an existing article is best done in the articles actual thread
The article index is here

Maybe new articles will pop up if people request particular topics of interest?

Possibly, worth a thought I guess, trouble is people have to write the articles too, so it needs someone who knows something about the requested period...

Well, yes, of course. But, personally speaking, I don't want to spend a lot of time composing an article without some indication that someone out there wants to read it. Requests would help potential article authors as well as article audiences.

I'll write about the different parts of the brain. I know a thing or two about the brain. Is that an acceptable article topic?

Ho Hum
Khaelo,
You didn't even say what the article would be about thus preventing any real opportunity for input from readers; once again creating your own self-defeating posting habits. That annoys me to no end.
Wolfman,
That would be a very interesting subject indeed. I am ecstatic with eager anticipation. You can count on me to read it for certain.

The educational articles index has hit a plateau. My idea to revive it was for people to request articles they'd like to read, thus prompting other people to write said articles. I didn't say what any given article would be about because that was the question -- what articles do people want?
That said, if people are willing to go ahead without requests, that's great. The more, the merrier. The brain sounds fascinating.

Pfeh,
Don't lie Khaelo, you're not going to read a thread about the brain written by Wolfman. Shallow to the bitter phony end....
Quote: Well, yes, of course. But, personally speaking, I don't want to spend a lot of time composing an article without some indication that someone out there wants to read it.
So.....you expect people to simply pop in and tell you(member known as Khaelo) what to do research on? That's unlikely. If you notice PrivateHudson, Svarog, and others post research about things that interest them. Have you no interests, or are you simply afraid of what people will say of your work?
(beats a dead horse)....Every single piece of your material that I have had the priviledge of reading has been of very good quality. In fact I could predict that if you decided to post a body of research detailing the genetic make-up of a banana peal then WE CAN ALL BE CERTAIN THAT IT WOULD BE COMPLETED WITH A HIGH DEGREE OF ACCEPTANCE AND RESPECT.(your reputation precedes you for being an exceptional poster) For god's sake Khaelo you don't need an invitation, simply write what you feel the most interested in and I guarantee you that I will be at least one member who will read it!
**out of breath**.....huff, huff, wheez.....

Calm down. No need for caps, no need for hostilities, no need for judgements.
The requests would be made to the general HC populace, or at least the Other Side subset. Or people could write articles out of the blue. Whatever works! I have trouble writing things up without a prompt, but some posters are quite willing. This isn't about any one member. Just get this thing going again.

No need to argue guys, there's room for both request-driven articles and articles written out of interest in a period.

It wasnt really that way. I wrote that article couple of months ago thanks to a request by Privatehudson on another forum. And thats why I think Khaelo's idea is very good. If I would have to write something of my interest, I doubt anyone would appreciate it that much (though, yes people will read it I guess). But I would be much more willing to write an article upon a request if I know that someone is really interested about that and it would mean a lot to them.
If it was left up to me, the topics wouldnt be much of popular interest really.
Also, I think if someone wants to write something without a request by other people, they can ask in this thread whether theres someone interested to hear about that, such as Wolfman did.

I think possibly another problem is that an article well written will usually not bring a response anyway, or shall we say not a discussion response. Most well researched articles are either so correct that they cannot be disputed, or would require someone equally well versed in the subject to dispute it's various points. Articles may well be read without people feeling the need to reply.

Yes I Agree,
I can't say for others but in my opinion, some subjects are considered 'black and white'. If you think of it as only a textbook reference sort of thing such as anatomy & physiology, anything math related, and so on. If someone posts that the yellow substance found in a person's bones is called marrow then who can argue that? I totally agree to PrivateHudson's point.
I think that before the discussion topic is posted, perhaps the author should inform the community of its basic direction. Perhaps tell us first that the topic is verbatum, informative, quizzical, scientific research, popular human opinion, etc.
I wasn't interested in the thread made by PrivateHudson detailing his well-researched historical data on the widely misrepresented figure known as 'Billy the Kid', however I did read through its entirety with great respect and admiration for the piece's format and delivery. Because I wasn't exactly all too excited by its content doesn't mean I didn't enjoy reading it. I always enjoy a well written piece but I don't always feel compelled to post about it.
