If you talk with me, so I don't want "Butchering" anybody. I know that every map need testing - and 6 good player make this test and if creator of map don't want to know result of this testing I will not bother you.

hmm it seems I musta misunderstood your post. I understood it that you altered his map so that gates opened day 15 instead of 46 and that you made a tourniment for players to play on the map with these alterations. Instead you are telling me that you only made gates open at day 15 so you could test the map for bugs for laelth???
If this is the case then I apologize. My comlaint was that I thought you were altering how the map was intended to be played by the map maker.

hoher mentioned about a 30 days map, used for offline tournament. it acts like this : single player, 14 dayss for clearing his side, ANOTHER 15 for clearing computer side, then stop. day 30. game saved.
their armies(with all the stuff, artifacts, potion , formation) will be translated it to a new map for a battle only (called arena) (of course 2 armies at a time). who managed to have a better army/tactics/etc. will win this fight and the victory will be recorded. that's the way how arena works.
i repeat it for people who didn't know how it works, cause there are some, obviously. the map hasn't been butchered, just adapted to this kind of offline tournament, as well as the other TOH maps should be adjusted for MOD version, but some of us are against having a larger palette of maps where we can choose from instead of arguing for 1 map, even I offered myself volunteerly for such a work. We should communicate better, jinxer, i think this is a sort of "council" term explanation, otherwise it would have been called "the man in charge".
have a nice day
P.S. don't give me again that "should ask the mapmaker".
we can do that if hes active, and im pretty sure ALMOST all will accept the players' demands and find an optimal variant for the map to satisfy the tastes , as for those who are not around anymore, they won't mind to have their creation modified, cause their name will be there, no changes in author's input.

teach
you may just go for it! balco is working on 4lakes alrdy
.. if the result is satisfactory, we ll damn play it, toh page or not
however, these old maps need much more than a ToC style update to be worthwhile playing.. dunno if even worhwhile trying to reshape
how bout starting with eldorado btw? we tried starting it with kenny the other day.. and we both flee in fear, when realized how slow the start was(1st map phase needs an uplift)

Here's a copy of the notice at the bottom of my maps page:
Quote: Legal Notices: These maps are intended for personal use only and may not be distributed for profit, nor may they be posted on for-profit websites without the expressed written consent of the author (Laelth). They are copyrighted material and may not be altered in any way without the expressed written consent of the author. Individuals and non-profit organizations are welcome to download and post these maps, the associated graphics, and their descriptions on websites owned and operated by non-profit organizations, so long as in doing so these files are not altered in any way.
Admittedly, my principal concern is not wanting other people to profit from my work. I released my maps to the public for public enjoyment, not to enrich others at my expense. It doesn't sound like the organizers of the arena tournament have profited from my work, so I'm not too concerned. But, just to be clear, it is a violation of any mapmaker's rights to alter his or her intellectual property without permission.
Law school is very interesting!

This is very troubling. Tell me again why we bother to have a map council and honor council or a maps page, if as Insatiable says, H3ll with the rules, we will play and alter anything as we wish. You guys are really starting to lose site of the integrity of TOH and its basic structure.
I agree with teacher that alot of maps need to be refreshed, but I think it is insulting to take another players map and change it to fit your own personal preference, and call it a MOD balance. I think all original map makers should first make any updates to there maps. And if someone else decides to alter them they need to maintain the basic intention and integrity of the map.
I also agree with teacher that if a past map maker is no longer active or around it isnt as big of deal to get there permission, but I think it would be very insulting for example to take Laelths map Bizarro and make changes to it.
I like this whoel concept and idea, I just think we need to maintain some respect and integrity in doing this, and when I hear people say.....they dont care they will change the maps and play then regardless of rules or opinions, kinda defeats the purpose of an organized tourniment.

ofcourse, an email for permission to the author is most appropriate
and ofcourse, a non-reply means 'yes id love to'
i really cant see the argument here, finding authors emails is rather easy, sending 2 lines text easy too.. ..and jinx, i didnt mean that literally- about map page, i guess was trying to make a point*
*cause, as i understand this argument, real issue isnt authors permit.. but jinxer just dont want this to happen, by fear some old 'rushy 3week maps' revive..
no offence for spoting out the truth?

When I last played that map, I could barb rush my opponent on week 2, well you can call that slow, but I can't see the point.

Not sure why you guys always have to turn these discussions into Bash Jinxer, but anyways,
I could careless if some week3 rush maps are revived. They are week3 rush now and after they are refreshed they will be week 3 rush maps. My BIG concern is that someone will take a week 6 map and refresh it into a completely different map making it a week3 rush map.
As long as the maps keep there basic integrity, then balancing some issues of map is perfect idea.
I have some great ideas for Powerspot btw to better balance it I would offer them but figure you guys arent willing to actually discuss things, you just want to bash Jinxer
