Best Heroes in each class
I dont think that this was done before but lets pick three best heroes in each class. Here are my picks
Alchemists:
1. Neela Armorer Towers best hero.
2. Rissa Mercury Great secondary hero.
3. Fafner Nagas Not a great hero, but there arent better ones in Tower.
Wizards:
1. Cyra Haste Diplomacys great! Hastes great as well!
2. Solmyr Chain Lightning Makes a good scout.
3. Aine 350 gold Good Secondary Hero.
Knights:
1. Orrin Archery Good for Castle, even better for Tower.
2. Christian Ballista There is something that I really love about Ballista heroes.
3. Lord Haart Estates A walking mine. Great secondary hero.
However, if allowed Id pick Sir Mullich all the time. His +2 speed in battle gives him a great advantage.
Clerics:
1. Loynis Prayer My favorite spell!
2. Adela Bless Another favorite spell. And she has diplomacy as well.
3. Rion First Aid Comes with a tent. Other than that there is nothing special about him.
Rangers:
1. Kyrre Logistics Nice special!
2. Mephala Armorer Nice special!
3. Ryland Dendroids Comes with diplomacy! Or Thorgrim Resistance Not much to worry with this guy!
Druids:
1. Elleshar Intelligence Nothing special.
2. Gem First Aid Comes with a tent. Besides the only hero that starts with a Summon Boat spell.
3. Aeris Pegasi Good scout. Has scouting.
Demoniacs:
1. Pyre Ballista Again a ballista hero.
2. Marius Demons Comes with Armorer, and besides demons will be your main attacking force.
3. Octavia 350 gold Sexy beast! No wonder why Svarog likes her so much!
Of special notice is Rashka, the only might hero in the game that starts with wisdom!
Heretics:
1. Xyron Inferno A useful spell, too bad you cant cast it during the first week!
2. Xarfax Fireball Same as above.
3. Calid Sulfur Nice Secondary Hero. A walking mine.
Overlords:
1. Gunnar Logistics Nice special!
2. Shakti Troglodytes Gives the best start in the game with possibly 100+ troglodytes. Has tactics.
3. Dace Minotaurs Has tactics and Offense, Minos become deadlier than ever.
Warlocks:
1. Alamar/Jeddite Ressurection No comments.
2. Deemer Meteor Shower Powerful spell!
3. Sephinroth Crystals Nice secondary, especially for rampart and stronghold.
Death Knights:
1. Isra Necromancy Time to gather skeletons.
2. Galthran Skeletons Time to fight with skeletons.
3. Vokial Vampires Good hero.
A special award goes to Straker (walking dead) for being the most dangerous hero in the game. Zombies are Da Bomb!
Necromancers:
1. Thant Animate Dead The most terrible enemy!!!
2. Vidomina Necromancy Magic version of Isra.
3. Aislinn Meteor Shower Powerful spell!
Barbarians:
1. Crag Hack Offense Not much to say!
2. Gurnisson Ballista A ballista hero.
3. Gretchin Goblins Gives a good start in the game.
Battle Mages:
1. Dessa Logistics Nice special.
2. Gundula Offense She can cast spells too!
3. Saurug Gems Nice secondary hero.
Beastmasters:
1. Tazar Armorer Perhaps the best hero in the entire game.
2. Bron Basilisks May start with a few basilisks, which makes the game easier.
3. Drakon Gnolls I like this guy.
Witches:
1. Verdish First Aid Comes with a tent.
2. Mirlanda Weakness Not great, but still
3. Voy Navigation Great on water maps, otherwise useless.
Planeswalkers:
1. Monere Psychic elementals Has offense and logistics. Gives boosts to Psyschic elementals.

3. Luna Fire wall

Same, except for:
3. Torozar - Ballista specialty is useless, but tactics is nice. You'll really need it because up until week 4 Tower's main army will have a top speed of 7.
How Fafner make it as #3, btw? Nearly useless special combined with useless skills.
Knights:
1. Orrin - yep, quite nice for Tower and Castle. Orrin + golden bow = DEADLY. Orrin without the golden bow = can deal more than 100% ranged damage with the ranged penalty!
2. Tyris - TACTICS, nuff said.
3. Christian??? He is probably the worst ballista hero ever. Ballistics + leadership??? WTF? Free ballista is nice, though.
Clerics:
1. Adela DIPLO. Bless is also nice in the beginning - your pikes will do more than 2x their base damage. It works well on marksmen and archers as well.
2. Loynis Prayer is not bad indeed. Good chance to get expert water, and if you get Clone from the mage guild, he'll be unstoppable.
3. Caitlin - +350 gold.
Rion??? tent??? There truly isn't anything special about him.
Rangers:
1. Ryland DIPLO
2. Kyrre LOG
3. Ivor - Ivor&Elves = fast start on poor maps, why else play rampart?
4. Mephala - for those hardcore players who think that Rampart is the way to go on rich or long maps.
Druids:
1. Elleshar Intelligence If he gets expert earth + summon earth elemental and resurrection and if his enemy does not have a rechanter's cloak, Elleshar's 1000+ mana points will come in handy.
2. Coronius - Scholar + Wisdom. The 2-nd best secondary hero after alamar.
3. Nobody. Druids suck.
Heretics:
1. Ayden? Mana-wise he could be as good as Elleshar, BUT being a Heretic in an Inferno castle, his chance to get expert earth + earth ellie + res are close to 0. He may have some luck if he build the mage guilds in the neighboring necro towns.
2. Calid Sulfur.
3. Nobody. Heretics suck.
Overlords:
4-8. They are all good Perharps, the best hero class in the game.
Death Knights:
A special award goes to Straker (walking dead) for being the most dangerous hero in the game. Zombies are Da Bomb!
TRUE!!!
Barbarians:
1. Crag Hack Offense Not much to say!
2. Gurnisson Ballista A ballista hero.
3. Tyraxor - TACTICS, Offense, Wolf Specialist. Great for double build tactics.
Gretchin is ok, but not a match for Tyraxor.
Battle Mages:
1. Dessa Logistics Nice special.
2. Gundula Offense She can cast spells too!
3. Terek - TACTICS, HASTE specialty (very nice for Sstronghold).
4. Saurug Gems Nice secondary hero, the best you can get in tower's inn on week 1
Beastmasters:
1. Tazar Armorer Perhaps the best hero in the entire game.
2. Alkin - the evil teddybear, starts with armorer/offense, 2 of the best skills. His specialty is quite nice for Fortress too.
3. Gerwulf - ballista, he is a bit slow at first, but his ballista will be able to take more punishment.
4. Wystan - not a bad hero.
Drakon? Leadership?
Witches:
1. Andra - Intelligence. See Elleshar above.
2,3. Nothing. Witches suck.

...i dunno why all players leave out the sorcery specialists. Especially on randoms were anything can happen, they can be hell of being stronger than any none specialists.
I would take Grid for example any time over Tyris. Grid can take out Tyris easily anytime. Not to mention ol Malekith as there can always be a nice Armageddon in Guild. Reminds me on a game on unedited Blockbuster when i found a Armaggedon spellscroll. Day 6 i got the curiass easily and then through the heavy block with Zydar and just sultans on. Took his town on day 1 new week...there was nothing what he can do..not to mention his surprise when i broke through a horde of behemots.

Marius with his specialty is a good hero for Inferno, but level 4 creature specialty isn't as strong as it looks. A decent artifact will compensate for it. He is good on long or rich maps, but there is a high chance that his 2-nd skill will be crap. Pyre, on the other hand, starts with LOG. Ballista helps her a lot too because Inferno army is so weak in the beginning. I was able to beat a pack of manticores on week 1 with her on a poor template (i.e. no devils - only efreets, imps, gogs and BALLISTA). I only lost a few imps. It wouldn't be possible with any other inferno hero. Pyre will be ahead of marius for the first couple of weeks at least.
But putting Nymus 2-nd, ahead of Pyre??? What's up with that???

Its because that on most templates: jebus, bb, extreme 1 and 2 etc you could actually use more than 8 skills, so its very important that you get 8 perfect skills. You need log, pf, earth, air, off, armorer and tactics. So you have one skill left. If you are unlucky with 1 skill then you will miss one of these, besides skills like resistance, wisdom, (archery for some towns) and fire magic are much better in the long run as 8th skill.

would you take fire magic if it was offered as the 2-nd skill?
Actually, it would be interesting to test the chances of different heroes like Hack, Tazar or Marius to get a good or crap skill as the 2-nd, but I am too lazy to do it.

I'm not familiar with all heroes yet and am consequently not the best adviser at this, but I agree with Angelito, Maretti and Russ (and partly with Ratmonkey and Tigris), with minor differences between the three and my personal choices. We all know that these picks are not the same in certain circumstances, so it's tough to have a definite order.
I always go as main heroes for logistics (if allowed - which not often happens ), Armor/Offence specialists (might first, but Gundula's not bad either), followed by might heroes having Tactics, Offence and Armorer as secondary skills (best if the specilty helps, too). Logistics is first choice because can overcome the lesser might by speed in exploring the map and gathering skills/artifacts. But you all know this, so why repeat it?

Tower
Alchemist
Neela - armourer (she's the best tower hero, albeit with a slot wasted on scholar)
Iona - Mastergenies and intelligence
Torosar - Ballista
Wizard
Solmyr - chain lightning (he is unbelievably useful when you need to take mines quickly or clear your area... give him a few troops and off you go, since most maps have quite a few magic wells)
Cyra - Haste and diplo
Aine - money (i would place daremyth here if her special wasn't luck, luck has no effect after +3, while +350 gold is always good)
Castle
Knight
Tyris - who doesn't want extra damage on a champion?
Sorsha - really puts that double hit into good use
Orrin - archery master
Cleric
Loynis- Prayer (really really useful spell to have)
Adela- nice skill of diplo, it covers up for her bad spec
Ingham - had no other choice...i'd rather have some extra stats for my poor monks than get some spell like frost ring or something...
Rampart
Ranger
Mephala - armourer!!!
Kyrre- log specialty
Ryland - dendroids AND diplo? can't pass it up!
Druid
Elleshar - never runs out of spells... elleshar is the type of hero who does 5 DDs a day, every day.
Aeris - stats for pegasi... nice scout as well
Coronius - slayer... just for the sake that he's quite bad, but a tad better than the rest of the druids.
Necropolis
Death Knight
Isra - skellies galore!
Galthran - skellies galore again!
Vokial - vampires, and you can play dodge game with VLs as your ballista takes them down.
Necromancer
Thant - impossibly good person to start with
Vidomina - skellies galore!
Aislinn - meteor shower is rather good to use.
Inferno
Demoniac
Rashka - efreeti, and he starts with wisdom too
Marius - useful if you are demon farming AND she has armourer
Ignatius - decent amount of starting troops, even though imps are useless.
Heretic
Zydar - more and more and more damage with spells
Ayden - keep your sp there
Xarfax - uhh fireball? heretics are useless...
Dungeon
Overlord
Gunnar - log log log!
Dace - powerful minotaur kings with high morale...
Lorelei - she seems useless... but those harpy hags pack quite an annoying punch
Warlock
Alamar/Jeddite - ressurection
Malekith - sorcery is usefull...VERY!
Stronghold
Barbarian
Crag Hack - offense specialist... no competition at all
Tyraxor - even stronger double hits for wolf raiders
Shiva - decent scout, nice thunderbirds too
Battle Mage
Dessa - log specialty!
Gundula - offense AND she can cast spells too
Terek - haste... and tactics
Fortress
Beastmaster
Tazar - armourer specialist
Alkin - mighty mighty moos
Drakon - extra boost to starting army (gnolls are always underestimated)
Witch
Andra - intelligence... sp sp sp
Styg - sorcery... pretty good
Mirlanda - weakness (i'm not sure how much the effectiveness of weakness increases, thats if it does at all...)
Conflux
Planeswalker
Monere - psychic elementals, offense AND tactics (what a good combo!)
Lacus - ADVANCED tactics (gives your sprites the opportunity to reach ranged attackers FIRST round... you lose less troops )
Fiur - nice offense
Elementalist
Ciele - magic arrow (good for beginning, useless after week 3 or so)
Luna - firewall is good when playing around with the AI.
Brissa - Haste goes to good use, even though it's not a really good spec to have, however, she DOES start with air magic!
