difficult...
Hi Titan_888,
good to hear some opinion about it - even if you're not on my side
I think the main point which disturbed me was the fact that I was called a cheater and been insulted. I see the situation as problematic and maybe a compromise could have been found. Best thing would have been to give a clear definition at the beginning of the game.
Now back to my case
I couldn't see my opponent's army exactly... may also have been 1 behemot and 11 (is that a pack?) tbirds... don't know if I lost that one.
IMO, if he sends his main into "hot territory" he should be prepared to get attacked. If that wouldn't be allowed, his main, only equipped with some mediocre army, could attack me on my territory.. knowing he will win cause of stats or at least causing some serious damage while using his full army somewhere else on the board (with some weaker hero).
So I had to do something and weakening his army isn't the worst idea... he's got enough ressources to build high level mage guild and 3 rounds of battle should be enough to counter my so-called hit and run. Anyways, it's a difficult case...

Hi haile
Yes its a difficult situation. I understand why your get upset because he calls you a cheater etc.
But i have some main reason that i play with.
I play both types of games. some games without hit and run and some games with no rules at all.
But 1 thing doesnt change. I play to be as fair as possible.
I play the game to end up in a final battle wich is challengning for both part of the game.
Unfortunately its hard to combine tournament games with this attitude (for some people), but i learned after 200+ games how to feel most relaxed in games, and most of all try to give my opponent a good and fair game.
I must say i have done bad moves, strategies during my time, but offcourse i never intend to upset my opponent. i felt that what i did was ok!! i mean i dont consider hit and run as cheating, and i suppose the resistance level is somehow created to provide this.
playin without rules, does bring out the true hero and shows the true skills.
Only a true warrior/hero plays without rules.
Good luck all

Everything in HOMM can be reduced to hit and run. Where to draw the line between acceptable and not acceptable? I say don`t even try to find your marker... HOMM is great as is. HOMM3 that is.

Yea thats a good idea
Imagine how many "active" messages he (who???? ) would get if we all throw a magic arrow to 3D0 and then ran

This is the EXACT DEFINITION of hit & run:
"You are so incredibly stupid, ves should put u in hall of shame"
Everyone complaining about hit&run should immediately be put in hall of shame.
There are no rules in toh, there is no hit & run
Thats probably because all the cheating lil idiots would whine about "rules" to get out of a loss. And thatīs why I would like everyone that complains about hit & run to be put in HOS right away, cause most of the time, thatīs where they end up.

strange
I find it puzzling that some highly respected players rely on some sort of subjective code of fairness in this game to judge when to use tactics that are legal in a game. I generally want a chess-like experience with some added oomph and camaraderie from HOMM. If a chess opponent decided not to make a certain move because I wouldn't expect it or it might make me angry, and I found that out, unless there was a huge disparity in our skills and the opponent was instructing me, I would be extremely angry and maybe even consider the other player's conduct dishonorable and at the least extremely condescending (Who is he to decide what's sportsmanlike? I thought WE agreed on no rules before the game).
Certainly the world is full of playing styles but if I come up one inch short of the castle, etc., I EXPECT to be H&R by a good player (within the time limit of course ). Maybe there are cultural forces at work here that I don't understand, but I find it amusing that players would ever need to ask if a legal tactic not disallowed in advance would p.o. the other guy (unless there were no turn time limit and the tactic would take forever, we are online after all). IMO the point of the game is to play, enjoy and then move on to the next game. Are there other views that I'm not considering?

if u belong in HOS just for complaining about H+R then please put my Name in there rightaway. But in my opinion i got the right to complain if someone brakes a rule he agreed/insisted on intentionally.

Well i guess must issues concerning h/r are about misunderstandings. Thats why i always ask my opponent too "define H/R" when we play.
My view of H/R is casting a dmg spell and retreat/surrender same turn but i accept other versions of it aswell, dont think it matters too much. The main thing is that both players knows what the other one means when he says no h/r.

But what if you play chess with "no rules" and the other player decides to move his king 5 squares in one move, over a bunch of peasants, and not 1 move like heīs supposed to?

white widow
Is that white widow I smell in the air Bjorn? LOL. The Homm3 software sets ground rules, i.e. a dwarf doesn't have 30 hp. The chess software between the players ears keeps one player from jumping the pawns. If you are saying that when people agree on rules, breaking them is wrong, I agree. But it seems that there is an attitude among some, and they are among the homm veterans, that the concept of honorable play involves not taking advantage of every feature of the game to win. This is what I can't understand. Maybe if you have made friends playing homm, you don't want to lose their friendship over a legitimate but cheesy tactic, i.e. "imp bomb." This makes some sense, but would hope that the friends made on line want to play the best game. After all there's always another game to be played when the shoe may be on the other foot.

Chess is full of comparable tactics that are more difficult to prevent and 1000000 times harder to foresee than hit and run. Playing a deep strategic game has not much use if you donīt prevent the opponentīs tactics from working, and quite often in chess you need to make use of tactical solutions in order to convert a strategic advantage into a win.
In Heroes 3, if your strategic play has made you get the fastest creature, a magic hero with huge knowledge and spell power, and all the resources to build a level 5 mage guild or two, and your opponent has not managed to find a countertactic, a win by hit and run is the logical and well-deserved result.
