Poll Question:
Democracy raping - Svarog's vote on sale

In several days elections will be held in Macedonia for the local government. The candidates running for the position of city mayor of Skopje (the capital) both suck and I’m having troubles making up my mind. I keep thinking that whoever I vote for, the feeling of guilt over the wrong pick would be unbearable, for a fragile person such as myself. I figured since foreigners direct the country’s policies anyway, why don’t we have a small election here and decide where my vote should go in the spirit of the mutual “partnership” between Macedonia and the world. Thus we’ll all share the responsibility when the mayor proves incompetent, what has been a historical innevitability so far. So, let me present you this years outstanding samples of potential mayors.

Candidate 1: Penov – Penov has been mayor for the past 8 years, and is running for a third mandate. Eight years is a long time and might be considered a chronical tumour in healthy democratic communities. He’s president of the Liberal-democratic party, but he won both past mandates thanks to his talent for political prostitution, i.e. coalition with the two major parties at the time, both angry rivals. This year he’s a candidate of the ruling Social-democrats (naturally, the party with highest public support) and their satelites (including Penov’s liberal-democrats). He has indeed completed several major projects for the city in the past years, and many smaller ones, but Skopje still looks like a trash hole, polluted and with bad traffic. His activities progress in an odd cyclical manner - every 2 years, just before parlamentary and local elections (certainly not that there is connection) work resumes on idle projects. There are only smaller corruption scandals that mark his administration. Penov himself has only modestly abused politics to get richer, i.e. upper middle class (which is almost incorruptable innocence for Macedonian standards). This year he seems to have gone a “little” too far with his fictive promises, so basically nothing spectacular’s gonna happen. He did however promise to lengthen the working time of cafes by 1 hour; instead till midnight/1 AM during the weekend, it’ll be till 1AM/2 AM during the weekends, which is one certain benefit to come if he’s elected. He also seems to know a lot about the city and governing, but then again you have to be retarded if you know nothing in 8 years of doing to job.

Candidate 2: Kostovski – Trifun Kostovski is the richest man in Macedonia. He owns several companies, sport teams, medias, a Rolls Royce etc. Kostovski’s a crapitalist pig that got his fortune through suspicious deals during the plunder of the collective society’s capital and enterprises. A proof of his outstanding qualities as “honest businessman” being the fact that he started out as a clerk in a state-owned company and no familly heritage, and ended up as a Macedonian Bill Gates. He’s stayed out of public politics so far, maintaining an image of people’s man by financing many projects (especially churches), donating for charity and the rest of the farce rich crapitalists do. He loves to show off as humanitarian and given the chance, he’d do anything to improve his flamboyant reputation. His occasional political involvements were always in favour of causes supported by the large majority, so he’s created quite a brand from himself, as a man always speaking the truth and always on the side of justice (lol). These elections he’s an independent candidate supported by the opposition block (mainly right-centrist parties) and many civil associations. His political profile is hard to define. He seems mildly nationalistic (but always speaks in favour of multiculturalism); true Christian believer; proponent of traditional values; but at the same time speaks of social equality and injustice. I guess his only political trait you can bet on for sure is populism. What I cant deny about him is that he is an able and responsible businessman, whose investments in sport (handball) has brought one Macedonian team to win the League of Champions and become a true nation’s pride. In his campaign, he emphasizes support for private business initiatives in the city. Unfortunately for Kostovski, despite all the rhethorics, he knows sh!t about the city and city menaging, which he desparately tried to hide in his first TV duel with his opponent.

Who shall it be, HC? Let the voting begin.

Penov the prostitute

Voted Penov.

*Description of him was just more appealing to me.
*A lot, if not all, politicians are party prostitutes, so I don't see this being a downside for him in particular.
*Devil you know, minimize damage, etc.

It doesn`t seem like any of the two will do anything worthwhile during theit mandate, so it`s pretty much all same. I`ll abstain for now.

Good idea, IVY...

Isn't there any 3rd party you could vito for to keep your conciousness clean?

If you're intending to go through with this act of prostitution, you should take it to the limit. But voting for a Christian, semi-nationalist crapitalist? I dunno...

So I think I'm gonna have to go for #1. But isn't it possible to vote blank? You know, to show your malcontent?

There are three other candidates from the Albanian parties, but since they wont get in the second round, they are there just as formality. Besides, they dont attempt to reach to any Macedonians, and their agendas are built on purely nationalist principles.
Not voting? Hmm, I will go out on elections alright, because there are several other voting lists. And u may get the impression that I'm not satisfied with the fellas, but here thats the average quality offer we get for elections. I know, we'd be better off with a monarch, but I still havent decided to quit HC and dedicate to my royal duties.

Here's who we're voting for:

Still Penov for me. Sure, he looks like Radovan Karadzic, but at least he doesn't put up one of those horrible fake smiles...

And I'd take a demagogue over a crapitalist any day...

Just for those of you who've never seen the fair visage of Radovan Karadzic (an infamous (Serb?) war criminal from the Balkan wars, IIRC), here something for you to compare Penov to:

They have certain similarities, yeah? Let's just hope it's only on the outside, eh?

HC is a curse. You, dear men and women, have voted:
Penov - 6
Kostovski - 3

The citizens of Skopje voted:
Penov - 36% (+1 Svarogish vote, roughly worth 5%)
Kostovski - 50%

I guess we dont have luck with this election thing. First Bush, now this... We're always for the wrong one.
Oh well, good luck for yet another power hungry crapitalist. At least I'll sleep with a clear conscience, content with the fact that if anything turns messy (or good), its HC who blew it, not me.

Question:

Is there anyone here who can tell me more about Bobby Fischer? I read an article describing the guy as a popular chess player who went against U.S. sanctions and played a major chess match in public with somebody from the former Yugoslav republic. I feel like I'm not getting the whole picture. I know there must be more details to this story. Is there anyone here who knows anything else related to this guy or what's going on? The article also said he was being detained in Japan for being a wanted U.S. criminal. It also said he was looking to gain citizenship in Iceland and revoke his american citizenship. I'm not sure but I think it included him wanting to be a German or something.

lol. That just goes to prove how biased US medias are. U call your brightest minds "wanted criminals" simply because they played a game of sport with a guy from a country that happens to be under sanctions. Thats his only "crime".

LOL

The best thing is Clinton admitted the USA went against UN and their own sanctions and exported arms to Bosnia during the civil war. On the other hand, a game of chess is a serious crime indeed...

It's Official

Iceland's Parliament has officially voted in favor of allowing citizenship to Fischer. He is currently being detained in Japan as per U.S. law in violation of sanctions against former Yugoslavia. Japan has refused to release him without citizenship to Iceland. After voting against allowing him to be citizen, the Iceland parliament have now seemed to change their minds. This means he is a free man unless U.S. government tries to intervene against international law.

I hope he makes it to Iceland and eventually becomes the German national that he wants to be. I disagree with my country's government in treating him as a criminal for playing chess.
