Well . . .

I am personally having difficulty with this. At some point there is a disconnect between:

A person who has sought public office

and . . .

A person who has not sought the office yet the people cry out for their service

Perhaps if I had studied law then I might understand this process better. If you love a person so much and soon find that they refuse to be your leader, what then? Perhaps it is a simple case of a person choosing to lead. Perhaps it is simply a choice. I don't know.

George Washington did not seek the office but we sought him. We loved him. His people loved him. And soon he returned the love by accepting his peoples' cry for a diligent and courageous leader. He accepted it. The people accepted him. Thus they loved him and their children's children grew to love him. He was a great man. He was a loving and caring man. He was responsible and accepted the responsibility of his people.

I hearken back to a book once published by Leonard Nimoy. Early in his career he felt the need to clearly seperate himself from his character on Star Trek. His book was entitled, "I Am Not Spock". Years after he had struggled with the idea that there was some part of him found in the character he then wrote yet another book entitled, "I Am Spock". It also reminds me of the philisophic mantra preached by Bill Cosby . . . that no matter what character you play, there will always be some part of you within the character. And there will always be some part of the character you play within yourself. This, he says, is an important thing to understand because an actor must accept some of the responsibility for playing the role.

Oprah is a Television personality. Can she really expect that after having received so much money and favors from people that she can now do what she wants with it? Nothing in life is free. With the acceptance of donations came the unspoken and unwritten consent of her constituents. In theory, a donation is supposedly free. But seriously . . . it's people we're talking about here. People aren't always logical or ethical . . . they are emotional and often spiritual which seem to historically defy logic and ethics. People are people: Imperfect, Emotional, Loving, Jealous, Zealous, Fanatic, and often Illogical.

How far have we truly come in our grand scale of human evolution?

Your Attention Please:

Senator Clinton has begun an exploratory comittee to run for the office of United States President. She says, "I'm in".

If she wins the presidency I will enter a request for moderatorship here at Heroes Community, and petition the Mage of the Land for a sword beneath my avatar! I look forward to pleading my case for a spot among the local champions!

Welcome To The Repbulican Party!

A young woman was about to finish her first year of college. Like so many others her age, she considered herself to be a very liberal Democrat, and was very much in favor of the redistribution of wealth. She was deeply ashamed that her father was a rather staunch Republican, a feeling she openly expressed. Based on the lectures that she had participated in, and the occasional chat with a professor, she felt that her father had for years harbored an evil, selfish desire to keep what he thought should be his. One day she was challenging her father on his opposition to higher taxes on the rich and the addition of more government welfare programs. The self-professed objectivity proclaimed by her professors had to be the truth and she indicated so to her father. He responded by asking her how she was doing in school. Taken aback, she answered rather haughtily that she had a 4.0 GPA, and let him know that it was tough to maintain, insisting that she was taking a very difficult course load and was constantly studying, which left her no time to go out and party like other people she knew. She didn't even have time for a boyfriend, and didn't really have many college friends because she spent all her time studying. Her father listened and then asked, "How is your friend Audrey doing?" She replied, "Audrey is barely getting by. All she takes are easy classes, she never studies, and she barely has a 2.0 GPA . She is so popular on campus, college for her is a blast. She's always invited to all the parties, and lots of times she doesn't even show up for classes because she's too hung over." Her wise father asked his daughter, "Why don't you go to the Dean's office and ask him to deduct a 1.0 off your 4.0 GPA and give it to your friend who only has a 2.0. That way you will both have a 3.0 GPA and certainly that would be a fair and equal distribution of GPA." The daughter, visibly shocked by her father's suggestion, angrily fired back, "That wouldn't be fair! I have worked really hard for my grades! I've invested a lot of time, and a lot of hard work! Audrey has done next to nothing toward her degree. She played while I worked my tail off!" The father slowly smiled, winked and said gently, "Welcome to the Republican Party".

You missed an important point.

At a different university...

This university has 5 students. One of them is a 4.0 student and the other four are 2.0 students.  Dean Smith takes 1 point from the 4.0 student and gives the other four students .25 points each.

Mr. Jones claims that only .4 points should be taken from the 4.0 student and the 2.0 students receive .1 points each.

This university does things a little differently, the Dean is elected  by the students.  Mr. Jones is running against Dean Smith. Who wins the election?

There's a saying "don't bite the hand that feeds you".  It's also called buying votes.

Ha!

English Nobility? Is it possible you could have mistaken my avatar with my real life self? Have you checked my profile lately/at all?

Born in Texas + Speaks/Reads/Writes English = English nobility ???

You must've missed the Princess Diana thread in which I had to ask Asmodean what certain British phrases meant. English is not so English here in America my friend, especially in the southern state of Texas where Mark Twain became the first to show the world how "my people" actually use the English language in his novel Huckleberry Finn. I can reassure you I was raised an American southerner.

You Know What . . .

I'm going to post again because I'm simply getting angry over that comment. I have absolutely no ties to any nobility of any country in the world. My grandfather on my Dad's side was a Texas oil field peasant and my grandfather on my mother's side was the son of a small town treasurer in west Texas. He went off and served in the United States Navy during World War II. When the latter came home and went to college to become a doctor, he was asked to end his college studies to come home and work for his mother and sisters because they had no man to do the things that needed to be done back then. So he quit his college cold turkey to go home help his mother.

My mother was a runaway hippie and my father was a copier machine technician who was fired during a mass lay-off back in the 1980's from Xerox corporation. Both my parents were/are drug users, smokers, drinkers, and can barely hold down a job of any kind for more than a few years. My family moved around a lot when I was growing up not because we were military or loved to travel. My Dad kept getting fired from his job and my mother is bipolar plus other mental disorders. She even tried to kill me with garden sheers once for wanting to play my 8-bit Nintendo. My Dad dropped out of high school as a freshman because he didn't like people telling him what to do. During the Vietnam draft he was already serving over in Germany but was kept mostly on lockdown because of his poor behavior. He also lost rank on more than one occasion for threatening/fighting a superior ranking guy while he was drunk.

I myself have worked in a grocery store, theme park, and served as a United States airman doing mostly medical jobs.

You have no right to tell me that I am writing in such a way that represents myself as anything other than MY SELF. I am me. Don't call me "Nobility".

I never said you were a noble or anything. I said how your speech reminds me of how they speak. Sheesh. I know you're not a noble. They're too dumb and too busy playing their retarded sports like badmington and polo to play heroes, let alone go to a heroes forum.
However, since I see it pisses you off, from now on I'll call you Sir Consis the Noble.

TheDeath is right. I don't understand why you're so sensitive about everything, Cons... Mind if I call you Cons? It's just short for Consis, nothing with offending intentions.
Look, the forums are here for screwing around. A joke here, a town there, those are all parts of HC. I was kidding when I said I'm going to call you Sir Consis the Noble, I mean didn't you read the last line of my post? "Feel the bitter scourge of my immaturity"? You didn't think I was serious about that, did you?
Sheesh... You can't be so serious about everything in life, where's the fun in that? Plus you'll get insane eventually if you take every joke (or even comparison) personally.
Here's a friendly advice: listen to Madness, preferrably "One Step Beyond". That will cheer you up.

Well . . .

If you were joking then I'm not angry anymore at all. I didn't know you were joking. Eh . . . actually it is one of the things I'm well-known for around here: not being able to tell a joke or understand one. That's what got me in trouble with The_Gootch. He's a really funny guy and I used to respond to his jokes with my infamous misguided opposing zeal. I'm not sensitive about everything.

I thought you called me a person who was born into wealth and opportunity. In my family from as far back as stories have been told and passed down, my family has prided itself on accomplishments through blood, sweat, and tears. My father would often say, "Nobody never gave me nuthin". It is something we (his children) are very very proud of. When he says it, he is telling people that he doesn't need their help and never asked for it. He is saying he could do things on his own, no matter how difficult. He was very proud of how ignoble he was. He passed this philosophy down to me and my brothers and sisters.

Some people have implied that I display moments of arrogance. If I am arrogant then you have every right to tell me I'm behaving arrogantly. If I am ignorant then you should rightly call me that too. I would be forced to re-evaluate my post. But to call me noble as defined by nobility. . . this implies that either I am (by lineage and priviledge) or that I wish/long to be nobility; better than everyone else; above the common man; lawfully priviledged; higher status; ordained by a higher power to be the common man's leader in some fashion.

Perhaps my father's philosophy is combined with common American history. It is very close to my deepest and strongest beliefs in myself. We didn't want any part of being in a system of government that afforded priviledge by birth. That word sets off some very deep feelings in me. It goes against everything I was ever raised to believe.

Of course there is another explanation, it is possible that I'm simply a drama queen at times.

Did George W. Bush come into power because he was smart or because he was the ex-president's son?
Besides, America is far from not giving privileges by birth. First, as for history, remember the South. People were slaves just because they were born with a different colour of skin. Second, think about a common civilian (by the way that word was invented by the armies because they couldn't sleep well if they said something like "6 men, 7 women and two children died when we threw bombs in their chimneys", and they could say "15 civilians have disappeared during the action" instead...) killed in actions in Iraq, or Vietnam, or wherever. They died because they weren't born American and were accidentally in the way of a US operation. Finally, please name one child of any senator or governer that was mobilised and forced to go to war in Iraq or Vietnam. System of a Down has a great song, "BYOB", in which is said "Why don't presidents fight the war? Why do they always send the poor?"
So much about birth privileges in the USA.
