Not a Sport Addict? Come here!

I made this thread for people who dont like sport.
(hate is such a strong word)

I myself dont like sport very much. I'm just telling anyone out there who doesnt like sport that they are not alone. This is a place to talk about how much you hate everytime you were teased because you cant catch or throw or run (or cant be bothered to waste your time lazing on the couch watching others do so)

This is where you can express your hate for every sport obssesed idiot who thinks just because you dont like sport that your gay (not that theres a problem with being gay)

I am by no means claiming that all sports fans are idiots, im just saying sometimes some people think they're better than someone just because they can catch a ball, or they think lesser of some one because they cant, that can really hurt their fellings.

How i hate every time someone says to me "you dont like sport because you suck at it and you're weak" and i just tolerate it but if i were to say to them "you dont like poetry because your a one minded idiot with no independent thoughts and opinions" they wouldnt hesitate to throw a punch.

How you hated/hate being forced to play sport in school.

I recently found a site where i found out im not alone in my disliking of sport. Before that i kinda felt lonely.

I dont think that children should be tought that its ok to attack someone to get a ball. (and they wonder why there is so much violence in the world)

This is by no means a thread to tell anyone specific that you hate them. But i guess if you talk about a general overveiw it should be ok.

(dont use the word hate in reference to people too much either i dont want thread deleted)

But maybe im the only person on HC who doesnt like sport...

btw, if someone can come up with a better name for the thread without using the word hate or loathe please do.
(that name was seriously the best one i could think of)

ps: sorry if someone has done this before. sorry for all the spaces as well (it looked more packed together when i made it)

"Don't Like Sports?" (Er, something like that)

I've never really been into playing sports. For that matter, I've never really been physically fit. Physical Education came as a "forced" activity for me; sometimes it was okay, but other times I'd wish I didn't have to be there.

PE took me into nearly all of the major American sports varieties, from baseball to basketball to volleyball. The main thing about these experiences that bugged me was that I had to make a strong effort to do well. I not only had to make it happen in front of my peers, but also for my grade. It felt very lousy to be practically the only person in a class of twenty to not be into the sports at all.

The last year at my first high school went very badly. I was slowly failing in academics and things were very turning very ugly in my spirit towards school. PE was a class where I could temporarily break away from the stresses of my other core subjects and do something different. I really tried hard to be good at sports that year, although that isn't to say I improved much. Even though I showed effort, the academic portion continued to slant downward when the PE "tests" came along. Exams tested us on our knowledge of the sports; studying a thick wad of papers was required. I got burned out trying to study these along with my other school responsibilities, so I bombed each PE exam. I think I got a low C grade for the PE class, so go figure.

I left that school and entered a new high school. I excelled academically there, but PE was still something I was only so-so at doing. I had to take PE during my senior year. Fortunately, honest effort was all that was required of me and I didn't have to take any tests. I just went along with my attempts as cooly as possible. I eventually got to play two sports that I didn't mind at all: Soccer and Bowling.

Those were very cool. Especially soccer, because it doesn't take much to just kick a ball; at least there isn't much to do with the arms. I'm very good at blocking the ball from entering my team's goal, so I played one of the defender guys. It reminded me of a computer game in some instances, and I viewed it as being fun.

I don't have any opportunities to play soccer nowadays, but I still have some fun memories of playing it. Otherwise, I'll just take bowling. I am a noob at pretty much everything else. Well, I have played and enjoyed badminton too.

in response to ur posts i think that there is a sport that u love niceguy u just havent found it yet. may i suggest skeleton. as for the title, what about "u dont like sport eh, well then come here"

and to guitarguy, have u ever played beach soccer? i have never played it because i live a few hours from any beach but i have always wanted to try and its also good to hear that u like soccer

i pretty much like all sports but my favourites would have to be soccer, tabble tennis, tennis and chess if thats a sport and oh yea gambling

my school doesnt force u into PE because u have to bring PE clothes every PE practical lesson. if u dont ur grade slips.

i play soccer on the weekends for a local club. i usually play in the midfield somewhere but i have played in defence and attack aswell. i have scored 3 goals from midfield this season so im pretty happy

as for table tennis this is one of my favs cause i am very good. i can beat pretty much anyone in my school, that i have played with, except a few seniors.

and now for tennis. i play tennis cause my brother used to play so i had a go. i used to be good but i stopped playing a few years back. if i was to play now u could see i had played before but im a bit rusty.

Nope i dont like any except maybe an impartialness to bowling. but im not saying that there isnt a sport i like, if you believe cards is a sport then thats what i like. I'm saying i dont like some peoples attitude towards sport. This isnt everyone but sometimes people get way too pissed off when the team they support loses and they're just in a crappy mood all day, that just makes the world a sadder place.

Your schools gave you grades in PE, GuitarGuy?  Mine worked on the satisfactory/not satisfactory system.  As long as you got an "S" (i.e. showed up), you were fine.

I don't care for sports myself.  The baseball family -- baseball, softball, T-ball, kickball, wiffleball, big base, et cetera, ad nauseum -- are particularly irritating.   I spent many a gym class hiding in the far outfield hoping the ball never came near me.  I also allowed more eager classmates to overlook my turn at bat.    Volleyball was also problematic, since positions were set and if the ball came to you, you couldn't avoid it.  Soccer was easier.  If you sort of jogged up and down the field for the duration of the game, you'd look like you were playing without ever being responsible for the ball.  "Avoid the ball at all costs" was my motto for PE.  Needless to say, I was excellent at dodgeball.

That being said, disinterest in competitive sports doesn't translate into being out of shape.  Swimming doesn't need to be competitive: Laps and goofing around in the water are a lot of fun, and no one judges your performance.  Since swimming is rather inconvenient, though, my exercise of choice is walking.  It saves gas, gets you interesting places, easily takes the 30-60 min/day they recommend for health, and is a great meditative activity to boot.  I also like dancing in the privacy of my room.    Social dance is more work and more public, but it's a great way to take care of gym credits in college.  You end up with all the other non-competitive, non-athletes and everyone sucks, so no one stands out for being less than stellar.  Also, at least at my college, there were always more women in the class than men, some of them cute women, so it's a good deal for the leads.

To take yet another turn, my brothers are as non-athletic as I am, but they do some sports stuff.  It's not about the sports themselves.  They're not passionate about playing touch (American) football or frisbee, not passionate about the teams or leagues.  It's about the comraderie; they have something to talk about with both friends and perfect strangers.  Neither brother invests much time in sports.  They rarely watch games, and only one of them bothers to check scores in the paper.  If sports annoy you so much, you might want to just concentrate on another common topic for chitchat and noncommittal activities: movies, TV, the weather, etc.  While my brothers maintain some fluency in sportstalk, their genuine interests tend towards movies.  If you hit on a movie both you and the person you're conversing with have seen, you automatically have discussion fodder for at least five minutes.  Since I don't care for either sports or movies, I lean towards books, although I can usually hold up the questioning end of a movies conversation.  It's all the same idea.

People hostile to those who don't share their interest...that I don't understand.

I'm not awfully fond of sports as well, but I always enjoy a good game when I have someone of my level to play, no matter what sport it is. I particularly like volleyball, swimming, "actual" football, table tennis, badminton, running (v much) etc. But if all who play are better than me and get the game too seriously (as well as my performance), I wont be too happy to participate. I guess the old rule: "u dont like what u r not good at" still rules.

I don't like competitive sports, especially team-based ones. Kayaking, canoeing, hiking, fighting (boxing, martial arts, fencing), skiing, working-out are all fine by me. Football (both kinds), basketball, baseball and hockey all make me sick.

Yeah i hate it when people depend on me. i always fail misserably, then they get pissed even after i warned them of my crappiness. team sports are the worst.

actually what i really hate was when my parents forced me to learn to swim. i hate how they make you blow bubbles etc. i hated it and i still cant swim to this day, what a waste of time.

I don't like swimming because I prefer to keep my clothes on. I'm a conservative guy to the extreme at times, so you can imagine my distress at being forced to swim in a PE class. Which I had to once.

Yeah, I hated baseball. The only good thing about the sport at all (that I'm aware of) is the hot dogs and Pepsi. No, I'm being honest here. Trying to hit the baseball is like trying to swat a fly with your little finger! Plus, I never really figured out when to switch bases. "Hey you! Stop! Don't run yet!" Then I'd be like "Let me know when to run". Not that anybody remembered to let me know, by which I'd end up running to the next base over five seconds later than I should. Sure, it's easy to understand, but back then I got paranoid when I had to make my move. Sometimes you just can't function correctly when you're under that kind of pressure. I always preferred playing as the fielders, because for some reason I never had to do anything. Heck, it felt great.

Ack! I remember having to run the mile at my old school. The upside was that my PE teacher said I can run pretty fast. The downside is that not long before the first seven minutes of running fast, I'm out for good. So I basically spent the rest of the laps just dragging myself along the ground. I didn't exercise much then, and not a whole lot more now.
