my first ever pc game wasnt an rpg
no...if my screwy memory will listen to me...mmm...i think it space invaders on the Commodore 16. i was 10yrs old and I hated it cos you could never buy the games like you do now...noooo...you had to sit there and program it yourself by typing the actual game code in, pages and pages of it, then use the cassette player to record it, if you made one itty bitty mistake, you had to start all over again by re-typing the whole thing!!
for those young ones out there, when you made a mistake, it didnt show where the mis-type is, just an error msg in dos, invalid command or something like that. programming in Basic is...well...basic! Not like Java or C++ or anything fancy!...the only good part was that, cos it was all stored on cassettes, you could just go out and buy another if you wanted to play something else that wasnt already recorded!!
20yrs down the track, i'm glad i can shop in EB and buy what i want without having to type it all up first!!

First game that I really remember was Civilization. There were some games before on Commodore, but I don't remember any of them.
I thought that irrigation are parts of cities, like suburbs and it took me really long time to discover that you can build anything, inside or outside

What was the program with the triangular "turtle" that drew lines? Logo or something? That's what we played with in computer class in first grade. Later, the school got real games like Number Munchers.
At home, I had an IBM-compatible which played Midnight Rescue, Outnumbered, and Math Blaster. There was a theme to the games my mom let into the house. Also, I had Operation Neptune and a weird game called ThinkQuick. That link says it was for an Apple II; my version was run via DOS. My first RPG was King's Quest VI on the Mac, a gift from my uncle.

The first game(s) I played in the B.W.(Before Windows) era, was ladder, horse race, and something similar to Space Invaders on an old Kaypro(only one color, which was green). After Windows came out, the first I played was either Oregon Trail, or Command & Conquer, or Heroes 1(not real sure on which was first).

Quote: That was back when they still had those floppy disks. The ones that were really flexable, not the diskettes that they just phased out a couple years ago. I'm talkin about the ancient, over 10 years out of date floppy disks.
Ah you mean those disks that were actually floppy!
Yeah I remember those, that's what Where in the World is Carmen SanDiego came on.
I wonder why they called disks that couldn't bend "Floppy"?

Not sure you are aware of this, but Floppy disks are bending very easily, you just have to crash the protection case to notice that. A Hard disk, on the other hand, is made of a real hard composite. So these denominations come from the disks themselves, not the cases they are assembled in.
