Rage08's Music Tavern

Hey HC... I figured I would finally make a thread to get some input on what you guy's think of my band.
there are three sites at the moment that you guys can check out:
www.purevolume.com/lacedbc
www.myspace.com/lacedbc
www.audiri.com/laced
We recorded these three original songs in my guitarists shed where we have some of our practises.
I'm also excited to mention that hopefully in the near future we will have some of our new songs up on the sites for everybody to check out.  Unfortunately, it does take time to finish new material, so we may be at it for a while.  If I can remember, I'll let everyone know when this happens, because I really do like to hear other people's input.
Oh and anybody else who's in a band or anybody else that just plain loves music can come and take a seat, have a cigar (I have any kind you like), and tell me your story...

"Gimme Someone": ***1/2
"Blue Skies": ****
"Breaking Away": ****1/2

I really enjoyed your songs; particularly "Breaking Away". There are some nice vocals in the chorus. I also like the piano arrangement in "Blue Skies". Your band has good potential, from what I hear.  Will you guys put the above songs onto an EP or did you already do that?

I'm also wondering if you could critique some of my songs in the future. That would be cool, since I've got a small band myself. We currently do a whole lot of covers from groups like Creed, Green Day, Phantom Planet, R.E.M., as well as some of my own songs. We're not too active, however, since it's hard to find time to play together.

I play guitar, and my favorite guitarists include Peter Buck, Chris Cheney, Eric Clapton, Roger McGuinn, Paul Simon, and Jason Wade. I'm also experimenting with keyboards, so that is interesting. First and foremost, R.E.M. is my favorite group (I listen to and remain influenced by their songs almost all the time).

Who are your musical influences?

My musical influences include Styx, Pink Floyd, The Eagles, and a mix of a lot of other classic rock music that is generally easy listening or psychedelic...

Cool. I haven't gotten very far as a songwriter, but I hope to improve in the next few years. I mostly write love songs, lonely songs, and religious songs. I'm also experimenting with New Age on the keyboard.

Hey that's very cool Guitarguy...
I actually have a habit of writing too many love songs that I have to change them or get rid of the worst ones... cause I know trying to play a rock show with all love songs could really give you a bad appearance... but generally speaking I don't care if people think love songs are lame or not, because they often mean a lot to me...
I also write lonely songs, haven't written any religious as of yet, and I love to write psychedelic songs with trippy sessions and epic lyrics...

I've never written a psychedelic song before. Most of my songs are slow and sedate for basically two reasons. First, I'm a baritone, so my vocal range doesn't allow me to sing very fast or high without sounding off-key. Second, I never really learned and worked with the tempos (i.e. 4/4). I just play whatever, unable to imagine what it'd sound like if I had drums accompanying me. I also need more practice playing in a group. Throughout my first few years of learning guitar, I could only play solo and lacked training in keeping up with other musicians.

I'm listening to "Losing My Religion". I wonder how many alternative radio stations realize that one of the main instruments in this song is a mandolin.

I'd like to get a mandolin in the future so I can learn how to play it.
